Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (Nostraketchus time)

I'm honestly surprised that Starr and the Baylor administration would dishonor themselves and the school to that extent. If what ESPN and you are reporting is 50% correct, he should be disqualified from being the president of a university, and he alumni ought to lead the charge.

Ok, we'll see if about 5 years. I'm sure we'll both remember this convo.

Keep in mind, and this has nothing to do with my opinion, when it comes to hoops blue bloods, I would say there are probably no more than 5 out there. And probably being a bit generous. But I think one can certainly argue Duke, UNC, KU and UK. I'm not one that tends to lean UCLA because unlike a lot of folks, I don't think what ended 40 years ago (10 titles in 11 years) has anything truly to do with a program's standing currently particularly when said they've only won one more title in the last 40 years and that one came over 20 years ago. But that being said, of the those 5, Shaka's already said "no" to UCLA. Rest assured when he retires Coach K isn't going to name someone NOT from his coaching tree as his successor. And yes, rest assured the person who will make that call will be Coach K. UNC isn't going outside the Dean Smith family either. That leaves UK. One black HC is probably enough for that fanbase. In other words, I feel like I'm playing with a made hand of Aces over Kings.

Huge tennis fan for 50+ years. If he stays healthy, and he has to-date, Djok will be considered the best, because he will have 20+ major wins. Just the way things are trending.

So how do you believe Briles is addressing the show on the rapes to recruits? Or do they even mention it?

How do, and should other schools use it with recruits? No one seems to think it will matter with Baylor recruits this signing day.

Also, Ol Miss doesn't seem to be affected by the cheating with it's recruiting class.

Well, keep in mind I mentioned that it would only happen if it was one of those monster programs. Texas is a destination job, but it's not one of THE destination jobs.

Same way Ali is the GOAT but got owned by Larry Holmes and others.

Ali was 38 years old and had not fought in 2 years when he lost to Holmes. He was 39 and out of the ring for over a year when he lost to Berbick in his final fight. So no, it really isn't the same thing.

Haha - Since when do you "dazzle with words?" More like an insurferable tendency to overuse trite expressions and repeet yourself to 10,000 words.

Neither did I. I had no idea it was even on. Never saw anybody talking about it

Don't fall victim to the mentality that somehow Texas isn't amongst the premier jobs in college hoops. A lot of OBers have that mentality. When push came to shove 10 months ago, we had our pick of our top 2 choices both of whom were arguably the 2 hottest names amongst risers in the biz. UCLA didn't do that. UF didn't do that. TEXAS did that. Right now Texas is pretty much a top 10 job easily when you factor in pretty much all the real sh*t that matters with a job and what it takes to win. When Shaka's done it'll likely be a top 5 job.

Ding. Ding. Ding.

Not really naive if you are paying attention. I'm essentially saying it's the same thing as David Shaw. Shaw is NEVER going to leave Stanford for a "blue blood." Hell, I said that includes Texas when it was obvious we were headed for a coaching change prior to the '13 season. Shaka's already said "no thanks" to UCLA. There's been pretty strong word out there that before he ever came under consideration for Texas that Texas was a job he very much coveted. I doubt seriously Shaka has much desire to try to "live up" to a predecessor's standard at a blue blood when he can make HIS own standard some place. He's not going to ANY other college job if he is tearing it up at Texas. And I don't see him at all as an NBA guy.

Agree. I think Shaka knew from day one that he could make an imprint in Austin that will last for generations.

Fair enough. How on earth do they have the players?

A golden generation. Players like Sigurdsson (of Swansea and formerly of Tottenham) and Sigporsson (of Ajax) are probably among the best players they've ever had in their history. And that's with us taking Aron Johansson, who would've been their best striker, from them thanks to dual nationality rules. Their coach, Lars Lagerback, has to claim a lot of the credit as well, they're outplaying the sum of their parts at the moment. It's certainly a surprise they're doing so well, but

Ok, if you say so, but I don't know how a guy can be the GOAT when he was owned by one of his peers when the guy was healthy.

Of course he was only owned by Nadal because they played so frequently on clay and so seldom on grass. If not for Nadal, Federer would likely be ranked only behind Borg in French Open championships in the modern era. Without Federer however, Nadal would still not be considered one of the great grass court players.

I heard Richard Sherman RKO'd Clay Matthews.

It's not Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina or Duke.

Kansas State owned Texas in the 2000's. Would you say that Kansas State was a better football team than Texas during that stretch?

so glad I asked. That's pretty wild.

Pretty awesome class if that is the way it pans out. If we get Fowler, DJack & JM, how sick of back-to-back LB classes do we have? Obviously Boyd is no afterthought, but dayam! LBU...

One of two things happen for Shaka - he either becomes the gold standard of college basketball coaches (the next coach K, Izzo, etc.) or he eventually lands a big time NBA gig. My guess is the former. NBA coaches are generally much different on the sideline than Shaka is...and I LOVE him for it. He is pounding the floor constantly and having so much fun. That is what the game is about. If only, we could get the fans to start attending somewhere in the vicinity of the big time programs. This is where the AD needs to find a way to make it happen. Shaka is bringing a great product, just need the full on fan support.

I'm hoping that when we start being ranked highly again and/or have some nice Tourney runs that the fans will come out. So far, I've been to three really exciting home games and our crowd is absolutely putrid. We won two of those games — UTA and Iowa State — in thrilling overtime fashion and fans were still sitting. GET UP and make some noise!

The medical school construction sure doesn't help, either, but I'm not complaining. That will be a hell of facility.

*end rant*

This was really a 'Kool' write up....enjoyed hearing those songs again.

Baylor needs to tear everything down and start over. I'm 100% serious. They should be kicked out of the Big 12. I find it sickening that a school like Texas must be associated with such scum through conference affiliation. Baylor makes all the bag men and snake-oil SEC-types of the world look like saints. It's enough to make your blood boil, and if it doesn't, something isn't right with you IMO.

It's not Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina or Duke.

But unlike the other 3, Duke has never been a blue blood under any coach not named Coach K. And I stand by my statement that Shaka wouldn't leave big success at Texas for ANY of those 4. Roy only left KU because he was called home by Dean.

Great Kool & The Gang list. I'd personally replace Cherish, Mislead, or Joanna with Take My Heart (You Can Have It If You Want It) -- gotta be one of the smoothest, sexiest songs to ever grace the airwaves. If baby making had a theme song "it goes something like this; 'hoooohh hooh oooh'"

I'm 25 though so childhood nostalgia, unfortunately (for me), doesn't factor into my inclusion (or disclusion) of the above mentioned tracks. From one Kool fan to another, thanks for the soundtrack to get me through Wednesday

Yeah, but that's only because he was at Kansas.
