Strong must be really praying to tge football gods this season. First, Briles hand delivered recruits, second, half the ND fb team is ate up with the dumbass and will have to miss the first gameI was hoping both teams would be at full strength but I guess not.

That was the Tulsa Oline Mattox and Gilbert started against OU. They promptly put up 603 yards and 38 points (24 in the first half). Think what these guys can do with the talent in Austin.
Pulled the above from the Shag, but...It gives you an idea of what our current OC and OL coach had to work with at Tulsa. They have better prospects to tinker with now. Until we see them coach this unit in a game, it's difficult to say with any certainty how we feel about this line and offense.

The thing that Tulsa had was a qb that could throw the ball around. I was impressed with his passing ability. I will say this though, that game was something like 24-3 before half and looking like a route over Tulsa was well underway. OU had some bad turnovers and let them back in the game.

These arrests are a big deal. The reason is they basically turned over their entire defense. Fall camp ended on Friday. The senior who was kicked off was one of two returning starters. His back up is a true freshman. In other words, a guy who was supposed to be a leader of a bunch of new starters, is now being replaced by a true freshman. And there is no more time to practice.
Second, he kept referring to the fact that Texas would be starting a freshman. When it was pointed out that Swoopes may start, he actually laughed, and said "oh yea, we saw that last year, a three and out fest". You could tell that he didn't believe it was even a possibility. And yet, is there anyone who follows this team who doesn't think Strong might start him? Sigh.

I have been one of the few on record saying that Swoopes has some talent and Gilbert may be able to put a system in place to bring that out in him. Having said that, that Tulsa qb was really impressive as a passer and made some very precise throws.

Scholz if I'm downplaying it, it's because this is a make it or break it year for Strong. He's had the time to recruit and develop his players. He is praised for being a developer of talent by some of his strongest supporters. Injuries suck no doubt but as of now do you even know if these players are out for ND?
I am not a ra-ra guy. Anyone who has seen my litany of posts about Swoopes starting can attest to that. With that said, I'm not nearly as pessimistic about this line as others seem to be. I understand that "games are won in the trenches". I also understand that there is rarely a team that is better on every spot at the line than the guy lined up across. I've also seen TTU line up three linemen with huge splits in the shotgun, and move the ball with ease. Its all about scheme, planning, and taking advantage of mismatches in your favor. That, and executing.

My hope lies in Gilberts hands as an OC....and, I agree, except rarely do under sized or inexperienced lines produce all that well. I hated the Watson hire and truly believe his West Coast BS was the biggest issue. He wanted the players to play his style of ball instead of coaching to their abilities and strengths.
But, Kelly is in his 6th season and has had time to recruit a roster full of talent, get real dude. You spew BS about Strong and then pull this crap!
It is make or break for Strong regardless of how much you don't want to admit it. That's what's odd to me. I can promise you if Stoops goes on a 6-6 rampage for a couple of years I'll be leading the pack on wanting him gone. Actually it would take less than that. For some of you though, even through the 3 OC fiasco's, the 107th ranked defense deal, 5 mil per year etc. some of y'all act like you can't criticize anything about him. Perplexing really and really kind of being unrealistic don't you think?
Do you think our line, if at full strength, is undersized?
Also, I wonder where Hudson is in all this? If linemen are dropping like flies he has to be getting some reps, I would think.
