Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (About the other guy...)

It's the question that defines this season.
Watching Card against WV at the end of the season gave me hope for him going forward. Whether at TX or elsewhere. You could see the talent he has and played less uptight and let loose a little. Of course then he turned his ankle! Lovely.

We may need all of the QBs against Bama and that defense. Just hoping they can hang in there. That is an Ark. game times 10!

In regards to this, @Ketchum :

B/S: You’ve actually interviewed people for Dustin’s baseball job.

B/S: Texas is a baseball school.

(Buy) I've probably interviewed 20 people in the last 7 months and roughly a half-dozen in the last week. I'm hoping to have our plans announced in the next few days after a few follow up conversations.

(Sell) If Texas was a baseball school, the majority of our content and discussion would be focused on it because the Orangebloods audience would demand it.

Is there really any school that is a baseball school? Where folks care more for baseball than basketball and football?

Agree with you on Hudson Card. So many gave up on him so easily. I just hope he has not given up on himself.

If he can pull a Colt McCoy and fight through the adversity he could still turn out to be a darn good college QB. If Ewers gets injured (I agree he gets the starting job) Card could come in and really increase his stock and springboard to an NFL career still. It may not be at UT but could still be a successful career.
Joe Burrow had to transfer also…
a few other QB’s also.

Is there another site out there that offers better baseball coverage for TX? Not trying to be a jerk as i don't really follow baseball but was wondering if some other site did?
Certainly not anything better than OB with Dustin’s work in years past.
I don’t know the answer because of the quality and work product in years past.

Card played a nice game against ULaLa, throwing darts. Not sure what happened after.
He actually played well in his first and last games.

I see the possibility of a QB controversy before I see Ewers thriving early on--hope that I am wrong.

Momma always said young quarterbacks would have days like this.

You don't quit on young players with that much talent.
Did Sark ever say or imply that he's actually given up on Card or is that just a big assumption on your part? We all know that he went after Ewers when he hit the Portal and that he said the QB competition will be open this spring. Those are actions that any coach with half a brain would have taken, given the on the field performance of the QB room last year. Without a doubt, Ewers has a decided advantage in the upcoming competition, but there is no such thing as a sure thing in sports. Bottom line is if Card is not good enough to clearly win the battle against a guy with 0 experience after a full year in the system, that's not on Sark.

Maybe some smaller schools and lower division schools. Heck some of the lower division do not even have football. But, I can't think of any big'ish school that would be considered a "baseball school".

I don’t understand the zero interest in Winter Olympics. Maybe it’s people who do winter sports, but we’ve had them on every single night. Sort of background, but definitely watching curling, slopestyle, skiing, etc.

Damn @Armadillo Slim entered the University the same year. @mikemc69 had already graduated.

That’s what she said.
Drunk. Someone had to hold up the bar at Scholz's beer garden.

You and the rest of the crew weren't born yet.

Duqu would probably have qualified but the problem is we couldn't get him out of the Dakotas....... He kept mumbling something about gold and naked women.

Her Dad (ketch)should have taught her how to run bases to score and where the ball is supposed to go.
Someone’s Dad has some work to do and try not blaming or pointing to coaches unless he is one of the coaches. Dad needs to show up for practice and not watch but get out there and help at practice and at home.
It always surprised me how many parents thought if they dropped them off or just sat and watched practice but didn’t work on skills at home were normally the most disgruntled faction who never understood who was really responsible for their own child’s athletic development.
You have some work to do as a dad.

I agree. It is my responsibility.

We've gone to the park on multiple occasions to practice various elements of her beginning as a player.... throwing, catching, hitting, etc... However, the weather, along with a host of other reasons/excuses, hasn't allowed us to cover...wait for it... all of the bases.

She's got some of the hard stuff down, but we've probably spent too much time on working on her swing that we missed a few things that were evident in the dress rehearsal from a week out.

It always surprises me how many people on this site thing they know what the **** they are talking about and don't.

Have a blessed day/

It's too bad he got injured.

You're 100-percent right. Probably not.

I’m not really sure we need help recruiting Westlake kids…but we can sure use help recruiting Arch Manning. If Cutcliffe puts us over the top in that recruitment, you make it happen if at all possible.
We have done well at Westlake, yes, but over confidence is still a fault.

We used to have a pipeline into North Shore but not anymore. And who said we can hire only one of Cutcliffe or Dodge?

There's more than one recruit we need, and we might not get him not matter who we hire.

Our last NC team had a great QB but we were also fully stocked throughout the roster.

Last time I looked, Vasek, Greathouse and Shanahan haven't committed yet.

Cade Klubnik signed with Clemson. You can say we had no chance for him, but you really don't know.

One guy is a Herman guy and the other guys is now a Sark guy. The confirmation bias will be real.

Yeah back before I got big into snowboarding and winter sports, I only maybe followed a couple events, but now I love many of them. If you’re not a winter sports participant and many in Texas probably aren’t, then it probably affects your desire to watch them.

She really did hit the ball hard off of the other team's pitcher, who was the best player on the field.

She has no ability to appreciate that she did the really hard thing. All she knows is that everyone yelled at her and she didn't know what to do. 😂
You may have to make a report on your daughters progress a weekly feature :). Certainly enjoyed reading that little blurb.

I’m picking on her dad. The first scrimmages always expose things we take for granted and being first born they don’t have a role model practice with them and teach those little things and hanging out at games.
Moms are the most awesome with personality transformations as they turn into Mommy Bears. I was able to just ask them to work on different things at home and the positive majority would buy in and see a transformation in their children.
Have fun be positive and watch their self confidence grow. And make a big deal of everything they do right.

@Ketchum some excellent work w/ the scholarship board! A couple notes on classifications and “(RS)” designations:

Neyor and Liebrock are RS-JR (2019); not RS-SO

Whittington, Liebrock, Hookfin, Warren & Gbenda (all 2019) and Jones, Angilau, Coburn, Ojomo & Richardson (all 2018) should have a “(RS)” next to their name.

The “Super Seniors” are Oghoufu, Overshown, Jamison & Cook.

This really is a great resource.

Don’t you think Robertson/Hutson both profile as OC prospects?

Sam E. wasn’t a junkyard dog?
Maybe I don't understand the term junkyard dog. Sam was tenacious and a team-first player. We was a mediocre quarterback and middling at best passer. He ran too often and too aggressively, resulting in more injuries than a one quarterback team can afford. However, he was never held to account for any of this by the Herman regime. Hence, he never had to face the football adversity of having his team and coaches lose faith in him. Card, on the other hand, faces precisely that, plus a loss of confidence in himself as a quarterback and as a leader. Enter the junkyard dog. If he has the dog in him, he will fight his ass off to regain his confidence and the faith of his team and coaches. That's an enormous ask of a suburban kid who's never faced that sort of adversity before in his short life. While I wish him the best and hope that he works and succeeds, I see no evidence in his past to suggest that he will do either.

Yet another reason for that ship to grow!
And he obviously has not met some of the some of the suburban teenagers I've met.

I can tell you right now some of those suburban teenagers damn sure have some junkyard dog in them.

I served with some of them

Sam faced adversity far worse than Hudson before he hit campus and he stood up pretty damn well as I recall.

And the reason he wasn't held to account was because he did a damn good job at what he was doing.

You applaud him for being tenacious and being a team first player yet you are calling him mediocre. That's a misnomer in terms.

And despite your opinion I'll tell you right now Sam would never have folded the way Hudson did. He might not have won that Arkansas game but he wouldn't have buckled in that way

I do agree with that, as well as an NIL bias for lack of better words.

It's actually because of that bias that it might become a controversy in the first place. (Card might be the better choice, early on especially.)

Card got rattled in that game and lost his poise. He can get it back but it will take guts.
