Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (Tom Herman made my ears perk on Saturday...)

Ketch, Mods or anyone in the know,

From the end of the spring game to the start of fall camp what kind of access does Coach McKnight and the asst strength coaches have with the team? Is it back to a hardcore offseason 5:00AM workout kinda thing?
yes, but usually after finals.

i agree, but can't believe you actually stated that as it's admitting buechele is the better qb. he wanted everyone to see the best he could in their first and only view, therefore he put his best option at qb. if he thought ehlinger was the better option why wouldn't he start and play him exclusively against the twos? if he's the better of the two then that would've made more sense as it would've made his offense look that much better.. right?

This subject is too complex to discuss in zero sum terms.

01:00: First piece of music on the show is from Young the Giant, an artist that I’ve never come close to hearing of. Thanks LHN, way to make me feel ancient. Why do I have a feeling this won’t be the last time?

Seriously? They are a pretty talented band which has been around for the better part of the last decade. You should do a list of their songs like you do other bands.
We've seen them 4 times and were Friday Night headliners just last week in San Antonio's Maverick Festival.

Here are a few to get you started
Silver Tongue - latest hit

Cough Syrup - how can you have never heard this song.

My Body - probably biggest hit

Come on people...the question was referring to guys Ketch has seen play at Texas. Ketch did not see Jerry Gray play. Hence Ketch's response that Gray predates him. Is this that complicated?

Chill out brother. Actually his question was Jammer the best DB "you've seen play."
His pick was Earl. Love Thomas and Jammer, there have been so many great DB's over the years for the Horns. I and others were saying the best we've seen play is Jerry Gray.
It's all good.

Interesting. Was thinking about going to a show on their tour this fall, but your post probably put the kibosh on that. They're touring with Cold War Kids, who I thought sucked live.
Saw Cold War Kids two weeks ago and it took them half their set to get their sound right. They never really got the lead singers sound right. The band was excellent once they got the sound right. Not really a headliner type band imo because their catalog isn't there yet.

I thought his voice wasn't as good live. I really like their music though.

The staff didn't trust Buechele and the offense they called looked like it.
As if that staff knew what they were doing? They were collectively incompetent.

Texas went 3-7 in their last 10 games, and considering you said Shane played poorly in 7 of his last ten games, it reads like you're saying he's the reason they went 3-7 their last 10 games. I emphatically disagree, but I don't wish to argue this point any further. Its just banging drums at this point. It's in the past.

I did you think you made good point on the radio yesterday about how the varied tempo will serve SB much better than last years simple read ludicrous speed pace allowed him. Allowing Shane to go through his progressions should make for improved play, something he's already good at. Tom has said, sometimes they'll go fast, sometimes they won't, it depends on the game situation. Novel concept, I know.

As a Spurs fan, I concede Draymomd should win DPOY. He's earned it this year. Kawhi is not as good this year defensively, but he also has to shoulder the offensive load now. Green has Durant, Thompson and Curry surrounding him. It makes his role and job much easier. Regardless, he's a tremendous player. I bequeath him the award.

As you may recall, I've been one of those believing they could win 9-10 and be a contender for the big 12 title. I'm not saying they're going to win it, but the MOST IMPORTANT part of Herman's spring summary was the fact that he mentioned how surprised he was by the collective "Buy In" from the team. The want to is there from the players. These guys don't want to lose anymore. Obviously, a lot of work remains, but I think this team is motivated, and Tom and the staff are working to get them to play hard every single play combined with attention to detail and enhanced execution - things sorely lacking in the previous regime.

That's fair.

There were many reasons Texas went 5-7. Yes, he was one of them.

Other than Tim Duncan, we've never seen a better player in a Spurs uniform that Leonard.

That David Robinson guy was pretty good too. I didn't get to see much of the Admiral growing up (his prime years specifically) but he was an all time great.

If Kawhi can win a few more championships in the future, then he can probably overtake DR as the second greatest player in franchise history.

Robinson was amazing and saved basketball in that city.

Not saying his career is better, saying the level that he is at this season is slightly higher than David's best, and all the rest not named Duncan as well.

It's not a big deal. Just noteworthy to mention in an effort to include all context.

Context of what? The starting QB

I'm assuming you are using made up stats. That's the only explanation. But congrats to Kawhi for the following:

1. Having a career best PER that is equal to the 6th best of Robinson's career.
2. Having a career best WS that would be 8th best of Robinson's career.

Jerry pre-dates me.

I remember a game where the Horns were getting bull rushed by an inferior conference foe playing on pure adrenaline and the chance to beat UT in Austin. Our O was stagnating and the D was collapsing (sound familiar these days?). Jerry Gray baited the opponents QB into a throw near our goal line and stepped in front for a huge INT and return (no TD). He stopped the bleeding, rallied the troops, the opponents QB was tentative the rest of the game and we came back for the win. While all others were in retreat, one man stepped up and said "not today, not in our house and not on my watch".

Villa scored the best goal anyone will ever see. Ever.

Better than anything Messi or Ronaldo will ever hope to do.

Thought my computer had a glitch or something after seeing that last post.........

Thanks for the scare.

a.The context of the full discussion of Buechele's spring game performance.

b. Leonard this season: 25.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 3.8 ast, 1.8 steals, 0.7 blocks, 48.5/38.0/88.0

He's thiiiiiis close to essentially having the type of offensive season that Larry Bird and Kevin Durant have had in the their best seasons in terms of producing a 50/40/90 season. On top of that, he's the second best wing defender in the sport at worst on his best day in era that stresses that need more than any other on that side of the ball because of the ability to switch on pick and rolls, among other reasons.

Robinson's best season: 29.8 ppg, 10.7 rbg, 4.8 ast, 3.3 bpg, 1.7 spg, 50.7/34.5/74.9

Robinson's baseline numbers were bettter and he was just as dominant as a defensive player, albeit different. He was just more overall efficient as an offensive player when you peel back the numbers. They essentially shot the ball the same from the floor, but one played almost exclusively from 15-feet in and the other uses the entire floor.

It's veeeery close. I totally get thinking that Robinson has the edge. He also never carried that into the playoffs. Kawho has a chance to do that.

And ET put the team on his back at times in a national title run. He was future NFL HOF good that year.

In watching Texas football since 1994 or so,

My top 5 DB at Texas from 1994-2017

1. Earl Thomas
2. Michael Huff
3. Aaron Ross
4. Quentin Jammer
5. Aaron Williams

Bryant Westbrook, Terrell Brown, Cedric Griffen, Kenny Vacarro, Michael Griffin, Rod Babers are the next group off the top of my head.

Not trying to diss Earl Thomas, he was and still is fabulous ... just trying to give you some context as to why some of us old timers, with a longer term personal view into the program history, would put a guy like Jerry Gray in the discussion for the top spot.

I also think there was a leadership thing. Earl left after his sophomore season and was on a team with a lot of leaders. As I remember it, when Jerry was a Junior/Senior his role as a leader on and off the field was very high.

Oh, I know Gray was out of this world good.I just think we underrate the season that Thomas had in 2009.
