Week 1 score predictions

Like I said we should beat them by 21+. I think a lot of people are extremely under rating our defense this year. This should be one of the better defenses we have had in a while. Our front 4 has some NFL early round talent on it I believe. We returned a ton of experience in the secondary as well.

Thing is, no one knows for sure how Texas is going to look. It's all speculative up to now. A game or two will show what we've got. To say for sure the things that you're saying is just a guess without seeing the team play a game. All new coaching staff, new QB, open competition at all positions, transfers, etc. You might want to wait until you see a few games before taking the position that you are.

And I agree with that. I just felt like our defense progressed starting from the West Virginia game on last year. I'm way more speculative with our offense although I do believe we have some very good weapons in Bijan, Worthy, Moore, and Whittington. I believe if Card can come in have a Colt McCoy esque type of freshman season then we should be a 9-10 win season. We will know a lot more by 7 PM Saturday night.

We got no LBs.
I can’t help wondering what you were saying going into seasons like ‘08 and ‘09. Were you just like “we got no RBs”, and generally negative or what? I appreciate keeping it real, but man you’re more on the negative Nellie side. Although, after our last decade, I can’t hold that against you.

I have no idea what to expect. With Hermie, it was pretty predictable. Slow start mixed in with some hero ball and then a little river boat gambler or turtle to finish it off. I can't wait to see an offense that doesn't run the QB 25 times a game.

What I do is I look at the talent from the past-- players that were "good" like Bobino and players that were "great" like DJ.

Overshown is really our only LB and he's got a narrow ass-- he is 6'4 and weighs 214. 214.

2 hundred and 14 pounds. Roy William played WR for us at what, 6' 4 and 215 pounds?

Now I get it, he's an athlete, but lining up and running right at him would be my approach of I were the opposing coach. He's 214 pounds--- not 245.

David Gbenda--- he's a 6 foot sophomore. Most of our DBs are taller and weigh almost as much.

We've got one guy Ray Thorton who has some some size. 6'3 242-- he's a senior who has had limited playing time thus far.

As far as the transfers go-- I can't put faith in guys that I've never seen play in our system. Granted, this is a new system for everyone, but there's a reason these guys transfered instead of staying to play at their previous schools.

Metcalf, I promise you with all my heart, the moment this team starts bringing talent to the table, and coaching that talent up, and putting a product on the field that is worthy of upholding the standards of Texas, then you'll hear nothing but praise from me.

But we ain't there yet-- and we haven't been there since 2009.

Completely fair. You're always a consistent poster

everything I can find about Overshown has him at 6'4" and 223 lbs.....still light, but better than 215

He might not be the biggest guy with weight but he will still thump you. He has said the game has slowed down and if that is true he will be everywhere and get a stop or slow someone down. And the D line will slow people down for the second layer.

bet Hook 'Em or STFU

youre being a c*nt

I’m not worried about Overshown’s weight. Dude hits like a truck. I’m more concerned with him getting called for targeting, just like his fellow scud missile Foster back there behind him.
Demarvion Overshown could be the difference maker that we have needed for so long. Personally I like his look 6'4" 220 you know a basketball players frame. And he has bb lift to him. Last year he almost made an incredible pic at OSU. Even though it was an incomplete pass he had some serious vertical on that play.

I don't know how many people on here remember a lb for the Steelers named Jack Lambert. He had the same dimension as DO. He had the ability to look over the line and watch the play in front of him and because of that it was easy for him to diagnose. So maybe DO can be that guy. Btw do you remember that sack against WV that forced them to kick a fg?

Overshown has a shoulder problem. He missed time last season because of it and missed the Spring because of it. At some point this season he will hurt it again and miss some games.

Prototypical LB size is completely different now than it was 15 to 20 years ago. You need guys like Overshown that can run to defend these spread offenses.

I'm say 38 - 10 UT based on man vs man matchups. UT is bigger and stronger, thus should win the trenches. He who wins the trenches, wins the war!

Bijan has run against a stacked box his entire life. Ho-hum, nothing new there.

Sark will call the plays to enhance Card's comfort and productivity. With a powerful run game, a 3 headed monster, there's no need to take risks!

Experience is LA's only brag, but that gets deflated when you are physically overmatched and motivated!

Matchup to watch, ULaLa center Shane Vallot, (R-JR, 2020 3rd Team All Sunbelt, 2020 Rimington Watch List, 6ft/267 lbs) vs Texas NT Keondre Coburn (R-JR, 2021 Bednarik Watch List, 2020 All Big-12 Honorable Mention, 6’2”/346 lbs). Vallot appears to be good center, but he is giving up 80 lbs to a future NFL player, which means Coburn could become a big disruptor in the middle. ULaLa will probably need to double team Coburn which could give Ojomo, Brockermeyer, and Overshown some room to roam or squeeze the OL so our ends can get upfield to contain or attack the passer.

If Coburn can cause disruption or force double teams, that will create important sight lines for other Horn playmakers because ULaLa is short in the backfield with QB and RB sub 5’10. Visibility in the middle as well as outside contain could help the Horns read and react to keep ULaLa QB and RB in the pocket and not let them get outside to create plays with their legs. ULaLa’s receivers are tall, but our DB’s match up well, except Jamison but he makes up for it with pure athleticism. This means we should be able to win at the point of attack, but could be vulnerable to extended plays via QB and RB improvising. Seeing and recognizing play, then containing and disrupting the middle should be our key to success.

Just my 2 cents that Coach PK does not need, but should be interesting to watch.

We have the size and talent. What I want to see is if we can execute and do the small things. Can we get off blocks? Can we tackle? Will we play disciplined and stick to assignments? These are the things that can't be measured and will make the difference. We've almost always have more talent than the teams we play, yet we have in the past been terrible at actually playing football. I'm hoping the new staff is as good as advertised but for some reason coaches forget how to coach once they get hired here.

There stud OL is O’Cyrus Torrence 6'5, 332lbs. I am assuming is the LT. We'll see how that match up goes as well. I believe Texas's success will depend on how well we can run the ball.
