speaking of texas recruiting, seeing them this far down seems weird
Hey in 2021 we were ranked only 16th and everybody was up in arms. Most of the great players went out of state that year especially Alabama.speaking of texas recruiting, seeing them this far down seems weird
Why do people always say stuff like that when the recruiting class is rated lower than what is typical? Not just you, I notice this in pretty much every fan base. You still want the best players, you need to get as many of them as possible because not everyone pans out. those who are rated higher in the rankings tend to have a higher success rate of developing into difference makers.Sark plays the long game. Much different than Mack.
And Sark recruits the LOS unlike Strong and Herman.
Also, Sark trusts the portal as well.
No reason to panic
Yes it was a fine year but the margins are slim. The games against tcu, ksu and houston all came down to the final minutes or seconds, and we could have been looking at last season in a completely different way.Hey in 2021 we were ranked only 16th and everybody was up in arms. But hey look how it turned out the guys that stayed played great. I trust our coaches.
While I agree with you, I seem to remember that Mack would, for example, tell 3 running backs there is only one offer - whoever accepts first gets it. And missed out on getting some of the truly top recruits by closing out early. No idea if this is true, but I read it many times. Why do people always say stuff like that when the recruiting class is rated lower than what is typical? He may play the long game but he also recruits top players every cycle, that's his MO. His 24 class was #6. His 23 class was ranked #3. His 22 class was #5. So clearly he does go after the best players and gets most of them. I know signing day is over 4 months away but being out of the top 10 in recruiting, even on July 27, that's not intentional. He's still going after all the big fish that all the other big time programs are going after. It seems that he's not landing them at the same level as in previous classes.
And that's why it's weird seeing them at 13th today instead of say 4th or 5th where they seem to always be.

Times are changing. With the advent of NIL, you've got tons of flips at the last second. It's a bidding war now. An arms race. If you're still recruiting like you did under Mack Brown, you've lost. The rules are being written daily. Why do people always say stuff like that when the recruiting class is rated lower than what is typical? Not just you, I notice this in pretty much every fan base. It always comes down to attrition unless it's the US vs 7th century Ottomans... The toughest citizenry wins. What does that say for all our gay and trans softies everywhere.Times are changing. There's a book out there called "The Guns of August"
It's about the lead up to WWI and goes meticulously through how it came about. But the underlying current is this- in the run up to the war, military strategists planned how they would attack, defend and win the conflict as quickly as it started. The problem was, they were basing their assumptions of how the war would progress, based on what happened in the PREVIOUS wars they had fought.
The rules had changed. The strategies and technology had changed. And those mistakes they made early in the war (1914) ultimately led them into a bloody stand still and a war of attrition.
The moral of the story was-- "you can't fight the new war with the old tactics and expectations".
Welcome to recruiting in 2024-- the new war.
You cant depend on last minute flips, it's not sustainable. The only thing that is sustainable is how and what you recruit out of high school, and we all should know that's the best way to build a culture in a program, because a team full of mercs isnt it. This is why sarkisian goes after and gets enough top players to get top 10 classes. until the 2025 class at least.Times are changing. He whiffed on so many good players. but his resume speaks for itself. and now he's one of only 2 national championship coaches still activeWhile I agree with you, I seem to remember that Mack would, for example, tell 3 running backs there is only one offer - whoever accepts first gets it. While I do agree that signing highly rated recruits is necessary (today), and having a strong culture is is critical, I do believe that you may be looking in the rear view mirror. You cant depend on last minute flips, it's not sustainable. But i highly doubt his class being where it is at now is an intentional thing. I see who he's offering, he wants their commitment.
There will be a season (mark my words) where the bulk of a schools starting roster will be transfers. They may not win it all, but they'll play in the title game. While I do agree that signing highly rated recruits is necessary (today), and having a strong culture is is critical, I do believe that you may be looking in the rear view mirror.
With the advent of NIL, coupled with the ability to transfer with no penalties, the old ways of doing business (roster managent) may no longer be applicable. I believe the mercenary behavior we are seeing will only increase with good players riding the pine leaving for not only playing time, but also NIL dollars. Wouldn't surprise me a bit to see the top programs, like Texas, relying more heavily on the transfer portal in the near future, while allowing the lesser programs to deveop the high school recruits and essentially acting as a farm system.

Clob ..I agree. It will be like baseball....where your beloved star goes to your hated rivalThere will be a season (mark my words) where the bulk of a schools starting roster will be transfers. They may not win it all, but they'll play in the title game.

No, not willingly. Write your senatorok. It’s awful. Hit the panic button.
Will you shut the **** up now?
Fong is saying we should have a 5* August, so I’ll wait until then and signing day to critique.
Agreed. Sark will get his share and he’ll flip one or two that committed early. We’ll end up with a top 5ish class most likely. I do think we could see a shift away from schools putting as much emphasis on high school commits the longer the portal and NIL play out. We’ve got the pockets to get ANYBODY Sark decides he needs.I believe we're going to have a good month, and leading into the fall.
The thing about NIL is that sure programs like texas and to a greater extent oregon will never let money get in between them and a recruit they need. But now we have a ton of little programs like missouri who dont have the same money, but they do have enough to buy off a 5 star here and there that texas wanted. you got a missouri taking this guy, then mississippi gets another, aggie gets another, usc gets one, tennessee gets some too. Suddenly the pickings be getting slim because you got the missouri's of the world willing to break the bank on that one big star of their class. while texas has to spread the wealth around because they want to compete for national titles while missouri is just happy to buy off that one 5 star they were able to outbid you on.Agreed. of course this is true....but you just finished explaining how this is becoming more and more difficult...Anyway high school is still super important because that pipeline is where culture is developed. a team full of mercs might win a title once every decade or so but we know what a championship program looks like. championship team or championship
IT's harder for everyone but the best recruiters still usually end up with top classesof course this is true....but you just finished explaining how this is becoming more and more difficult...
If Riley doesn't fvck around, USC won't be grabbing scraps- they'll be grabbing everything west of Colorado. The thing about NIL is that sure programs like texas and to a greater extent oregon will never let money get in between them and a recruit they need. All signs point to Lockett being a horn
Possible, though Oregon can say that too and washington is in a position to say something too if they can maintainIf Riley doesn't fvck around, USC won't be grabbing scraps- they'll be grabbing everything west of Colorado.
Riley has Hollywood in his back pocket. Almost all of the big name directors have ties to USC in one way or another.Possible, though Oregon can say that too and washington is in a position to say something too if they can maintain
Wait?? How can this be? Our class and recruiting sucks!!Kaliq Lockett, 6’2 WR with 11” hands and is known for winning 50-50 balls. Welcome to the 40. He is a high 4* and a 5* on some ranking sites
