Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (The three things Texas needs from Shane Buechele..)

How many sources does one need to know Elliott/Jones will be a massive upgrade over Haines/Hall. I'm sure it's cute to say light bulbs have come on, but the simple reality is that Jones/Elliott are simply a far superior athletic playmaking duo. Said before but worth saying again, they will be our best safety duo since '05.

"The defense has won all three scrimmages by significant margins."
FALSE. I think it was the second scrimmage in which the Herman was convinced the offense had it in the bag and the defense came back to win it on the last play. I'm hopeful, though, we will have a great defense. As you said, In Orlando I Trust.

That's great news about Burt, he was our best WR his freshman year and like Vahe, Hill, Davis and Jefferson he had sophomore slump. He's taken more shit from posters on this board than any of the Soph's simply because his mistakes are most obvious to the casual observer. Kid can fly, just a step behind Duvernay but with hurdler athleticism.

Here's to redemption

Only 2 of the top 10 players from offense? Conner and Collin.

When the end of the season comes, that will change, and Shane Buchele will be in the top 5.
Hope you are right,he needs to lead this team to victory.

* There will be packages that involve Jerrod Heard at quarterback.

I get tired of reading about light switches. Football has nothing to do with light switches. It is a relatively straight forward game. You play it at a high level by doing what your position coach tells you to do. No light switches involved.

* The defense has won all three scrimmages by significant margins. When Herman says he believes Texas is going to win games with defense, he's basing this on what he's seeing in practice.

I thought I heard Coach Herman tell a story about the 2nd scrimmage where the offense was ahead enough at the end that he turned to another coach and told him it was over. Then the defense made some plays to get enough points to come from behind and win.

That didn't seem like a "significant" margin by the sound of it.

I was about to post this exact thing. I hate it when authors make shit up to fit their story.

Ghirmai brings down our average commit rating, we pass him over to UCLA right? Gotta keep our 2nd place ranking ;)
Has a chance to be a four--star player by February. He's a guy that the Rivals people have seen a lot of.

Yeah, I found this puzzling as well. I don't see him as a NFL guy and if he's successful here he's a shoe-in to coach at Texas for a decade or more.
It was just a tongue-in-cheek response.

I wanted to see this last year. I would've played alot wildcat with Heard instead of the 18 wheeler stuff with Swoopes,

I'm looking forward to seeing what they do there.

Question ...Herman sounds like he wants bad dynamic threat at QB. Yet I'm not entirely sold that the qbs he is recruiting outside of 2019 Roschon Johnson are as dynamic as a Braxton miller or Vince young. Don't get me wrong they are capable but they are no miller or young outside of Johnson.
Casey Thompson?

Bold Prediction that I'll probably get wrong?!?! And then state the obvious - only 2 O players on a top ten list at this point. I'm fairly sure that prediction is neither bold nor wrong.
Forgive me, for I have sinned.

That would be a great way to get to 10 wins.

Calling my shot.;)
Regarding Garrett, I'll meet you halfway with your obvious opinion that you don't think he's a great coach and I agree to a certain extent that he's not a great gameday manager and his teams still commit way too many penalties, but I will say that I believe he and his staff have done a much better job the last several seasons in making adjustments when I thought he was really poor at them his first 3+ seasons or so.

Additionally, to his credit, he gets his team to play hard nearly every game. In the 2000's with Campo, Parcells and Phillips - much like we've seen with Texas since 2010 - the Cowboys often didn't even show up to play. That's not been the case with Garrett. His team plays and competes game in and game out. I think he's really grown as a coach.

Do I wish he go all Pop or Jimmy Johnson on the team and blast them on occasion for their dumb mistakes? Yes. But, he's more in line with modern coaches these days who don't. And to be clear he's not the coach or presence that Pop or JJ are/were.

He's not great, but he's definitely better than he was 2-3 seasons ago imo.

The defense has controlled matters, by and large, although we can quibble over the phrasing for sport if you want. One side has been better than the other the entire camp.

Interesting Ketch would say the defense soundly whipped the offense in all three games when we know the second scrimmage was a tie and the defense won with a one play goal line stand.
Maybe I should clarify... the first team defense has significantly controlled almost every practice affair and scrimmage.

The second string offense had success that day against the second-team defense. Let's not get too carried away by what the score keeping of a scrimmage is.

I should have clarified better.

Remember though, Herman himself mentioned just a week ago or so that his Offense at Houston had constant trouble moving the ball vs Orlando's Defense in practices and they were a top 25 offense in actual games regardless.

Hopefully this portends to good/great things both ways.

That didn't happen.

That point was a mere snippet in the article and it could have been better worded. No need to make shit up i an effort to claim I'm making shit up to fit a narrative that doesn't exist within the framework of the column.

Stop going out of your way to be rude in every exchange you have with me on this board.

no doubt.

@Ketchum
Two questions:

1) Is the Jerrod Heard QB packages an attempt to RS Sam? We've been hearing all along that Sam would have the packages. Will they both?

2) Why is there little discussion on the TE position? Is Kendall Moore a lock or are the 2 freshmen contending for starter?

I clarified the remark about the defense in the scrimmages.
