Sumlin on the way out???

I don't know or care where Chip gets his info, but if the AD isn't seriously weighing his options with Sumlin right now he isn't doing his job. Sumlin had one good year (but nothing in the trophy case) and the team has gotten progressively worse each year since then. The Qb mess he's created is unparalleled, it's literally never been done before.
Well the AD just announced he's stepping down....

so they will have to pay this guy...no way they pay 20 mil to get rid of sumlin and they reported earlier on the radio that sumlin is not actively seeing a NFL job.

Eric Hyman’s largely uneventful three-and-a-half-year stint as Texas A&M's athletic director concluded Tuesday when he announced that he was stepping down from the position.

There was no official word yet as to who the replacement will be or when it will be announced.

Hyman previously held the same position at South Carolina and his experience in the Southeastern Conference was a major reason he was hired by A&M in June of 2012. A&M was entering the SEC that year.

However, he seemed to have a distant relationship with Aggie sports fans, who often complained he wasn’t approachable or visible. Fans on message boards and talk shows often wondered what he did to earn his seven-figure salary.

Yet, he primarily seemed to draw the ire of Aggies when he suggested in a 2014 interview with the San Antonio Express-News that his job was to “manage expectations that define reality.”

Fair or not, many Aggie fans interpreted that to mean that high demands should not be placed on football and men’s basketball, in particular.

Hyman’s critics complained when he did not replace basketball coach Billy Kennedy after A&M finished 18-16 in 2014 and in 2015 went 21-12 and failed to reach the NCAA Tournament.

However, Kennedy’s team is now 11-2 and ranked 17th in the nation.

Several other Texas A&M teams have had success during Hyman’s tenure.

The men’s and women’s track & field teams have won national championships. The women’s tennis team finished second in the nation and the women’s basketball team won the SEC tournament in 2012-13. The soccer team has won SEC championships and advanced to the Women’s College Cup for the first time in school history.

A&M also won SEC championships in men’s tennis, women’s golf and volleyball in 2015.

Hyman hired current women’s tennis coach Mark Weaver last July.

I would say no. To me it's clear that his only shot is to follow the dabo Sweeney plan and hire coordinators to bail him out like Morris and venebles did. His oc hire needs to be a grand slam, someone who can completely run their side of the ball from oline through the quarterback. Chavis has done that on the defensive side of the ball and has began to implement his vision for that side of the ball, this needs to happen on offense as well. Right now Sumlin is Mack brown without a Vince young.

3rd and Chavis..the savior..bwahahahaha..*watches Louiville (basketball school) score again....puuuullllleease

Did not take long for the 100 year decision to blow up.

jesus....chavis did not do shit this year and he is the savior ?????? wow..i have never, ever seen so much poster board material from one fan base in my whole life. Rumor on the main board is some institutional control and money issues facing a&m in the weeks to come. I can only pray that is true.

Totally agree. Love seeing aggy struggle, lol.

Uh oh - the vultures are circling.

Before you start: Don't tell me how much harder it is in the SEC. We get it. It's a world-class league, especially when viewed from the bottom of the West.

But you may recall it was 8-5 Louisville -- of the very same ACC that calls North Carolina champ of its Atlantic division -- that beat the Aggies in the Music City Bowl.

Either Sumlin needs to find the right play-caller to fix his offense, and quick, or he earns himself a reputation as a great recruiter and CEO, much like the guy who used to work in Austin. And that's a best-case scenario.

Because, given the rate people are exiting College Station these days, what's more likely if it goes bad this fall is the 100-year Decision claims its first football coach. And still 93 years to go.

Nah, he's not out yet. They're gonna money whip Meacham and title him Assitant HC/OC for somewhere between 1.2 and 1.5 million, hand him the keys and hope for the best.

That would be a strong hire imo. It's likely just delaying the inevitable with Sumlin, but Meachum's name can at least stabilize the current tailspin they are in.

That would be big. I guess Meachem might want to make the move for the $ and to be at a bigger program.

I just don't get the real fit for ATM. Sumlin is supposed to be the offensive guru. He doesn't need to hand off the keys there. He should be taking control and fixing it himself. Why bring in a strong minded and OC and make it a divisive staff? Other than ATM wants name recognition and doesn't care about making a cohesive fit. If they feel Sumlin is a flop, then saving him from himself with Meachem is a good move. But so would firing him and moving on.

I'm not sure that it is a forgone conclusion, but he turned down the TXST HC job yesterday and they are desperate. They'll give him whatever he wants and more.

yea, cause naming somebody HCIW always works ;) So it is meachum with Knight as his QB...this should be fun to watch :) at least that cock blocks Herman for us so if we have a bad year he will be available to replace strong. Win..win...plus it gets meachum out of the big 12.

Nobody said HCIW. Meachum is about the best possible name recognition hire to be made. He'll stabilize recruiting. I'll give them that.

I would have thought Meachum's next job would be as HC somewhere. TCU has a pretty good spotlight on it right now, other than money there isn't a lot of upside in taking another OC job.

somebody had put that on another site and just edited out..so my bad. The aggies have no problem recruiting, he may stabilize the kids that are there but like I said, it is a sumlin culture there and that will be hard to change. I honestly cant see why he would want to risk his career going there but hey, maybe he will make it work.

looks like texas state would not pony up the money. A&M is hemorrhaging money and if they did some 3 year deal @ 1.2 to 1.5 mil good for them. They have to fill up that stadium they built somehow and there are rumors of money problems because of it.

TCU co-OC Doug Meacham turned down offer to become coach at Texas State, source told @ESPN. Sides couldn’t reach financial agreement

did a&m just get Charlie browned ????

Sources tell FootballScoop that TCU co-OC Doug Meacham will not be the next offensive coordinator at A&M. To be more clear, per sources, Doug Meacham will not be moving to College Station

I agree. The Aggie offense will struggle next year since they are starting over at QB, which won't help his resume. Then Sumlin will be back on the hot seat. Kind of like Cumbie passing on the UT job because of pressure on Strong to deliver next year. If I was in his shoes, with Trill coming in next year TCU will be alright - I would wait for the head coaching job, or at least a higher profile/stable OC job.

You are praying for our demise so much? Why do you care if we matter so little? That's what's funny about T-shirt Texas fans. They want to appear unflappable but they are extremely sensitive. They have every advantage on the face of the earth and 1 national title in 45 years. Say we don't have any and that is true but either you are a dominant program or you aren't. And you aren't. Maybe in fundraising.

As an added note: I do know that part of this hire had to do with a contract clause that didn't allow the OC to leave his current job until after the New Year. I know for a fact that Mazzone had such a clause in his contract but am unclear as to whether or not TCU's Doug Meacham was under similar restrictions. As I said a couple of weeks back, Meacham was the name mentioned by Kevin Sumlin to the Murrays while attempting to keep Kyler in the fold but, per most of what I've heard of late, Mazzone is the name that continues to come up as the guy.

Again, this (the OC hire) should happen very, very quickly.

Okay, just to be clear, as I've been hearing for the last week or more and stated again about an hour ago, I'm as convinced as ever we're talking about a Noel Mazzone hire happening in very short order.

Just wanted to post this separately because of all of the smoke surrounding Doug Meacham today. None of that was happening today or even the past ten days or so. I'll have more thoughts on this shortly, as I'm trying to pin down when we're talking about things becoming 'officially official.'

Interesting choice of 45 years for your time frame. Since 1960, we've averaged a national title every 15 years. About due for our next one.

1963, 1969, 1970, 2005

There is a HUGE red flag when all of the UCLA fans on the college football subreddit are HOPING that we take Mazzone from them. I seem to remember another fanbase that wanted their coach gone last year, and that was Utah fans. They were so happy when we took him off their hands.

Add to the 1 title in 45 years lol.. 3 losing seasons in the past 6 years. Good luck in the little pizza bowl or potato bowl next year and zero draft picks this April.

One last note - Iowa state 24 Texas 0. LOL
