Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend

Fair enough. It wouldn’t be in my top 10 but is a great song. I’m always partial to Hey Jude because it was the number 1 song when I was born.
What's funny is that I did this list almost 10 years ago and when Rolling Stone did their list back in 2020, they wrote a lot of the same exact stuff that I did... just better.

BTW, the quote from Lennon calling the song a peak in the wake of you saying "virtually no one" else would agree with me was worth a chuckle. ;)

Oh, I agree. I obviously had not seen that! Too funny. Hope you and the family had a great Christmas.

After watching The Power of the Dog on Netflex, I thought I had watched a perfectly fine movie. I'm not sure if I'll ever watch it again.
Felt the same way. Def overhyped and I feel like it mostly has to do with Jane Campion directing... she's overrated, IMO.

I did like it a bit better after watching a few recaps and clarifications on the ending — it meant what I thought it did but good to get a little more context.

I really liked PT Anderson's Licorice Pizza... fun film with some fantastic cameos.

If The Power of the Dog is a 6, Licorice was about an 8.75 for me.

I need to get on the Licorice.

I thought Campion made a fine film, but it felt like it was trying to be There Will Be Blood and just didn't have as captivating of a story.

Got the same vibe on TWBB... and watched it again a few days ago.

It's still incredible and should have won best picture. No Country won that year, which was also amazing, but TWBB is one of a kind.

Fun fact: both films were shot in Marfa during overlapping timeframes and TWBB set No Country back an entire day of shooting bc they exploded an oil derrick and fumes lingered in the air for a full day.

Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead did the score for both TWBB and Licorice Pizza... couldn't be more different. He's uber-talented.

good stuff!

"I'll Follow The Sun" . It was my favorite song prior to leaving NJ to head for Austin and entering the University of Texas in January of 1966.

Unpopular opinion....the Beatles are overrated and their music doesn't carry forward as well as other top bands of their generation. Stones. Doors and Eagles all better.
Not only unpopular, wildly wrong. It is not just me saying that. The Beatles have always led Rolling Stone mag's list of 500 greatest songs. While their dominance has decreased over the years (they had 23 songs on the list in 2004) they still lead on the current (2021 list) with 12 songs, while The Stones are tied for second with Dylan and Bowie with 7. If the Eagles or Doors made the list at all, they are not in the running for most songs contributed.

I love the Stones and Eagles, big Jim Morrison fan, but, of the bands you mentioned, only the Stones are even in the same league with the Beatles. The Stones are great perfomers, but have a limited repertoire of hit songs they mostly wrote 50+ years ago. The Beatles output was prolific while it lasted, then Paul, John and George continued their genius output until the latter two died too soon.

The Doors might have made more and better music had Morrison not ODd. And had they gotten a bass player. Light My Fire is their only song that is still iconic imo.

Thanks for trying to help me in the midst of this Here Comes The Sun outrage!
Anyone claiming The Beatles are not the greatest is no help at all. They lead Rolling Stone mag's multiple list of greatest songs over the years by a wide margin.

Anyone who doubts should watch the current "Get Back" documentary. It will make you laugh, it is funny, but ultimately it will make you smile from ear to ear at their greatness, sometimes despite themselves.

I still need to watch. It's on my to-do-list.

No. 9 - Top 10 The Beatles ...

I'm sure no one will disagree with this undertaking.
Death, taxes and people disagreeing on a Beatles top-whatever list.

Hell, our fantasy football league had a several day back and forth just arguing "best Beatles song". It got out of hand as Beatles discussions tend to do.

While I would have Tomorrow Never Knows, Dear Prudence, Long and Winding Road all in my top-10 with Tomorrow Never Knows at least getting top overall consideration with A Day in the Life, I appreciate the work and breakdown that went into your list-making process.

I also appreciate Hey Jude's absence and Eleanor Rigby's inclusion.

I'll take it!

Of course, it can.

However, offensive linemen more times than not need time, development and a little bit of patience.

Banks might be able to play left tackle, but IF he can play tackle, the right side is probably where he's best served to play in his first year. Playing in the Big 12 is not the same as playing in high school. It remains to be seen whether he can quickly adapt, but he's not a big freaking failure if he's not ready to play the most difficult position in the sport for a big person just because Texas has a dire need.

These dire needs keep being problematic.
This reminds me of Tyron Smith who was a backup at Right Tackle for USC after being a 5* recruit in High School his Freshman year then started his Sophomore year at Right Tackle before moving to Left Tackle his Junior year.
He also started his rookie year with the Cowboys at Right Tackle.

It's very common.

Listen to a classic rock station and other than Hey Jude none of it is played. It is dusty old music which doesn't hold up.

Classic rock stations are littered with trash… is that really your argument? I’m all for opinion, but unless you say zeppelin or Beatles, then you’re wrong.

Totally ridiculous ! You need to change stations. Or just quit wasting your time listening to music since you are unable to recognize greatness when you hear it.

The Eagles and The Doors greater than The Beatles ! Glen Frey greater than Paul McCartney ? Don Henley greater than John Lennon ? Oh, brother !!!! Now I know for sure that you can see anything on Orangebloods.

Did you not say that the question about whether a prospect can successfully play tackle in college is not answered at the high school level?

I think it can, not based off of performance, but based on whether the prospect possesses translatable traits. The improvements in those traits that Banks has demonstrated this fall has pushed him into the rarified air of "three year and 1st round draft pick" level tackle prospects.
If Banks is as good as Connor Williams was as a Fr, he play...hopefully LT.

Can you send me the info you had for the gummy's you took that helped you sleep?
