3. 2010 sophomore Garrett Gilbert/freshman Case McCoy (3 points)
4. 2017 sophomore Shane Buechele/freshman Sam Ehlinger (2 points)
wha starts here hasn't changed the world in a long time in the world of sports.Therein lies the problem at UT, Texas should always be without reproach. And we should be able to win championships too! What starts here should change the world!
1. 2020: senior Cade Brewer/sophomore Jared Wiley/sophomore Malcolm Epps (5 points)
Gilbert was on a lot of pre-season All-Big 12 lists that year (much like Ratler this year for OU).No way is '17 behind '10 at QB.
1. 2013: junior Malcolm Brown/sophomore Jonathan Gray/junior Joe Bergeron (5 points)
2. 2020: junior Keaontay Ingram/sophomore Roschon Johnson/freshman Bijan Robinson (4 points)
... Third-year offensive lineman Reese Moore is entering his third season on the 40 Acres and doesn't really seem to be on the verge of cracking a dent on the two-deep in 2020. I'm not sure that's a surprise, given his position, profile and the jump he's making in competition, but if the light switch doesn't start to flip on in the 2021 off-season, it's going to start feeling like he might have been a lottery ticket that's not going to be cashed in.
(Sell) Not ahead of Casey Thompson IMO, not unless the Longhorns want a problem.
Two decades have passed since the Luke Axtell/alleged late night phone calls fiascos took place. Surely, that's enough time.
This year's group didn't have more hype and expectations than Brown and Gray had coming off the 2012 season when the trio returning had nearly 2000 yards of offense and 25 touchdowns combined.Personally I would flip the 2.
No doubt.Yep. There was a lot of hope but thru this point we don't even hear about. I mean, there is patience, and then there is being completely unspoken about this far in.
Thanks for the kind words. Glad folks liked it.Wow! Can't decide if you're getting dumber or I'm getting smarter @Ketchum but I agreed with all your yearly rankings. When I had doubt, your Quickie Thoughts were spot on.
I'm still thinking about Penders. I loved me some Luke Axtell.
Gilbert's first impression will always be my first thought of him though. His first game in college it seemed that 90% of his passes were at the receivers shoe laces but I didn't see him in high school so can't disagree with you.
Great column. One of your best.
Thanks
Yet, what started under Penders did change the world around here.
d. I love how you think I'm giving OU too much credit. How many Big 12 titles in a row have they won?
Of all things in the world that we can do,. I'm not sure giving them too much credit is one of them.Meh. Only 5. No big deal. Let them win 6 in a row then perhaps we can talk.
a. Penders was involved in the release of a player's grades to the media in an effort to sully the kid's rep.
b. There were allegations that Penders used to call players late at night when he'd had a few.
Honestly, my memory of some of the details isn't as sharp as it used to be.In addition to releasing the grades, wasn't it false info. Stating the grades were worse than they really were. Maybe that was a false rumor?
Can't both be done?FWIW, nothing against Penders, but I'd rather celebrate the induction of DJ Augustin into the Hall of Honor.

Or Jamaal Charles. Neither has been shunned from the school for the last two decades.Sure. But you didn't write about Augustin.
Mostly disappointing over thew years, but always worth a watch.Chico told me some zingers about Penders. Hilarious. Good to see him getting the positive recognition he deserves....Runnin’ Horns...those were some fun times.
Or Jamaal Charles. Neither has been shunned from the school for the last two decades.
One if just a slightly more notable event than the other IMO based on the very breaking of federal laws you're discussing.Well, last I checked neither were involved in the possible violation of federal law putting the school in a pickle. If there's a reason either Augustin or Charles should have been shunned then I'm all eyes.
Not even a little.2013 RBs over 2020 RBs is insane.
That's the scary part.2010 team finished 5-7
2013 team finished 8-5
2015 team finished 5-7
2017 team finished 7-6
For the sake of Longhorn fans, there will be no comparing the results of this 2020 team to those previous squads.
Who cares that they were 5 stars in HS? Neither of them showed up looking like 5 stars. Double who cares to the 2nd team all-conference votes. Not even a little.
Again, you had two five stars and another back combining for more than 2,000 yards and 25 touchdowns from a pretty decent 2012 team.
Gray was a pre-season second-team All-Big 12 selection. No back on the current team can claim that,
Honestly, my memory of some of the details isn't as sharp as it used to be.
Here's a look at the lawsuit between Penders and Oran.

Here's one on what happened.

when it comes to the perception that we had of the backs in real time before the 2013 season, it matters a lot.Who cares that they were 5 stars in HS? Neither of them showed up looking like 5 stars. Double who cares to the 2nd team all-conference votes.
2020 has two guys who averaged over 5.3 ypc, both of whom looked better than any of the 2012 backs, and adds the best HS RB in the country.
