Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Sark Overload)

he didn't have enough time at Houston to get either enough experience or a true gauge of what his long term success would be. he got off to a hot start then dropped off a bit at Houston. he posted a 13-1 first year record which was perhaps a mirage now. he followed with 9-3, not a huge falling off but you wonder where he would have been after say 5 seasons? i think the fact that he upset ZerOU while at Houston weighed too much on Texas as a reason to hire him.

similar with Strong, certainly it took him a few seasons to turn UofL around after the train wreck of Steve Kragthorpe but he won big in a Group of 5 league. i don't think he would have sustained his success in the ACC.

Texas hiring Strong was bittersweet for me being a UofL grad. for UofL fans it was the same old story .. yet another Power 5 blue blood poaching our coach. that it was Texas was better than nothing i guess and while i obviously wanted Strong to succeed at Texas knowing he hadn't been tested in a league like the ACC was a concern.
There were huge sirens going off for both herman and strong in the first month in their first seasons.

I hope that's not the case this season.

we'll see in September. one good sign about Sark's personal issues is Saban. you know it came up at Alabama when he hired Sark and brought him back again. if the waterboy showed up at practice with beer on his breath Saban would fire him.

it might be even more important than Saban's faith in Sark's football ability that he had faith in Sark getting his personal issues under control.

Ketch hang in there...I know the Herman bff didn't pan out and you're maybe a little behind on the Sarkasian date list, but there's always reuniting with Eric Bieniemy.
