New staff rumors

The idea of Paul Rhodes or Jim Leavitt as a DC is really growing on me. Both seem to me to be excellent hires. Right now I'm leaning towards wanting Leavitt as our DC.

Leavitt is a heck of coach but I'm dubious that he'd want to make a lateral move position-wise within the college ranks. I have to think he'd be more interested in waiting out a potential head coaching opportunity again in college, or perhaps going back to the NFL with Mike MacIntyre if an NFL team hires MacIntyre to be their HC (keep an eye on the Jaguars for that). Mike Vrabel (Texans LB's coach; on the same staff at tOSU with Herman) and Tosh Lupoi (Alabama co-DC/OLB's coach) would be great options IMO.

If Drayton becomes the RB/co-OC we won't hear it publicly for a while.

WR still up in the air, Cedar Hill coach?

DC also wont be named anytime soon.

Same for OC or as I've heard it Asst HC/OC

Behind closed doors and as it goes with recruits, the names are known. Lets see how long everyone is willing to be sworn to secrecy.

word is the new coaches are thrilled to be at UT and the red carpet is being rolled out for all of them. Money is also no option and anything the need will be handed to them . I am sure that was the case when strong came in but this is a different type of excitement within the program. The mood of the coaches is not of employee but family and not super serious business like. I think that is why the current players have not been talking about quitting or boycotting anything. Best possible scenario that could happen.

Isn't Major still in the running for the Houston HC position?
not sure. Lane Kiffen was put out there today.

Another school could reportedly be in the hunt for Lane Kiffin. ESPN's Brett McMurphy reports the Alabama offensive coordinator is a possibility for the head coaching position at Houston, as is former LSU head coach Les Miles.17 mins ago

Yes Major and Orlando are in the running, but Houston is more than likely to make a splash hire and both could end up at Texas. I'd take both.

Not that I'm suggesting that we hire Paul Rhoads, but there are a lot of failed HC's that were awesome coordinators. That's one of the largest contingencies in the population of coordinators in college football. I would love to have a Phil Bennett, Jim Leavitt, Paul Rhodes, Will Muschamp, or Gene Chizik running our defense.

With all due respect, when it comes to Bennett -- NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought Applewhite was ineligible for rehire at the University? I think that if Houston wants to continue with what they have they give Applewhite the head job to keep continuity with the offense. But that would leave Orlando to come to Texas as I don't think he would stay on at Houston just as the DC. One thing I liked about Houston's defense in the limited amount of times I watched them was how opportunistic they were. They seemed to make big plays when they were needed and it seemed that a lot of turnovers were turned into points by the defense in form of pick 6 or scoop and scores. I know in the Cincinnati game, the defense scored 2 or 3 touchdowns in the 4th quarter alone.

I keep reading Major can't comeback because of the Bev lawsuit situation, but the only reason he was removed was because we hired a new coach. He'd still be coaching here had he not been guilty by association with Mack. I don't think we would be banning Herman from hiring Major.

I doubt the lawsuit hurts major here. He wasn't fired over the situation, and I don't see Texas being any more likely to lose the law suit by bringing him back. So if he wants to come back I don't see why anyone at Texas would keep Herman from hiring him.

Aren't you a Baylor guy, Bennett has presided over the best defenses you guys have ever had.

Yes I am a BU guy, but strooooonly disagree. I know it was a different era, but the Singletary years and later the Santana Dotson teams were pretty salty. Bennett presses the corners, which I've never understood - our DB's are shorter, slower, and inevitably get called for holding penalties and PI's (routinely leading the country). That type of D may work when you have superior talent or great pass rush, but not when you are average. He survived because BU led the country in total offense the last 3 years. What are BU's most memorable games over the Briles era? 61-58 over TCU? 70-63 over Washington in RG3's bowl game? 42-41 loss to Michigan St. in the Cotton Bowl, when MSU scored 3 td's in last 10 minutes? None of these are an endorsements to his defense.

need to consider Kevin Wilson as a OC if he did not do anything personal to be fired at Indiana

Indiana University will announce the dismissal of football coach Kevin Wilson at a news conference at 6 this evening, according to sources in the athletic department.

Supposedly he's being dismissed for off field issue. He'd be a good OC. I'd have to know the circumstances behind the issues though.

I bet we find out . I had heard the same thing but nothing specific. He either did a co-ed or pissed off a president/booster. Supposedly he has not stop gap and tells everybody how it is.

Wilson is like a Chicago cop. He doesn't look quite right without a mustache.

this.. the bold. At the end of the day Major would be welcomed regardless of Bev lawsuit.

Strong may have brought his staff, but he was winning in Louisville with an NFL caliber QB..................Herman and the major converted a kid to QB and were winning.

I see a big difference and I'd be fine if he brought his entire staff from Houston.

Not me, I want the best, not a group of guys that just happen to be at the right place at the right time.

We need a big time DC that can get the job done. I'm not concerned about the OC as I think he is just a figure piece for Herman. As long as the OC can also be the QB coach and teach our young QBs how to play the game.

Our new DC need to be able to control the defense as autonomous figure.
