Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (Please, Sterlin Gilbert, change my sadist ways)

"… If Locksley was to move from quarterback to receiver, I think he’d emerge as a starter by the time the season opener arrives. This isn’t me hyping up the guy no one has seen play, this is my hyping up a guy that almost every national power in the country wanted in their program as a wide receiver."

Your reasoning seem pretty shoddy to me. Locksley was a 4 star recruit, as was Jake Oliver, for example, who can't get on the field.

I am not in agreement with Ketch that'd he be starting or even the best, but in many combines and I believe it was the UA game, he was the best WR out there and absolutely tore it up!!

Jake Oliver isn't in the same stratosphere as Locksley, I don't care where they were ranked.
I didn't say he is, except in the rival's ratings (not mine). I just think it's crazy for you to say someone will be starting at a position that you've never seen play. Maybe you saw him play WR in a HS all-star game or a camp, I don't know. If not, I don't know what your opinion is based based on, if not hype. That doesn't mean he won't be a great WR - it just means I question the validity of your prediction right now.

Yes... yes, he did.

I've seen him play wide receiver.

BUY or SELL: Your job is on the line and You are going to go with the same QBs next year that almost got you fired THIS year?

(Sell) I think this is why Anwar Richardson has purchased 20,000 shares of Shane Buechele.

In this case, either word probably could easily apply.

If you can no longer keep the "S" & "M" straight, might be time to ask Zed for a little more free time out of the gimp crate. Just sayin'. :)

@Ketchum

You need to see "Beasts of No Nation."

Incredible movie about child soldiers in Africa. Should produce multiple nominations for best Movie, Director, leading and supporting Actor, Cinematography, etc.

I can be a sadist without the ball in mouth device, you sicko.:D

Definitely on my to-do-list.

A. That quote still holds.
B. Moving Kai to WR means that Strong will have 2 QB's sign in 3 years. He inherited a mess at the most important position on the field and has done virtually very little to improve it. Just thought I would be captain obvious for a second.
C. B is not the sole reason but one of the top reasons Strong will have a for sale sign in his yard in December.

Hey man, whatever you chose to do in the privacy of your secret basement-adjacent lair beneath your pawn shop is no business of mine. Whatever blows your ears back amigo. :)

The 2015 quarterback results featured a guy that the staff wasn't fully on board to offer and an athlete that most schools view as a long term NFL level wide receiver.

No one has ever said that about this column until just now.

I was referencing the Longhorn football segment portion. Think you might have been a little dismissive of the season outlook for Shaka's team without Cam. Playing without Holland, too, at the last minute against TCU didn't help. I think they'll play better. They have to. Also, glad to see you give the women's bb team some print. We have to beat Mulroy. She's has shown her ass to Karen & UT too many times.

While we're stating the obvious, your math sucks.

a. I think you're right. I was working under fairly trying circumstances this weekend. Hoped nobody would notice.
b. I wish I was being dismissive. It's a pretty meh group right now.
c. Mulroy is Darth Vader.

the thing about the Texans (IMO) as long as BOB is there, they aren't gonna overspend or overdraft a QB that isn't "their guy."

That said, I kinda think BOB will fall in love w/ a QB prospect through this draft process since he's under a little pressure... and HOU/Rick Smith (who should also be feeling pressure) will take one with their first pick in the early 20s. Just my initial hunch.

Get ready for the Hackenburg era Texans fan lol.

Are you referring to Merrick - the guy who Anwar struggled to give even a 1% chance of starting next year? Glad you saw the point in my post about Strong doing very little to address the QB situation in 3 classes. It is not a shot against Heard and Shane (both of whom can be really good in a year or two) but starring down the barrel of '16, we have major question marks at this position. Same situation as it was for the '14 & '15 seasons. Are you up to speed now?

He's taken 4 QBs in 3 years. If you wanna call that 3, then fine, but averaging out to 1 QB a class is pretty standard protocol. Quality JUCO QBs are a thing of legend. There's a reason they're playing JUCO, and spare me any Cam Newton references. You don't build depth by loading up on scab JUCOs who can't play. If a grad transfer happens to fall in your lap, then great but that's like trying to make a living at the craps table.

Should we ever fix the offensive identity crisis we've endured the past 2 years (which is a far bigger black eye on Charlie than how he's gone about addressing the QB position), then the QB spot will work itself out. Until that is solved though, it matters not who we throw out under center, whether it be Jerrod, Tyrone, some JUCO, or whoever else.

#2: Until Foreman proves he can catch a cold, the best three WR combo for next year would be Burt, Locksley and Johnson...

#4: You have it reversed: things are going to get tougher for Baylor and the rest of the Big XII women's teams because coach Aston and her Lady Horns are deep and angry and back to mid 1980's style...

#7: From a long suffering Chiefs fan perspective, the game Saturday was a thing of beauty. Don't care if anyone else thinks Picasso painted it - 11 NFL wins in a row is gorgeous...
Regarding #4 - I am hoping the Erwin Center will be packed nex

No one ever questions his work ethic.
And it got him nowhere so he expressed the ultimate lack of commitment. He created another option with his academic success. Foreman, Bernard, Oliver...may not be as gifted in the classroom and feel stuck. Hopefully , we will see a rejuvenation with Gilbert.

Also have been on the KAREN Aston and Lady Longhorns bandwagon for a long time. Thanks to @Ketchum for increasing the coverage of this team on a weekly basis. I always hold my breath afterwards and pray that it doesn't jinks the team. We are on the road at Kansas on Wednesday night and cannot skip past that game and focus totally on Baylor. Any team in the entire Big 12 can sneak up on you and bite you in the butt (note OSU beat Baylor a week ago). That being said, "Darth Vader Mulkey" and her evil crew will appear in Austin next weekend and it would be awesome for our team if we fill the drum with orange supporters. I have done the reverse trip to WACO and the Lady Bears fill with green up to the rafters. Time to start doing the same for Aston's team!

Debating the math is childish but read my original post - the comment was predicated on Ketch's dialogue around Kai potentially moving to WR. I agree with most of your commentary but the one edit I would make is that given the uncertainty of the QB's in the fold for each upcoming season ('14-16) I believe Strong should have moved heaven and earth to get a JUCO and/or grad transfer. I would rather take a swing and miss than not take a swing at all when you need to reach base. It has been well documented that Strong and company moved very slowly on a few guys that could have been viable options only to see pedestrian results the following year from the QB's.

As alluded to in my first post, the inability to address the QB situation correctly is just one reason for Strong's demise. Another big reason is exactly what you said - offensive identity crisis. As we all know, the list goes much deeper than those two Strong failures.

BUY or SELL: Coach Charlie Strong will break his long silence regarding his recruiting critics when he announces a top-12 class on signing day?

My thought is that on this board Coach Strong has been criticized for not being pro-active so to speak regarding recruiting. He waits too long to contact outstanding players, or doesn't contact them at all. It has been said by some posters that this coach or that coach is a non-contributor to recruiting, etc.
Perhaps come signed day, he reels in a really great class, and then uses that opportunity to tell everyone that he knows exactly what he is doing and all the doubters can just - politely - shut up.

If I win Powerball, "I'm rich biaach" will be the name of my new column - that I'll post occasionally to the internet from by beach home in another country.

There is nothing wrong with taking two QBs each year

I thought he had that moment a year ago.;)
