Somehow, tech was favored over ranked isu despite being 0-8 in big 12 play.

And yet we solo sit in first place in the conference. Could we fall? Sure, but after 9 games in 1st.
I don’t know if we will win the conference but it’s obvious(not that it wasn’t at the times that 2300 Armageddon prediction was stupid.
we look pretty bad today. that's not an indictment, as i think all parties involved are efforting, but we look awful. some look more awful than. this happens in basketball. we're close enough to get back in it with a couple runs, but with the quick turnaround i'm not sure how you play it-- kill yourself trying to get back in it, or take your a$$ whipping if you can't make a run in the first five minutes and get angry for kansas. kansas, by the way, isn't playing well at all, but they could come out really, really angry too
They are playing their asses off in this 2nd half! Win or lose, this is another gutty performance.
tremendous performance by bishop especially in the 2nd half, but also rice. entire team really, and hats off to cunningham for kinda grinding his way to keeping us in it in the 1st. going into these 4 games we said we'd be pumped with 2-2; well, we're 2-1 so far.
Another big road win. I like the toughness this team is starting to show. We also missed a lot of layups and turned the ball over too much in the first half.
Some of you(really one of you) need to start getting your head around Rodney Terry as the full time HC. As of today I think he has the inside track
I’d pump the brakes on that. Let’s see what they do in the tournament first.
Notice I said “as of today”. If they lay an egg in the tournament then all bets are off. But right now I’d expect to see Rodney Terry on the sidelines in November
Mark Adans. Larry Coker. Ed Orgeron. The list of coaches that did well with the prior coach’s players and then were never able to sustain it is pretty long. GREAT win today. But be careful what you wish for.
Don’t disagree but the reality is if he wins the conference and makes a tournament run short of landing a legit star(Jay Wright) doesn’t make sense not to give him the job.
There really aren’t great candidates out there this year. I’d probably give him the job give him like a 3 year deal to start. You aren’t married to him at that point.
Few things though about your examples Cocker was 64-18 in 7 years at Miami not like that’s awful.
Mark Adams might be a good coach but sounds like his problem is he’s a grade A prick don’t think that’s the case with Terry.
Coach O kinda sounds like after the national title he kinda mailed it in. Again probably won’t be the case with Terry

I can assure you there are much better candidates out there other than Terry. He’s got a big enough sample size out there that shows he’s mediocre as a head coach. Barring an epic final 4 run I don’t see him being the guy.
Let’s not forget that Rodney Terry is an excellent recruiter. If he earns the job I don’t think we would have a drop off at all in recruiting. I think he’s going to have to get us into the Sweet 16 to lock up the permanent HC job. I would be ok with that.
No great candidates out there? Texas is the most profitable school in the country. Dump enough money and you will get a good one. So - who would you consider? Wright? Self? Pitino? Calipari? Few? Oates? There are alot of goods ones out there. You only need to find one that can be money whipped.
On your explanations - Coker started 24-1 with 20 first round draft picks (maybe a SLIGHT exaggeration). Take out the Butch Davis hangover, and he is 40-17. And got fired.
Mark Adams - went from 12-6 to 1-9 in the span of one year. I wouldn't call that good coaching.
Coach O - either he mailed it in, or the pipeline ran out. Or maybe he wasn't a good coach.
I give Coach Terry credit for holding the fort this year. But he has 10 other years of .500 basketball, including two "resignations", on his resume. If they go to the Final 4, you are probably right on him getting the job. But there are alot of other guys with better resumes out there. My 2 cents - Texas can (and should) do better.
He’s been mediocre at schools where you can only be mediocre at. Everyone thinks that every mid major can be Gonzaga or Villanova and that’s just not the case. What has Fresno Stare and UTEP done before or after Terry? Really non thing. Sometimes you need a legit opportunity to show what your able to do.
Are there “better candidates out there? Probably but how many are actually realistically getable? Probably not as many as you’d like to think.
I think what’s likely to happen is Terry will win 2-3 tournament games. He’ll get the job full time but Texas will sign him to a deal that doesn’t tie them to him, so if it does go bad they can get out fairly easily.
There are no great candidates out there that is correct.
Jay Wright- call him if you can get him great but I’m guessing it’s a no
Calipari I think you could get him but you’d have to pay him double what you’re paying Sark. Texas willing to do it? Probably not and I’m not sure he’s worth it anyway.

So then you’re left with the Mussleman, Pearls, Sean Millers of the world I wouldn’t consider them “great” I’d put them in the very good category. I think Miller is the most realistic achievable candidate, but he comes with is own issues. He’s not at Arizona due to NCAA issues. He was ultimately not penalized by the NCAA but can’t just ignore that.
So no it’s not a great year to be looking for a coach
Lincoln Riley wasn't a candidate for the USC job until he was.
So throw up your hands and give up, without making a call? Few just got his ass kicked by St. Mary's. He can see that his window to winning a natty is gone at Gonzaga.
Jay Wright - why did he quit Villanova? He could see the difficulty of staying relevant nationally at a small private like Villanova? Problem solved at UT.
Calipari - money shouldn't be an issue. (Although not my first choice).
As I said - you don't have to get all of them. Just one. Or you can go hire a career .500 coach and hope the previous two stops and 10 years were the anomoly.
But nobody could have won at the 2 schools where he was the hc. Now he has an opportunity to show what he can do.
I wish more people on here would enjoy what's happened to this team since the Beard dismissal.
Nobody is not enjoying the success of the team outside of maybe 2300. They are playing really good basketball right now. I’m just saying we have a 10 year sample size of what kind of coach Terry is. This season shouldn’t change your outlook of him as a coach unless he makes some kind of historic final 4 run.
Plenty of coaches that go to less fortunate mid major schools and have plenty of success. I just want CDC to do his due diligence at seasons end and pick up the phone and at least try to make a home run hire. That’s all I’m asking.
You are right there certainly could be a surprise out there. I don’t rule that out. I mean if you look at CDC’s past basketball hires at Texas and TCU he’s not afraid to make a big move, but I’m looking at the landscape as of right now and I don’t see a home run candidate that is achievable. Is it possible that Jay Wright retired but is waiting for a big job to open up? Of course. I don’t think that’s the case but it could be. Is it possible that Mark Few thinks he’s done all he can do at Gonzaga and is ready for the power 5? Yeah that’s possible. That doesn’t likely but stranger things have happened. I’m just looking at the landscape as it appears and there aren’t great candidates that right now appear getable. We will see in a few weeks
To be honest that’s why I thought Texas may try to let the Beard thing kinda blow over eventually put him back in the job, but it’s obvious they discovered some facts that made that not possible
