Here's a position by position glance at the historical breakdowns I recently did by positions in the state of Texas.
(UPDATED 6/24/23) Quarterbacks: The elite of the elite quarterbacks from the state of Texas hit at very high levels.
(UPDATED 7/3/23) Running Backs: The elite of the elite running backs from the state of Texas hit at very high rates. 12 of the 19 highest rated running backs from Texas in the history of the rivals ratings have played in the NFL. The bottom pretty much falls out on the position after you get beyond the five stars and the high four stars.
(Updated 7/8/23) Wide receivers: This position has one of the highest busts rates of any position in the state. Historically, mid- and low-four star wide receiver prospects have been worthless at the collegiate level.
Tight Ends: (Updated 7/10/23) The highest hit rates among elite level prospects from the state of Texas occurs at this position.
Offensive Linemen: (UPDATED 2/6/22) The offensive line position in the state of Texas is a train-wreck. Outside of a freakish Texas A&M 2010 offensive line class, which featured three future first-round draft picks, only five of the state's top 35 (14.3 %) other top offensive linemen from 2002-2016 went on to become drafted players in the NFL. These numbers are woefully low compared to how the rest of the nation produces offensive linemen.
Defensive tackles: Elite defensive tackles hit at incredibly high rates and everyone else misses at incredibly high rates.
Defensive ends: (UPDATED 6/26/22) Nearly 40-percent of all four- and five-star defensive end prospects from 2002-2015 in the state of Texas were drafted by NFL teams. FORTY! This position has extremely high value.
Linebackers: (UPDATED 4/3) Big-time linebackers prospects from the state of Texas are generally disasters. Only three of the top 18 rated linebackers in the history of the Rivals rankings (2002-16) from the state of Texas have been drafted by NFL teams: Sergio Kindle, Keenan Robinson and Malik Jefferson.
Defensive Backs: Defensive backs from the top two recruiting tiers from Texas are typically worth their weight in gold, while the position as a whole performs very well against other positions. UPDATED IN 2022.
