Texas Recruiting

Yep.

What's the wish list?

Jordan Matthews - CB (by all accounts he is UT)
Javien Toviano - CB—by most accounts, leaning our way.
Damon Wilson - Edge-long shot, but needle has moved lately.
Markis Deal - DL
Caden Jones - OT
Jalen Hale - WR-I’d say he is ours, but never know with 18yr olds.
Tausili Akana - Edge

I don't think David Hicks is a serious target, but like you said -- win some games and maybe he changes his mind. Hard to do though.

I don't think Duce Robinson is a serious target. Maybe Arch can convince him he needs a TE???
Added verbiage.

This is with a 3 start punter...who is the best punter in the nation, but punters don't get stars. Texas comes in at 15th. When fishing for bigger fish it just takes longer to catch sometimes. There will be some more news today and tomorrow. The SEC is fixing to be so much fun in a few years.

2023 average recruit rating (per@247Sports)
1. Alabama (94.89)
2. Texas A&M (93.54)
3. Ohio State (93.42)
5. ND (93.31)
5. Georgia (93.05)
6. Clemson (92.4)
7. Miami (92.32)
8. Oregon (92.02)
9. USC (91.98)
10. Penn State (91.83)
This didn't age well.

How the hell does Rivals have Baxter as the 118th best recruit in the nation but all other recruiting services have him in the top 50. He's got all the tools including size at 6'1 nearly 220 pounds.

4* CB Jordan Matthews announcing tomorrow at 2pm. Would be surprised if anyone but us.

Yeah, best of luck to the young man.

Not sure why he has entered now. Can he still enroll elsewhere?
I think he can enroll but he's not eligible to play until next season. The cutoff date is May 1st to be able to play the next season. Unless there is a coaching change after May 1st.

This is why I consider the 247 Composite the best recruiting service. All of the individual services have their biases and the Composite adds them together which averages those biases out - for the most part.

This just in, Cedric Baxter is a HOSS!

Edgewater(FL) vs Don Bosco(NJ)

26 carries, 272 yards, 2TDs, in the rain.

Man, I don't mean to dog the kid, but I've way much better RB's over the years scouting HS players. He looks good, and I'm glad that he's coming to Texas, but he's not elite. He's not even close to Benson, Charles, Ricky or Earl's caliber of player based on that film.

Wow. Guess I need my eyes checked, because I thought I saw a big Derrick Henry looking back take one 96 yards to the house against a top team from New Jersey on a wet field.

That highlight was against New Jersey’s number 1 team. He’s going to get his 5th star before seasons end. I’m going to disagree with you in saying he’s not close to those guys. He may not be there yet but from what I saw from last season to this season the kid has improved drastically.

On Hale, Justin Wells had a quote from him last night along the lines of "I'm excited to transition from Ewers to Mannings in college". That may have been a tell about his upcoming decision but could have just been a slip up, he maybe meant his is excited about that as a possibility. Apparently he was also super happy to see Brennon Marion at the game. this was leaning Bama but does sound like Texas' is the leader at this point.

Hale announcement tomorrow. Seems to be leaning tides way sadly.
It wouldn't be a big deal to lose out on Hale. We're stacked at WR and also getting Neyor back next season will add to our group. There's also 5 star Jonah Wilson who has UT high on his list plus there's the transfer portal and flips from other schools.

WR is about the one position i'm not really sweating losing a guy like Hale. We still have Niblett and Cook who are both top 75 overall players in the 23 class.
