Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (This is who Bob Stoops is...)

I know it's an odd notion, but I do have a company to run. I don't spend all of my time studying OU football.

Since you have done the homework, who made the quote you posted. It's obviously not from the Oklahoman. Who is quoted is relevant to any response
The Oklahoman.

I retract most of my post. I was thinking we should be looking at a Power 5 DC somewhere, someone with more experience in a big conference, but then I pulled the defensive team stats for this year and there was Houston in the Top 12 of scoring defense. Now, would I have liked to find someone from the Big 10 or SEC who was already a DC... maybe, but I'll admit that I wasn't giving Orlando as much credit as he deserved.

As for the other Herman hires, it seemed like the recurring theme was "blah, blah, blah, tons of upside/potential/ceiling, could be great" but very few Power 5 conference skins on the wall. Maybe I just had my hopes up that we'd be stealing more established guys.

Lastly, I'll admit I was really hoping for a 5 star home run from Little or a Kyle Allen was following Herman. Maybe my expectations were out of whack.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's done ANYTHING wrong, but I was hoping to steal some headlines and I don't think we've done that at all yet.
This staff absolutely lacks power five skins. It doesn't have a single coach other than Oscar Giles with even one.

The Oklahoman.

OK, I see now. It was Jenni Carlson. I like her style as a writer. Her opinion is worth considering.

I have part three ready. It's a bit more provocative, maybe even slightly adversarial, but not bad. Yea or nay, it's your board, your call. I bothered to write it, so obviously I planned on posting it.

Hell I'd like to read it. Post it. If Ketch wants to take it down he can.

That's probably all the encouragement I need. I'm not looking to get banned. I might want to talk politics or something from time to time.

So, why can't I find this thread anymore in the sticky topics. Help me out. I'm an old

Post it. I'm curious. In OKC with my inlaws whom are OU fans. I'm curious if blindly defended Bob for his "selective" 2nd chances (let's be honest he wouldn't make those sacrifices for crappy players) is more or less admirable than defended the victims. The victims do have to watch these thugs get second chances and eventually maybe make millions. While the fans justify their behaviors at all costs.

OU just has lowered the bar to win more than other programs. And, somehow done it more successfully than others because the community continues to think it can beat the system and get by with one more talented player that should have consequences for their actions.

I would argue that enabling these guys and giving them such a huge opportunity to earn millions is not a social success. But, ultimately teaches them that they can get away with such egregious acts and do it again. Sure there will be an occasional success. But, I would contend Mixon didn't learn from his behavior...he learned that he can get away with almost killing a girl and play a sport that he loves and have the community make excuses and justifications for his behaviors. After all, after tearing up a ticket and throwing at an offficer he still got a slap on the wrist.

I'm serious, I can't find this thread anymore. I don't know how to get to it.

As far as posting my part 3 even if someone told me how to find this thread, I'm sorta giving up the ghost. I only posted the "offending" player specifics because Ketch instructed me it was OK to do. Now there are folks saying they don't want the voice of outsider, that this is a community of longhorns. I think that is valid point. Like I said, I'm a guest and a proper guest is respectful of the wishes of the host even if those wishes are implied.

I started this a reasoned defense of a fundamental well intentioned coach/guy. In part it was a defense of a bye gone era where good judgement was still possible. I can easily depart my opinions because I've wanted Stoops out for 5 years, just not for the reasons you guys want him gone.

Long story. I'm not sure I can articulate my real objection. If I have time, I might try.
