So..... what was this about, and what was the reply?

In the midst of a $#@!storm, Briles tweets out his resume. Good lord.

Not a bad advert, but the font choice is HORRIBLE.

#1 team for committing sexual assaults among power 5 schools for the last 5 years, unparalleled in the history of college football.

On a lighter note ... all 3 (2 convicted and one indicted) were on defensive side, and defense still sucked. Dicey character guys are never worth it.

Pure speculation on my part but here is what is going to get Baylor in trouble. Its sad to say but sexual assaults happen. I am a professor at a small private school and we have 2-3 happen a year. Sometimes it is two students on campus, sometimes it is two students off campus, and sometimes it is one student/one non student off campus. The instant it is reported the entire campus is notified about the basics. (a female student reported such and such happened at this dorm on Saturday morning at 2am.) At Baylor it seems like when these things happen it isn't reported. Two things could be happening. The handling of sexual assaults by campus officals is so poor that students don't report them. If that is true it opens up the university to lawsuits under title IX and it is a University as a whole problem. Number 2. The university does do the typical reporting unless it involves Football players. The university still has problems with Title IX but has also opened itself up to possible criminal wrongdoing. Baylor fan better hope its just #1.

Can we assume that you now see Briles for the POS he is that allowed this cultureto grow under his watch, and that he needs to go?
Not from anything stated in a plaintiff's petition. That's the last place I would look for accurate information. Although it looks like the plaintiff has Ian McCaw in its crosshairs. Fall guy anyone?

My religious beliefs tell me not to feel this way but when it comes to Ken Starr I don't care. If he's the one in the cross hairs who has to resign, if would be true poetic justice, at least for me.

Baylor has received a report from law firm Pepper Hamilton regarding their handling of sexual assault incidents.

The university has not yet decided whether they will make the report public. Board chairman Richard Willis said, "These deliberations are vital as we seek to preserve and reinforce trust in Baylor University. Thoroughly understanding the findings and acting on the recommendations to ensure the safety of all students are the board's highest priority." Pepper Hamilton was initially hired for consultation in September of 2015, after Sam Ukwuachu (a former player) was convicted of sexual assault. The Bears are facing a Title IX lawsuit from Jasmin Hernandez, who reported being raped by Tevin Elliott (also a former player) in 2012. She claims that she received little support from the university when she came forward with the allegation.

That was a news blurb on the new news.

My quick take. I don't know if this law firm was hired to give real info to help BU in potential upcoming legal battle.
Or if they were a "friendly" entity just hired to give a fluffy piece of paper to the higher ups so that no matter what happens they can say they did their due diligence. Saying "hey, we had a law firm look at this and they told us not to be worried". So if it goes to trial and they get blasted in court or by the public, they can act all shocked and try to use it to save their jobs.

One would think you'd be able to see this if/when they expose the public to it. If they don't make it public, that would lead me to believe that it is a real firm who was supposed to give an honest take to BU higher ups. And no matter if it is good or bad news....at that point I would keep it to myself. Because why make it public and help the girls lawyers out with some inside info on how BU may/may not/should defend themselves?

I gotta give you credit JSTO. Solid analysis. To your most important point - this report is subject to attorney client privilege. If there is any damaging information in the report, the administration would be crazy to release it to the public --- the potential damages in the pending trial could bankrupt the school. I have a feeling that we can figure out the results by a couple of indicators: (a) does anyone get fired, and if so, who? If its a low level type --- scape goat. The higher up the food chain, the more damaging the report. Even if not Briles, anyone close to him (director of recruiting who should be screening the backgrounds, the AD or Associate AD, etc.) would indicate an extremely damaging report. (b) the settlement discussions with the Plaintiffs will begin in earnest. The more damaging the information, the higher the settlement. But I highly doubt BU will ever release the results. Piece of advice to you kids - when making a gift to your school (large or small) - designate its use (i.e. business school, specific scholarship fund, etc.), don't give to the general university fund. It would p*ss me off to no end if any money I gave was being used to clean up this BS.

Baylor's web site still has pages devoted to promoting these rapists:
  • Rapist Tevin Elliot has 18 more years to serve, for 2 counts of sexual assault.
  • Rapist Sam Ukwuachu got off mysteriously lightly for 1 count of sexual assault, with felony probation, half a year in county jail, and 400 hours of community service.
  • Alleged rapist Shawn Oakman was arrested and released, and is under investigation by Waco PD.
Why would you still have pages devoted to promoting rapists???

ESPNs OTL show.....did a little more digging. And found some more junk. To sum it up, they found quite a few more cases involving other BU players......quite a bit of knowledge that staff knew about this stuff....police files that show school and police conspiracy to keep the info out of the public eye, even though this stuff is supposed to be open public record....and then they show how just about all of them got ZERO discipline from BU for their actions.

This just aired and was posted on their site an hour or so ago.

I've said before and while I don't have any concrete evidence if there is anyone close to Briles who could be involved in this my guess is dc Phil Bennett. Real simple he's an aggie. I noticed in this report that of the 6 other players listed that are not among the rape suspects, 4 of them are defensive players hmmmm..... Look PB played at a&m the same time I was a student, his best friend was my next door neighbor who also played at a&m. He was a real and from what I heard is still one he** of a nice guy. But when it comes to fb as far as aggies are concerned winning is worth anything as in n e thing. And after all the rape charges levied against Baylor players, how could Briles bring back Devin Chafin? Look marijuana posession is not as big a deal as it used to be but along with all the rape charges it looks bad, real bad that Briles has reinstated him. It's somewhat similar to Joe Mixon in that Devin Chafin is back on the team because of his potential value, he scored a lot of td's for Baylor last year. And like the Mixon case Baylor doesn't even need him the quality of their offensive recruiting the last few years means there is already someone better sitting on the bench. And as for Williams well I just got this gmail from my Baylor cousin just the other day. Williams just happened to be RG III's best pal on the team. Think that had something to do with him being reinstated? Could we be seeing a new hc at Baylor before Labor Day weekend?. There is a 12 step saying "more will be revealed" this story is far from over.

it is amazing that this is getting Zero traction in the news. Stories pop up and then they disappear. If this was UT , or OU....the fallout on this would be monumental.
From the BU perspective -- I have to disagree. Strongly. This thing won't go away. Drip Drip Drip. Seems like everyday someone is writing something.

really ? I have heart nothing to imply that Briles job is in jeopardy over this and it should be. A bunch of heads should roll over this and yet nothing from that school. That fan base is just happy they are winning and could care less what is happening to the women on campus down there.

ESPN just ran a national story.

Ken Starr should be sued into the poor house. Art Briles should be fired. Nothing has been done by that school. They're just waiting for it to blow over before football season begins.

so what you are telling me is that as of now...nothing has happened to the coach or anybody involved at the top ;)
I was merely responding to the comment "it is amazing that this is getting Zero traction in the news". You are correct that nothing has happened to the coach. Just waiting for "leaks" from the report submitted to trustees last Friday.

BTW - KTCK the Ticket in Dallas (which I have on in the office all day) just teased that they would be discussing at 5:10 today. Drip, drip, drip.

Sorry, but where there is smoke, there is fire. BU doing little to nothing doesn't help. And not getting out in front of it, instead always responding with status quo comments....just keeps the writers pissed off and looking. And when they keep finding new stuff, they also keep looking.

I agree with the first guys sentiments. Think how PSU was plastered on every newspaper. Now this isn't as sensational of a story...but that is what happens when you are a big boy. See Duke Lacrosse, that story was on the front of primetime ESPN every single day for over a month. With TV crews showing up at court dates and on and on. Even CNN and local news were running it. And that was lame Lacrosse.....but it was at least Duke.

BU gets a blurb now and then.....on a side show like OTL and then doesn't even get 1 second of comments in the prime time news show.

Feels like Baylor has about three options.

1) keep doing what they are doing. Nothing in reality, but pretending to take responsibility. This seems the most likely.

2) zero tolerance. Burn it down and be what they were before Briles.

3) embrace the thug rep. Let it be known they don't care, and they own the Waco PD. Could be like the U of the 80s. Every little prison want to be would love them. Although, I don't think sexual assault is well regarded in prison.
