QB Battle

He also isn't even the starting qb....he is 3rd string right now at the moment or 2nd. But who you know who is having a better preseason then him Dak Prescott bet that name never would of popped up in your head being a 4th round draft pick.

As a Cowboy fan I love what Dak is doing. He is pretty much having a better preseason than anybody in the NFL, unfortunately preseason MVP isn't a real thing.

I'm stating it based on first hand info/what I was told by people I still know on the ground and within the program, like I said...Everything I've been told jives with the BC article, if you haven't seen them. Check them out. I trust my peeps.

I can assure you, per conversations I've had. There are pros and cons for both.
I read it, at least re: the QBs. Pretty much goes along with everything else. Swoopes will start and may have more cumulative plays but many of those will be in the 18 Wheeler. Buchele will me the primary guy between the 20's.
I still question whether letting Swoopes stall a couple of drives benefits Buchele, but its just something I'm going to have to live with.
The fact that this decision reeks of Strong's mentality makes me think he had a hand in it, but no, I'm not claiming to have knowledge that Strong told the rest of the staff who was starting.

Mayfield didn't like that last meeting much, I doubt he likes the 2016 version much more.

I'm willing to bet that Mayfield is even more pumped up for the 2016 matchup than I am. And i'm pretty damn excited. He's going to love it and so will I! I just hope OU brings their offensive line this year

Yeah, maybe you girls will try this year. Maybe tell your coaches to get them ready this time.

If we assume the o line is an an issue than it would make sense to play the QB that can handle the blitz better. Don't forget that Shane has never even taken a college hit yet. This has to be on coaches mind.

As I said in a previous post, we might have a disadvantage on the line, but it is being overstated. We have two returning frosh all americans, and Perkins, who is a senior, is apparently doing much better back at his natural position. ND has two returning starters on the D line. I'm not saying their line won't be good, but this isn't the david vs goliath battle its being made out to be.

Hey we haven't drafted a qb in forever and to find a backup qb is what we needed. So if Romo does go down there is a quality guy there and not having to find a veteran scrub somewhere that usually doesn't cut it.

Found this today at USA Today:

Three of Nick Saban’s four titles with the Crimson Tide have come with first-year starting quarterbacks, so there’s not a tremendous amount of panic in Tuscaloosa even though he admits the position is “a work in progress.”

Just thought it was interesting....

I commented on this very thing the other day. Saban has had very average passing qb's at Bama but has big, good backs and good D and has done ok over there with that approach.

Games are won and lost in the trenches and our OL is banged up, I'm pretty sure there were 2 more casualties...today.

ND actually has three returning starters (Jones, Rochelle & Tillery) & a fourth (Cage) who has started.
Jones is often not listed as a returning starter because he missed last year due to injury, but was actually a starter the year before above the others.

So as an optimistic ND fan, I see the Dline as:
Jones & Rochelle on Outland & Lombardi watch lists (& both NFL draft picks next year) & Tillery a returning FrAA.

As a pessimistic ND fan I would say we are bringing nothing of a pass rush back on our Dline & counting on 4/5 star recruits to bring it with no experience at all.

Are they minor injuries? You guys appear to have plenty of depth so it should be ok. You roster shows approx. 20 OL is that correct?

Yes, minor and the depth is YOUNG.
It looks like y'all have 13 OL that are sophmores and older. Some of those surely redshirted so they've been in the system 3 years so I would say that's not necessarily young per se but perhaps in the amount of snaps played it is.

I cant believe Im about to go this route, so stick with me.

Read on ND board, they read on A&M board, that two Texas OLine starters have been sitting out because of injury & a third starter got hurt today.

I realize that won't hold up in court. Hearsay. Lol.

Shackleford and Nicholson have been nursing ankle injuries. Neither had been ruled out for ND game. I wasnt aware of a third injury.

I wonder at what point do you just throw them back in practice to get reps before game 1 or move on to the backups?
You can't really build cohesion if the line doesn't practice together. I would guess they start practicing next week or else?

Heard that Vahe was injured today, but haven't confirmed it yet.

This per another poster....

Per Chip:

"Redshirt freshman OL Buck Major will be a candidate for a sixth year to play four seasons after suffering a season-ending hand ligament tear."

Generally they would need to be healthy by Monday practice of game week.

Vahe would be a huge loss. Is the injury serious?

We have 1 senior and 2 juniors, the rest are Sophomores or younger. 16 total scholarship linemen, 3 upper classmen.

Young brah

The three RS Sophomores are Rodriguez, Cuney and Anderson.... Lol

Understand the argument about Swoopes experience...let Shane ease in...etc...

But if Shane is the fighter we've heard about, and has the mental game our QBs have been missing the last few years (see Swoopes reel), then let's give ourselves the best chance to win on our first possession.

Everyone knows injuries are a part of the game and they suck. Having said that, this is Charlie's 3rd year so there is really no room for excuses anymore. I've heard from some of y'all that Charlie is a great developer of talent and you may be right but I'm going to need to see it starting with ND. I felt compelled to post this because I'm seeing some perceived preemptive injury excusin' creeping in and really that's no excuse. Also every college team is young in areas, Texas is no different. Charlie seems like a nice guy so hopefully he can pull it all together.
