Murder on Austin UT campus

Funny how all of you Idiot America red state okies are all so dumb. Something in the water up there I suspect. Or gene pool.
Well..you may have been on to something, expect I live in Texas. So like....I'm more willing to bet it has more to do with the water you're drinking than myself. I drink bottled water anyways. Purified son!!!! Maybe you should try it sometime and get off that filthy tap water you drink for economic/affordability reasons. ;)

Oh no, trust me. There are many uncertainties in life, this unfortunately isn't one of them.:D

No. When I was growing up, I was taught that being liberal meant that you think logically and critically about issues. You don't just accept things on face value. You question everything, even yourself. You think critically, and don't rely on inflexible ideology or dogma. You reexamine your own beliefs and opinions. You also respect other people and their ideas. You try to understand them, rather than blindly criticize them. When you argue with someone, you engage in a rational debate, not name-calling. I haven't seem much of that by some people claiming to be liberals.

What does not need to overlooked in this tragic death is the parents of the 17 homeless male who basically was left him to shift for himself at a young age.You bring a child into this world then you assume responsibility and those that do not deserved some punishment as in this case and not just be left out of the case as if they did not exist. Poor and pathetic parenting is a core issue in this country that creates problem children and adults.

In a sense I see where you are coming from. But if we adopt a mentality of extending the punishment of offenders to their immediate families, then that's really not far away from how North Korea treats their population in a ridiculously oppressive state.

Gentlemen please----

This comes down to two things.

First- will there even BE a trial. Odds are there won't be. When faced with the possibility of life with/without a chance of parole OR going to trial and pushing for the death penalty, a 17 year old homeless kid is going to plead down. Book it.

But let's just say he doesn't. Let's say he wants to go to trial. He's not rich, so he'll get a court appointed attorney that took 9 shots to pass the bar. Trust me, Travis County will assign him the lowest rung of the ladder lawyer. Then comes jury selection. The DA will no doubt be setting in on these interviews either as first chair or co-council and they will pick the truck drivingest, dip spittingest, gun owningest, people in all of Travis County to serve. The noob lawyer that the kid will get will be out foxed by more experienced attorneys and end up with 12 people that all have "Obama is the antichrist" bumper stickers on their jacked up F250s.

Now scholz, I lived in Austin many years and while I define myself self as socially progressive and fiscally conservative, you gotta admit that we do have some serious candy a$$ liberals in Austin that at TIMES can cram there agenda down your throat with a little too much "vigor". In fact if I hear the words "safe space" again I might dry heave. But Bell, please also understand that I know TONS of what you might call "flaming liberals" that are liberal about most thing EXCEPT the sexual assault and muder of an 18 year old CHILD. In point of fact, one of those persons I saw today in my building and asked her what they should do to this kid and she said, and I quote "fry his ass" and then she nodded her head as if to say "hell ya!".

The most shocking thing about this thread is seeing belldoucher read a basic graph at a sub-fourth-grade level.

Hilarious!!!!!!

You might want to read a news article or two on bottled water. There are plenty of them recently, seeing as how 5 of the top water bottling companies were busted for using essentially unfiltered basic tap water. UnPurified son except with all the added benefits bpa from the bottle itself.

At least you aren't wasting your disposable income on the lotto or something similarly as pointless as bottled water.

The wave of the future isn't even having one of them fancy ice/water dispensers on your refrigerator. Nowadays you can get a filtration system on your own tap. You should stop buying bottled tap water and when you save up enough $, buy one of these crazy gadgets for all your pipes. Then the once a month you bathe can even be in clean water.

Everyone thinks they are experts on water cuz they watched something on TV right?? That's pure comedy right there. I covered this in the other thread. Go experience the tap water in Midland/Odessa and get back with me about more of your expert analysis on water.

I don't know how we got off on water here but I will say I live in New Braunfels and have a Edwards water well. Hard as hell water but I use a water softener and it's some damn good clean water.

Have to disagree here.
Because I'm done coddling Idiot America doesn't mean I don't believe in liberalism. Completely different concepts. You're wrong on the concept of liberalism. Not all people deserve respect or equal time anyway.

Exactly I'd be real interested how many cases were turned down from death penalty sentencing even though the criteria was met.
Why? You don't seem interested in seeing data before you reach your conclusions.

ha...pass on your meandering's to a good 'ol' boy from the west side of Odessa - - then get back to us documenting just how many teeth you have left.

Midland/Odessa water isn't all that bad.

Then consider yourself lucky living up there in TTechs backyard. The last person I need lecturing me about Midland/Odessa water is you. I lived in the area, so I know for certain how bad it was. But hey, don't let that get in the way of your expert analysis of tap water just cuz you read or watched something in the news.

Scholz yes it's happened but in a very liberal county Most folks won't hold their breath that it will. And I hope that you and BBR can find it in your bleeding hearts to recognize this POS should get the death penalty. Can we all agree on that ?
We all agree you cannot admit when you are wrong which is 99.9% of the time. Now as usual you try to change the argument to fit your view. I am so glad Scholz, BRB and I could give you an education. We won't send you a bill by the way.

To think ALL conservatives are for the death penalty and ALL liberals are not is a stupid statement in and of itself. The all or nothing crowd you live in can't fathom it any other way. You were wrong about Travis County and you won't admit it.

I haven't watched anything on TV about it. In fact, if you read/comprehend better.....I clearly said I've read articles.

The Mayo Clinic agrees with me. So there's that. But you can be more of an authority than them if you'd like. You just look foolish trying to do so.

FWIW, I graduated with a Biochem degree....so there's that.

I know your bottled water dig was really just you trying to act like you were richer than the person you were responding too....and also to sound educated and also to shoot down his "its in your water" jab. But it bit you. And each ignorant response you give on bottled water just makes you look worse. Quit while you are behind.

I absolutely am more of an authority on it than the Mayo Clinic. Call me foolish all you want. I've experienced HORRIBLE tap water before. Flash your degree all you want. It won't change anything. I'll take my personal experience over your degree and the Mayo Clinic. You are attempting to take a stance that all tap water is the same. It clearly is not....so there's that. Not sure why you are getting all spun up over this anyways. Once little comment about water used in a jokingly manner with Scholz and you've gone on a rant here. I guess you are all serious about your Biochem degree or something.

I don't recall jsto60 saying that all tap water was the same. Where did he say that?

Ends up it was a bit of wrongful insinuation on my part making this assumption. But his argument appeared to be centered on an opinion that what the Mayo Clinic is saying completely trumps what I have experienced first hand. So that stance is completely ignoring the huge differences in tap water from one place to another.

BUT...he clarified his stance in the other thread where he did say he agrees that not all tap water is the same. So yes, it ended up being a wrongful insinuation on my part that he felt differently.

I never figured one off-comment about water to Scholz would end up being a huge "water vs water" argument. Lol :D

The death penalty is a social issue with crossover appeal. By that I mean there are liberals who support it and conservatives who are against it. As an example the very Republican state of Nebraska outlawed the death penalty. But I do understand the editions of this case.

I don't support the death penalty. Now hear me out. I have talked about my involvement with narcotics anonymous on this board before. I've known many brother and sister addicts who've had an all expenses paid vacation to TDC. They've told me they'd rather be executed than spend the rest of their lives in prison. What that tells me it's that life without the possibility of parole is even worse than the death penalty. My friends have told me that prison is boring. Each day is one year long and the next day is longer. For me that's suitable punishment. And maybe in the case of this 17 year old they're probably doing him a favor keeping him priso for the rest of his life. Some people are so institutionalized they're better off there.

How was I wrong? You act like I said Travis County has never sent anyone to the death chamber. I never said that but I sure had my apprehensions that the right thing will be done here since it is a very liberal county. Sure Travis county has done it in the past but I didn't argue they hadn't. I'm glad to see the capacity to do so is there but you won't find anyone on this board willing to wager it will happen in this case. Care to wager my friend? And just for clarification, do you also support in the death penalty?

Your insinuation was clear. And your assumption was uninformed and ignorant to the max. Yet you still won't man up to it. Pitiful.

"Liberal" equates to "wrong" in your little brain doesn't it. How very educated of you.

Well,I guess you do not mind paying more tax money to feed him, better yet, lets have his monthly meal bill taken out of your paycheck. When someone else is paying for it,then that's fine with you but when you start paying I think you will have a different tune.

No, I'm not wrong at all. You are just like intolerant right-wingers. If someone doesn't believe the way you do, then you label them as racist, bigot, etc. and then in your mind you can dismiss anything they say. Problem is, that's a self-serving attitude. That means you don't have to address your own beliefs critically, and find positions where you might be wrong. What is boils down to is, you confuse right and wrong with what you want.

Depends on what you mean by support....I believe it is the easy way out for some of these guys.....I believe time in jail is harder on them than the death penalty. I also would have to be 100% certain the person I am putting to death is guilty. As more and more people are getting off death row because of DNA it goes without saying that innocent people have been put to death. But if it is a certainty then I would not vote against it. No I am not in the "kill them all" crowd. I know in your small world that makes me a "bleeding heart". I would rather err on the side of caution than to kill an innocent person.

Dude I pay for them out here in California. And there are more people on death row here than in any other state. People get the death penalty here they just don't execute them.

I agree with erring on the side of caution no doubt I'm just saying if there is clear cut evidence, DNA match etc then I'm all for it. I am also for bringing the electric chair out of retirement in all states. The lethal injection doesn't really strike fear into anyone whereas the chair seems like a better deterrent. And hanging too.
