Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (D-Tackle mess is years in the making)

You didn't answer my question.

Sorry ketch. I thought my comments answered your question.

Let me be specific. No, I have never heard you discuss the Cowboys. Not in person. You are correct. I have never had the pleasure of pmeeting you.

However , I have been reading your '10 thoughts" for years. There can be no doubt that you have spent FAR more time discussing the Cowboys than the Texans.

Reading over the years consistently shows a MUCH greater focus on the Cowboys than the Texans.

I also get the strong sense that the comments on the Texans are afterthoughts. Then the comments in today's 10 thoughts just cemented that view.

So, I believe my comments still stand.

I am just asking you to recognize that not everybody cares about the Cowboys. If you are going to talk so much about them or focus so much on them each week on a site dedicated to the Longhorns, please try at least to give equal time to the Texans. Maybe, every once in a while you can talk about them first instead of just as an afterthought.

Some honest introspection would really be appreciated.

Ketch i enjoy your 10 thoughts & i enjoy this site a lot but there is no doubt you are a cowboy lover. Last year you were always talking about how great they were. You put the Texans down every chance you get. Of course this year you can't say to many good things as they suck & that is great as i hate the cowboys with a passion. I will say my hate for the cowboys probably clouds my thoughts on what you write.
Probably?;)

Once again. he said NOT better than fourth!
Wackohorn said:
No, the Buy was "better than fourth", which would be third. He agreed we would be fourth, not better than fourth.

HornEsch said:
Nope! Last time I checked "being" fourth is not "better than" fourth.

I think you just made my point for me. He said NOT better than fourth & Ketch said fourth. Fourth is "not better than fourth". Therefore Ketch agreed. Therefore it is a buy.

Ketch changed it to a buy, so there is that...

a. My point is that you've tried to paint me as some sort of Cowboys homer when you'll find that I'm as reasonable and realistic as anyone can be with their team. I always assume the worst with Dallas.. always. If you've read me talk about the Cowboys, you'd have to know that.

b. I spend time talking more about the Cowboys than the Texans for two reasons. First, more people care about the Cowboys. You don't have to like it, but it's the truth. Second, I do care more about Dallas than the Texans and I write about things I care about. I do try to write about the Texans in an effort to please the Texans. I write about how great JJ Watt is. Same with Deandre Hopkins, who I have said all season is a better player than Dez Bryant.

c. The Texans aren't really all that good, they just play on the right division that is rewarding average play. There's no getting around that. I don't know that I find their season all that interesting and there's a good chance that they are one and done as soon as the playoffs start. Regardless, this is not a true Super Bowl contending team, which means I can only write the same thing about this team so many times.

d. You're complaining about how much love I give Dallas, but I barely mentioned the team this week other than a slam about how boring its game was. You might not have liked what I wrote, but I gave the Texans an entire section and did not do that for the Cowboys.

Your emotions on this subject have clouded that gigantic piece of irony.

"Maybe, every once in a while you can talk about them first instead of just as an afterthought."

What Dallas was this weekend was an afterthought... what Houston received was some focus for an entire section. It just so happens that THE story right now is the play of a Dallas castoff at quarterback.

e. Some honest introspection would really be appreciated, indeed.

You think he starts the first game of next season as a true freshman in Charlie Strong's most critical opener as a coach?

Yes. That's the state of our QB depth chart. We have an OC who needs a guy who can throw the ball. It's my thought that Buechele will be the best passer. It could also be argued that continuing to start Swoopes and/or Heard could get you fired for sure at Texas. These guys just aren't very good at throwing the ball. Plus, Buechele isn't rolling in here in the summer. He is coming in January and learning a new offense at the same time as Heard and Swoopes.

It might be that no matter what Strong does at quarterback, he loses.

You are probably right. Strong just has to pray that Gilbert can get one of these guys up to speed fast enough and score enough points to get him to 9 wins. It's a tall order.

OK. I can't argue with a lot of what you said, including your statement " I do care more about Dallas than the Texans".
At this point, there's not much more to say. Personally, your bias is evident and I guess you are entitled to it, even though it irritates me immensely when it shows so clearly.

You ignored the parts where the Texans received its own section and the Cowboys didn't this week. Oh, the irony...

People have been saying that Texas is trending upward with Louisiana DT Stephon Taylor? Wasn't there word s few months ago that he was a package deal with his DE teammate Sci Martin? Would love clarification and thanks

Ok I see you don't want to let go of this.
So, here goes:
You are pointing out the 'irony' of my complaining when the Texans got their own section and the Cowboys didn't.

The fact that you point it out for this week as special reinforces the point that this hardly ever happens. You also go on a long apocalyptic rant rant about how the universe is defying its own laws because Weeden is 2-0 with the Texans, suggesting that there is NO WAY the Texans could effectively use someone like Weeden when the Cowboys couldn't. It COULDN'T POSSIBLY BE that the Texan coaching staff could come up with a game plan that could work with him (even though they have been doing this all season with 4 different QBs). I guess if the Cowboys can't do it no one can, so it must be un-natural.

You also suggest there is nothing of particular interest to you about the Texans this season.
I can only imagine that if the Cowboys started out 2-5 and then went 6-2 (maybe 7-2 after this Sunday, ) for the remainder of the season, there would be hosannas and hallelujahs emanating from the Cowboy fans. I really believe you would find than kind of turnaround story very compelling. We would be hearing about it a bunch from Cowboys training facility, the intergalactic headquarters of empty arrogance.

Anyway, thanks for allowing me this forum. I still ask for a little introspection and a touch more consideration of Texans fans.

In any event I will always bleed orange and, for the most part, really enjoy the work you do. I guess on this topic, we will have to agree to disagree.

Hook 'Em!

There's no sense of urgency in so many of his decisions.

This sentence sums up sooo much about Charlie. It seems that it has to be one of two things:

1. He has been assured of at least a 4th year regardless of the results next year. If this is true then it means the powers that be are convinced there was no way to get this right in a shorter term. (I vehemently disagree with this if true)

2. He simply isn't aware of the dire need to find the right player or has no clue how to go about it.

Either option sucks for us...

a. I would be careful with getting overly excited with leanings from La. kids in December.
b. Packaged deals rarely work out.

Charlie knows he's coaching for his career next year, regardless of what he's been told.

Based on @Ketchum's Oscar list I can only assume he hasn't seen The Big Short. Just saw it and Ho Lee Phuk was it an outstanding movie
