Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (The. Cold. Hard. Truth.)

Have you ever seen an elite QB at the college level who has looked as bad as Maalik has when they were Juniors? Generally speaking, division 1 QBs dominate in high school and make the game look easy...
In wouldn't frame him as looking bad. That's not fair.

Come on man, you can’t block out Tommy Gunn.

Hell, I can't!

All I am saying is that you are kind of making excuses for Shaka stating he is a victim of a half court shot, Covid and a player dealing with leukemia.
I mean all that stuff happened. Sometimes an excuse is nothing more than the reason something happens.

Your bias still comes through when talking about Shaka. You dismiss the golden path he had to win the Big 12 Tourney (not only he didn't have to play Baylor and missed having tp play a third game against Kansas but got to play a tired OSU team in the final) but yet you think Covid is worth listing as a bad break for him and influenced his success, when every other fvcking team in the conference and country had to deal with it. As much as you try to hide your spots, we still see 'em. Sorry.

Other teams have dealt with #19 , injuries, tragic illnesses even those with gloom & doom consequences ...

It is the real world which some of us on this board live and survive in and is apparently one which Coach Smart cannot adapt to ...

He needs to go and that needs to occur right soon !!!

Coupled with that the “ain’t awful crowd” needs to place Tabasco on their respective thumbs and cover / support those UT M&W sports which are still competing!!!

I don't really see many people defending his continued employment.

Agreed. The debate is all about whether or not there are mitigating circumstances. There always are, but not enough to offset what we've seen for the last 6 years.

Also, good job avoiding the false dichotomy where you are either a hater or apologist for Shaka. I for one like him -he seems like a genuinely nice guy and I wish him the best wherever he ends up. But his tenure here has been a disaster and he needs to be terminated. These are not mutually exclusive viewpoints

I can appreciate the change of perspective then and yes he is nice guy as many suggest but that is not what he is being compensated for...

The precarious balance of winning, ethically while requiring the student athletes in his charge to also be students is his primary cause for compensation...

What he does at another program has ZERO bearing with the program here. He was paid to win at Texas, not at Virginia Commonwealth.

Maybe if we just tell Ketch that Shaka was a damn good coach for 3 weeks back in 2011, he will give it up? Maybe!?!

Ketch,

While spring has hopes high, I'm more interested when the Arlington LB, Morice Blackwell, gets here and shows Kwiatkowski what he can do and how he attacks the ball carrier. This kid may be the sleeper of the incoming class.

Hook'em!

100-percent agreed.

Love this random shout! He'll get his chance.

Great piece. It’s becoming more and more exhausting to support our teams not to mention expensive. If we were all honest with ourselves, most of us knew it was highly probable we’d lose. Sadly it’s what we’ve become accustomed to and that hurts more than the losses. Feel like I’m taking the bait with baseball now. Should expect a gut punch sometime in late May.
This.
I really have a hard time when we know that the player talent is there and the coaches coach down. It's bizarre and inexplicable to me. I could tolerate things better if we just didn't have the talent and we coached the players as good as we could (see ACU).

Wow. What a pathetic response to an error. Just say "correct" and move on. Instead of the Bill Clinton "it depends on what the definition of "is" is" response. SMDH. I fully expect you to deflect this as well, and say you were just having fun by winking.
Show us on the doll where the bad man hurt you!

Isn't what he described what sports is all about.

I'm a Cowboys, Sixers and Phillies fan. The last decade for all of those teams isn't any better than Texas football.

At Texas. I am a Texas fan. I honestly don't care what he did a day before Texas. Same with Tom Herman.
I think he's been good, but "good" isn't what he was hired to be. He was hired to be damn good AT Texas, which hasn't happened.

With respect to his NCAA Tourney record a win last Saturday would have been big or at least a larger departure from his first two losses !!!!
No question. It's part of what made Saturday so pad. Everyone was hungry and would have settled for a damn cracker.

Point taken - but we have made what I thought were solid attempts to improve our position and have had staggering failure.
