Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (The. Cold. Hard. Truth.)

Rick Pitino is our Urban Meyer of Basketball but probably more obtainable

Go get him!

Back in 89 I was flying to Vegas for Spring Break. I was sitting in first class and pounding drinks from the start. Rick Pitino was sitting next to me.

Pitino: I’m guessing you are on Spring Break.
Me: How did you know?

Anyway really nice guy. He was the coach
of the New York Knicks at the time and we talked basketball and other things while putting up with me continuing to have drinks.

No one wants to admit it, but there is a critical similarity in Maalik Murphy and former Texas quarterback Tyrone Swoopes that cannot be ignored - both lack the kind of quality game reps in volume that you;'d prefer in a quarterback prospect at the same stage of their junior seasons.

I said that the first time I saw him and you disagreed. Glad to see you are coming around.

How could Shaka, with it all on the line, be so content to just sit back and accept that they are happy to be in a close game with ACU and hope to win it at the end by a bucket or two? Why didn’t he try pulling Ramey for GB3 or Donovan Williams. Yeah they would turn it over but the guards did that anyway. We desperately needed scoring and defensive rebounding. GB3 looked good on his first and only shot. I have to think he would’ve at least been able to prevent some of ACU’s offensive rebounding and putbacks. We managed to keep ACU from scoring with Donovan Williams in the game for a stretch only to see him never return. Shaka didn’t seem to even try to use our height and length advantage. He had zero answers and it was all on full display. Devastating.
He had been really good in previous games, but his man management was very questionable to say the least.

Your bias still comes through when talking about Shaka. You dismiss the golden path he had to win the Big 12 Tourney (not only he didn't have to play Baylor and missed having tp play a third game against Kansas but got to play a tired OSU team in the final) but yet you think Covid is worth listing as a bad break for him and influenced his success, when every other fvcking team in the conference and country had to deal with it. As much as you try to hide your spots, we still see 'em. Sorry.
I don't dismiss the easier path. I just didn't render it useless because of it.

I don't talk in the kind of absolutes that some of you desire. That will never change. The world is more gray than black and white.

For a bad sequel selection, I nominate Texasville, an awful sequel to The Last Picture Show. I have very uncomfortable memories that are admittedly personal.

When my dad retired, he bought a ranch outside of Archer City. Like a lot of west Texas, the people are great but the scenery lacks something. Anyway, back to the point, my dad had a few bit, non-speaking parts in Texasville, so I was required to watch it with him. Other people were allowed to walk out in the middle, but, oh no, I had to sit there and watch the whole thing. I’m not suggesting anybody watch it because it’s so bad, just that it at least get an honorable mention in your list.

That’s awesome
Sounds like a down to earth easy going guy :)

He has to learn how to tackle. It's weird to have to say that about a 4th year SR, but it's true. He has had too many complete whiffs on players in his career, for me to say that I'm genuinely excited about him, today. And I used to be the biggest BJ Foster fan.
I feel you.

The Monster has already been created. PSG vs Bayern Munich. If they're in different brackets, they're probably playing for the championship again. That side of the bracket is insane.
You think City is the No.3 team there?

Wow. What a pathetic response to an error. Just say "correct" and move on. Instead of the Bill Clinton "it depends on what the definition of "is" is" response. SMDH. I fully expect you to deflect this as well, and say you were just having fun by winking.
It was a tongue in cheek response. Honestly, get over yourself.

d. Is B.J. Foster still a player that fans have hopes for? What exactly is the hope at this point? Personally, I'll never stop believing there's a difference-maker inside of that player, but it's been a long time since we've seen it.

I'm with you on this. Have a feeling B.J. is gonna redeem himself and thrive under the new system/staff. Lot of once good players lost their way in Herman's secondary. Kwit has a great resume with DB production.

1) Good thoughts on Shaka that I happen to agree with, though others won’t.
2) 7v 7 touch football is one thing, 11 v 11 tackle football is another. Players can look completely different when bullets start flying. Murphy has shown some great raw potential in the touch variety. We will see how he develops in the other. He has the advantage of having an experienced QB developer at Texas.
Sark loves him for a reason.

Last 25 years is an interesting time frame to use. Lol. It includes six from Shaka and last 6 of Barnes. In other words nearly half of that 25 is 6 from our worst coach in 35 years, and the worst 6 from Barnes. Lol
"lol"

For your consideration of worst sequel, allow me to submit “Anchorman 2.” Loved the first one, walked out midway through the second one.
It received consideration, believe me.

Man, I forgot that Caddyshack had a sequel. It was a piece o’ crap if I remember correctly.
I am really surprised that you think they Shaka will be fired. I assumed he was safe even though firing is totally warranted.
Not safe. Not at all.

I missed the full story on Oshown's shoulder. Was this an injury from last year that was just recently discovered? Or did he hurt it working out?
I haven't heard the full details, but there's no way it was from last year. They wouldn't purposefully hold that up.

The thing with Pierce is he at least has 1 CWS appearance here even if it was short lived. He’s only had 3 full seasons.

Texas was 14-3 prior the pandemic shutdown last season. Texas basketball was on bubble.
totally understand.

Question still exists.

@Ketchum, really good TTFTW. Do you think that Lincoln's inclination to throw down smack has anything to do with smack talk that recruits may be hearing, such as Sarkisian being a better offensive coach than him and has proved it by Alabama riding his offense to a national title?
I think he Tweeted because he felt he needed to.

Never swing down, Lincoln.
