Texas Recruiting

That puts us at 289 and change with 23 commits.

Hale, Toviano should be Horns too.

There is another monster Tackle in LA I heard is now on our board. Another low 4* but huge. Would be a very good get.

Who else is a target this fall?
Cedric Baxter and he’s committing on the 10th

So I was just reading that Gullette was the anchor on his 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams. He also threw 53.5’ in the shot put. He is a hell of an athlete from the sounds of it.

I know Teague is a small school, but any idea size? 2A? Of course, that doesn’t alter his remarkable size and speed. It only affects full evaluation of competing against others that have similar size and speed.

I believe it’s 2A.

Interesting that we will have two 4* from such small schools. I come from small town America and it is rare to have anybody just make it to D1. The only athltes I know to make it big from the panhandle are Zach Thomas and Mike Hargrove (we’ll see what our very own Brennan Thompson from Spearman will do). Even if you include Amarillo, not much. Weird, that going further down to Lubbock, you get quite a bit more well known athletes. Okie St had a qb from a small town outsede of Amarillo a few years ago, but I don’t whatever became of him.

Some speculation that Toviano may announce any day now for the good guys. Matthews as well. Nice little haul on the back end of the defense.

he played at marlin last year. won't play this year due to injury (legit.. not protecting himself). saw him on film last year-- just.... calm down is all i can say
I have seen his film as well. He’s a really good player at position of need.

you saw highlights. i saw film. i went back and watched again to see if i mis-remembered-- nah. playing inside linebacker, his first step is backwards even on run plays. if he's an edge rusher, that ain't how they used him. good side to side speed, i guess. that's something. sorry, but he'll be at incarnate word in 2 years

I saw film as well. I have some buddies that coach down in that area. He’s projected to be an edge rusher at the next level. Not to many guys come out of high school division 1 ready in their first year. I strongly disagree with your assessment though.

He was also an all state receiver last year.

The ultimate goal - IMO - is 300 total points for your class on the 247 Composite which is usually reserved for Alabama, OSU, and Georgia. Looks like UT has a solid chance of attaining that goal for their 2023 class.

Scouts actually have Gullette rated higher than Vasek.

I watched Ketch/Suchomel and they were saying he would have gotten 5* if he’d been at a larger school. The small school is why he is a low 4*-it is already factored in.

i hope i'm wrong, and i will admit to not always knowing what translates from high school to college, and then college to pro... i'm just saying he doesn't move piles (in the one game i saw, admittedly, but it was a state semifinal), he moves side to side on the snap, he doesn't even jump on piles. he seems to avoid contact. i would say those are big negatives because hawley isn't as big and mean as oklahoma. i have seen where high schools stick their best player at middle linebacker so the other team can't run away from him, even though that player doesn't know how to play that position-- maybe that's the case here. i don't know. hopefully, i'll be eating crow in due time.

I’m leaning your way on this one. While I don’t think it’s as bad as IW, the kid is extremely raw. Great athlete, but it’s gonna take a couple years to coach him up on the next level. His tackling form needs the most work. Leaves his feet too much.

Unless he’s got superior kinesthetic intelligence. Some athletes can make corrections quickly with proper communication and instruction.

Can’t coach his kind of raw ability though.

The one thing you can’t coach into kids is raw athletic ability. Gullette isn’t an elite athlete but he’s not far from it. The fundamentals can be coached into him.

He ran a 22.8 200 at 220 pounds. That’s pretty incredible for his size.

I can't believe Bama Offered him. Maybe Jimbo was right. Saban isn't the "God" he thinks he is.

That should bump us up to number 3 in the rankings.
Right now, the class rankings don't tell the whole story as some schools still have quite a few commits coming in. In other words, a high number of commits - right now - inflates the rankings. The thing to concentrate on is the team's average per recruit

Likely to finish with a 290+ rating. That guarantees a top 5 basically.

Our RB is going to be ridiculously good even after losing Bijan and Roschon. Brooks has looked really good in the limited time he has played. Jaydon Blue is really good as well.

Yep, looks like the top 5 will be Alabama, OSU, Texas, Georgia and ND - the order yet to be determined. A top 5 class - year after year - is possible NC type talent

Nice pick up with Baxter. Put up some wins and I bet a couple of these recruits that didn’t commit take another look

Yep.

What's the wish list?

Jordan Matthews - CB (by all accounts he is UT)
Javien Toviano - CB
Damon Wilson - Edge
Markis Deal - DL
Caden Jones - OT
Jalen Hale - WR
Tausili Akana - Edge

I don't think David Hicks is a serious target, but like you said -- win some games and maybe he changes his mind. Hard to do though.

I don't think Duce Robinson is a serious target. Maybe Arch can convince him he needs a TE???
