CFB coach firings / hirings, 2018-19

You uh, want to essplain why you call yourself sodium acetate? In the concrete bidness?
Nah... just a really lame chemistry joke from junior high that I used for my first screen name... then kind of stuck with it for a few other platforms over the years.

It would have been silly to fire Clay Helton. I think it would do TT some good to go a different direction. You know pay attention to defense and the running game for once.

Clay's USC record is a product of Sam Darnold. Lynn Swann is going to learn that the hard way.

I think it was a good move. I think Texas was 4-7 the year before he came. They won 9 games the first 3 years and won 11 the 4th year. You Texas fans correct me if that’s wrong.

Recruiting Ricky Williams to stay for his Senior year was the key to that.

Apparently Brewer hates Fisher’s guts and he won’t be the only defection from that staff. Something about being browbeaten into 20-hour days and widespread cheating not being communicated beforehand.

If it comes out in the wash and is true about Fisher and a&m cheating, this will be fun to watch the meltdown in BCS. I still don't think Jimbo is all that great of a coach. If after 4 or 5 years, a&m wants to move on from Fisher, it will be entertaining to see them squirm, figuring out a way to fund the remainder of his contract.

Not to interrupt the discussion of the train wreck that is the Sodbuster coaching staff, but Paul Johnson is stepping down as head coach at Georgia Tech. I have a vested interest in the Ramblin' Wreck as my son is a freshman there. If you were GT AD, who do you pursue?

Wow, I missed that news. Good question. They should go full bore for Monken at Army, in my opinion.

I had a friend that worked in the athletics department when Jimbo was promoted in 2010 at FSU. Said the guy is so egotistical and everyone in the department grew to dislike him instantly. Heard former coaches not like working with him due to his control issues over every detail of the program and him getting jealous when players would credit their assistant coaches instead of him. Randy Sanders is an example of that.

He might be just that. Lynn Swann may have suspicions of the same. However, that would be a pretty chicken shit thing to do after the HC won a Rose Bowl and a Pac 12 title in the past three years. 2 good years out of 3 I think deserves a year 4 to see improvement.

Agree with MM.

However, if GT wants to move away from the flexbone/wishbone type offense this is my list (no order)

Brent Venables
Mike McIntyre
Matt Rhule
Seth Littrell
Josh Heupel

PJ did well at Tech he took GT to 2 Orange Bowls winning once. As far as being a coach at GT I would think living in a city like Atlanta for a few years would be a plus. But shouldn't they go a different direction from a triple option offense? I just don't know. I'll wager they will hire a coach with a southern background.

I think the reports are that GA Tech wants to move away from the Flexbone. It also appears as the Synder is stepping down, Robinson will be the DC at UNC and Kingsbury is a heavy favorite to be the OC at USC.

If GT tries to hire a spread guy, it is going to be a rough transition...like really bad IMO. But I've been wrong many times, lol.

Who in the world is KState going to look at? Maybe go the route of Tech and get a successful mid-major coach? Maybe look at Mike McIntyre...the guy won 11 games at San Jose St. for goodness sakes.

I thought KK to USC was a done deal?

For all of KK's struggles as a head coach, that dude can flat out coach offense. And you give him the resources and the talent of a USC and that could get dangerous. If Helton can make sure that Kliff doesn't take all of the scholarships put them on the offensive side of the ball!

Football scoop is reporting that it isn't as done as some in the media are saying. Shefter is reporting that GA Tech is interviewing Ken Whisenhunt

Yeah if they go Whisenhunt next year is going to be brutal for them.

Yeah. Whisenhunt brings some lineage with him but damn it's hard to recruit against Georgia and "Bama. Basically you've got Stanford academic standards with a lot less investment in the program. Still, there are a lot worse places to work than Atlanta. Personally I think their best chance to compete is to keep working that triple option offense. Most teams only encounter it once a year at most and it plays havoc with their defensive preparation. You can also run it with the mid-tier athletes that GT seems to get the most out of....

Everything you just said. Moving away from the flexbone would be a bad, bad idea, IMO.

I think TT made the right kind of hire. For the first time since Spike Dykes walked the sidelines defense and the running game will finally matter again. And from what I've read they have, at least by their standards, a good recruiting class. If Matt Wells can add on to it by signing day he's off to a good start.

I haven't kept up with the ins and outs of their recruiting but I think in the last few days I have seen 3 on twitter decommit

Why would those kids leave without talking to their new coach? That's strange
