Preventing Alzheimer's: The Power of Peptides and Nutraceuticals

As a Neurologist, I have seen too many families and friends affected by the ravages of Alzheimer’s. As many of yo are aware, Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects the brain with the build-up of senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles, the pathologic findings that lead to progressive cognitive decline. While there’s no guaranteed way to prevent Alzheimer’s, research suggests that certain peptides and nutraceuticals may help reduce the risk and support brain health. Here are some promising options to consider:

Peptides like Cerebrolysin, Thymosin Beta-4 (TB4), and BPC-157 are gaining attention for their potential neuroprotective effects. Cerebrolysin, a peptide derived from pig brain tissue, has shown promise in improving cognitive function and reducing neuroinflammation, while BPC-157 is thought to promote neurogenesis and protect against neuronal damage. Additionally, boosting NAD+ levels with compounds like Nicotinamide Riboside may improve cellular repair and help protect against neurodegeneration.TB4's potential in Alzheimer's prevention involves reducing inflammation, aiding neuronal repair and regeneration, and possibly influencing the pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer's, like amyloid plaques, through indirect pathways.

Complementing these peptides, specific nutraceuticals have demonstrated remarkable potential in supporting brain health. The powerful trio of curcumin, omega-3 fatty acids, and resveratrol stands out for their ability to combat inflammation and oxidative stress – two key factors in Alzheimer's development. These compounds, found in turmeric, fatty fish, and red grapes, work synergistically to protect neural tissue and maintain cognitive function. They are all available in capsule form and are readily available in stores and online.

Combining these supplements with a Mediterranean diet, regular exercise, and cognitive stimulation creates a robust defense against cognitive decline. As research continues, these natural interventions offer hope for maintaining brain health well into our later years. Checking in "Behind Enemy Lines"

Oklahoma (257 days until)

  1. DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR - Jim Knowles?:
    • Saturday: "Knowles went quiet on everyone yesterday(maybe agent spoke but he didn’t, from what I’m told) — including OU. At around 630 last night (haven’t checked back since), no one had heard from him yesterday and I was told he was wanting to get thru the celebration and enjoy it without any strife before a decision was made."
    • Sunday: "Jim Knowles signs 3-year contract worth an average of $3.1 millions per year at Penn State"
    • Who Else?: The name is Nate Dreiling. He is currently the Arkansas State DC, but he has a strong family background in the Sunflower State. From what I have been told, he knows the Sooners staff quite well, and his families ties to Kansas, along with where his dad being a big-name in the KSPreps world while coaching at Hutchinson (KS) High School have made this a good fit if it gets to that point.
Dreiling was an All-American LB at Pitt State. In college, he has coached at Kansas, Oregon, Southeast Missouri State, NM State and Utah State (where he even filled in to be randomly picked as interim HC there).

Now, do I know for sure this will happen if OU misses out on Knowles? I can’t verifiably say that is the case. However, it makes sense with his connections with the Sooners’ staffers and his ability to coach the LB position.

At the end of the day — and as I understand things if it’s not Knowles — if he was to be hired, Dreiling would be helping game plan during the week and on Saturday’s BV would be the one calling the plays.

Either way, you know who I was alluding to and why I said there were connections there with his father’s longstanding relationship with BV and the OU staff, along with Dreiling himself having some ties with current staffers.

Finally, he was a big recruiter for one Michael Boganowski as well. Obviously, Bogo’s father played at NM State, so they were a player with him from that standpoint. Another literally interesting piece to this whole deal.

We will continue to update you all on Knowles and the domino effect his hiring or missing on can cause for Oklahoma, so stay tuned there.
RECRUITS with Sooner Vibes...
  1. RECRUITING - 4-STAR, SEMAJ STANFORD, SAFETY - JENKS, OK: "Two schools have emerged as the top early contenders for Stanford, and they're familiar foes on both the football field and the recruiting trail. - “Nebraska and OU," he said. "Those two really been reaching out every day; they really want me. So those two are right there. Coach Mozee, that’s my guy [at Nebraska]. Shoot, they gonna keep it real; they’re gonna play the best guy. It’s just all family love over there. That’s what I’m looking for. And they develop guys, so that’s what he’s been preaching, and doing a good job of it as well.”

  1. RECRUITING - 3-STAR ALJOUR MILES II, WR - KAUFMAN, TX: “The only new thing that really happened is that I talked to Coach Arbuckle," Miles explained. "He seems real cool; he actually came to watch me play basketball on Friday. Kind of the same thing [from him], just be ready to play. He likes my speed and my size, so he plans to utilize that.” Miles added that he doesn't have any more visits set in the immediate future, and is likely done traveling until at least March.

“I got a couple of home visits, but I don’t think I’m going anywhere [else]," he remarked. "Northwestern’s coming Tuesday, and Kansas is coming Wednesday.”

  1. LAST WEEKEND - KJ FORD???? - Ford was scheduled to visit Texas for their Junior Day, according to @Suchomel and on Friday, the Duncanville Edge Rusher opted to head north to Norman. Why?
    1. Ford and Muscle Shoals, Alabama prospect Kamhariyan Johnson are two defensive lineman that Oklahoma is making a major surge for this spring.
    2. Johnson said: “I got to watch Coach Chavis do his work with the D-linemen," he continued. "Got to see all of the workout. It was me and KJ Ford there. I seen that I like the defense; that’s another big part of it, is fitting the defense. And I feel like I fit good in their defense. [Chavis] just showed me each and every thing I could do in the defense, and showed why he liked me very much in his defense.”

Let's call these next two parts... "Oklahoma Sooner Tilt Watch" - Nobody on OUInside is happy right now, as they shouldn't be after a miserable season with miserable coaching and now losing out on what was thought to be a DC that wanted to be at OU... "not so fast my friend, Penn State is taking away your blue-blood status.".. maybe?

"Could OU actually be worse? a thread... from their own" (OP: I think Y'all will like this one)

  • Top Comment: "Over the last 3 years I have heard people constantly say well it cannot get any worse, actually it can 😂. Yeah OU had 1 of the worst offenses in college football last season but the defense helped win them games. If the team quits like FL St did last year OU is in store for worse than 6-7. Just don’t like where this program is under this staff."
    • Reply: Is OU headed back to the Big 12? The current OU roster could win the Big 12.
    • Reply: if...if ...if. Thank God there's more to it than uninformed opinions.
    • Reply: Tough waking up like that everyday?
    • Reply: Or win 10 games like the year before when the defense wasn’t as good

"Joe C (Castiglione) needs to go with BV when he gets fired next year" (OP: AD, since 1998)

  • Top Comment:"This entire football admin needs a turnover. That’s two DC’s you’ve failed to hire/retain for what should be lesser programs. This falls squarely on Joe C’s shoulders."
    • Reply: "Whoever negotiates these things definitely deserves a kick to the ass. I’m tired of being in the lead and out of nowhere player/agent/coach “goes quite” and picks another school"
    • Reply: "The ZA thing was about control. The Knowles thing was losing to a team one tier below blue blood in Knowles’ home state. We will now have to settle for one of the best DCs in CFB to call the shots. That’s just horrible."
    • Reply: "I mean BV couldn’t even handle HC duties when he DID have a DC, what could go wrong now ?"
    • Reply: "Seems like OU is saving money for the eventual buyout. Joe C was a good AD for the 2008 landscape. Time to move into the next generation."

Texas A&M (306 days until)
  1. RECRUITING - NEW OFFERS: (Just a few of the 25 listed)
    • Krystian Walcott, OL - Buford, GA (Received Offer the Same Day as Texas, SMU, Missouri, Ole Miss and Arkansas, according to Rivals)
    • Jordan Crutchfield, CB - Fort Pierce, FL (No. 34 CB in the 2026 Class)
    • Deion Jackson, OLB - Fort Pierce, FL (Received Offer the Same Day as Georgia, Miami, and Auburn)
    • Asher Ghioto, SDE - Jacksonville, FL (One of the Projected Top Ranked Prospects in 2028)
    • DeMarcus Van Dyke Jr., ATH - Tampa, FL (Received Offer a week after Ole Miss)
    • Charlie Pisani Jr., OT - Fort Pierce, FL (Class of 2028)
    • DeMarrion Johnson, OT - Tyler, TX (Class of 2027)
    • R'Monie Edwards, OT - Cypress, TX (Class of 2028)
    • Wonderful Monds IV, QB - Vero Beach, FL (Class of 2028)
  2. PORTAL RECAP - MODS THOUGHTS:
    • QB: They're hitching their wagon to Marcel Reed, so Jacob Zeno makes sense. You have a one-year rental to get Miles O'Neill, Brady Hart, and Eli Morcos ready. If they hadn't clearly decided on Reed, then a seventh-year senior would be more of a questionable move.
    • TE: They got a lot of blockers, but this is going to make or break on Amari Niblack. If he's good, they're good. If he's not, you'd better pray Kiotti Armstrong is ready.
    • WR: I just don't know. Personally, I would have liked one more guy. Last year's receiver corps was pretty much a bust, with only three players at what you'd consider a decent level (Noah Thomas, Jabre Barber, and Jahdae Walker), and none of them were consistent. So they got KC Concepcion, Mario Crave,r and Jonah Wilson (and, maybe, Micah Hudson?). They're definitely faster. But I still feel like someone else needs to really make a move for this to be a solid to good group. Maybe it's Terry Bussey. Maybe it's Jerome Myles. Maybe it's Hudson.
    • DE: We've been downplaying the quality of the players A&M has brought in, but get this: TJ Searcy had more tackles (34) and sacks (2) than potential first-rounder Shemar Stewart (31 and 1.5) last season. Dayon Hayes was off to a huge start at Colorado before he got hurt. Sam M'Pemba is an unknown, but if he taps into the athleticism that made him the No. 10 player in the nation two years ago, he can be a factor. And, even though he's a freshman and not a transfer, Mario Jones could be a real factor.
    • DT: I thought they needed one more experienced player to go with Albert Regis, DJ Hicks, Tyler Oneydim, and Hero Kanu maybe that player. Kanu was in line to start next year for a defending national champion, so he might be of a little more value than we initially figured -- if A&M signs him, of course. He's already visited Texas and Florida but didn't sign in either place.
    • Nickel: Jordan Shaw's a nice piece. He's got starting experience, can play outside if needed and he's only a redshirt sophomore, so A&M may have him for a couple of years. He definitely can cover better than Jaydon Hill and could serve as a solid compliment to Tyreek Chappell (and maybe start if Chappell needs to move outside).
    • CB: Getting Julian Humphrey was important, but another veteran corner would have made me feel much better. Will Lee is All-SEC; Dezz Ricks was all-picked on. He still has a ton of talent, but competition was needed. Jayvon Thomas doesn't seem to be someone they trust, and after them, it's three true freshmen. Maybe they'll be great, but the 2023 debacle still makes me sick to my stomach.
  3. NEW COACH - John Perry, Rutgers WR Coach
    • Texas A&M has added a new wide receiver and tight ends coach with significant NFL experience.

Coach Mike Elko has hired former Rutgers wide receivers coach John Perry to join the A&M staff. His exact role has yet to be publicly defined, but he will likely serve as an offensive analyst and be on the field on game days.

Perry, 55, is no stranger to Texas. He was the tight ends coach for the Houston Texans from 2014-16, then coached the Texans’ wide receivers from 2017-20. He spent 2021 as an assistant at Rutgers, then headed to Huntsville to serve as Sam Houston’s offensive coordinator for a season. He returned to Rutgers in 2023 as a senior analyst.
  4. FROM THE CROWD - Questions/Answer
    1. Q: For the 2026 football recruiting class, what are your hopeful top 3 gets for ATM? (RacerRod)
A: Right now, my focus is entirely on the trenches. So that means offensive tackles Jackson Cantwell, Immanuel Ihaeanacho, and DT Lamar Brown.
    2. Q: Looking ahead to the 2025 college football season, what are your top-ranked 3 teams to start the season?
A: Oh, I don’t know. It’s still so early. I guess I’d say Ohio State, Georgia, and Texas, but nobody really knows.
    3. Q: Does A&M have a GM running the front office? If so, who and what are your thoughts on that person? (Big Smoothie)
A: They don’t have one GM, per se. They have Derek Miller, who is the general manager of recruiting, and Allen Gaudet, the director of player personnel. Both seem to be capable guys.
