Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (D-Tackle mess is years in the making)

Ketch, your comments on Weeden make you sound like a brain dead Cowboy fan...the type that are despised by almost everyone in Houston.
The reason Weeden has succeeded so far can be summed up in one word: Coaching!
There is no excuse, but only one possible explanation for Cowboy fans: Bad parenting.

I just realized I got Shane's sisters phone number about 6 years ago at a bar in clear lake while she was on break from OU volleyball. So I'd like to think I had something to do with Shane's commitment. Or at least that's what I'll tell myself.

(cough) Bullshit. I think you should post a picture of yourself from 6 years ago; so, I can laugh hysterically at how full of shit you are.

I'd rather know about UT women's volleyball than European soccer. I bet that OB would poll the same, provided you didn't poison the well with a title using the word "soccer" in it. There are probably 250 people on OB who care, and 49,000 who glaze over when they read "soccer".
And yet I get probably 10X the response and requests for the soccer than I do for volleyball. Not everything in the column is for everyone. When I read Peter King on Mondays, there are things I skip. I never assume that my tastes are THE tastes for everyone that reads the article.

How does one call Kirk Cousins "fool's gold'" and describe Brandon Weeden's play as a "fairly legitimate" in the same column?

I think FSU hammers UH and tOSU does likewise to Domer.
a. Pretty easily. Cousins is fool's gold and Weeden has been almost faily legit in the last six or seven quarters. He's a bum that has been ok the last two games.

b. FSU no-shows IMO. Notre Dame has played a better brand of football over Ohio State all season IMO.

Best write up on recruiting in a while. Nice job.

Agree with your opinion on the movie Joy. Jennifer Lawrence was incredible. The rest of the main actors stunk, IMO. Movie was ok. I have yet to see Room.
Sicario has my vote for best pic.

"....who was only recently offered the day before he committed to Oklahoma."

Classic Strong era quote.

Chuck has to land something like 13 players this month so he'll benefit by the perception of recruiting momentum if not the reality.

Only team in the nation with two OLs on the Freshmen All-American team.

Missed timed....he should have recruited 12 lineman year 1...what excuse could he have had? He couldve and shouldve known the OL and DL only had 2 maybe 3 players on entire team. Rest are jags....that we realized 1 or 2 years later means what? Missed timed.

And yet so many on here think a new OC is our savior.

The Strong failure will haunt us well after he's gone.

And yet I get probably 10X the responses and requests for the soccer than I do for volleyball.

I lied. More like 7%

So, 70% of subscribers want soccer coverage? That would mean that every single guy in the State of Texas, who cares about soccer, asked for more coverage on OB. There are only like 1400 straight men in Texas who care about soccer. It's statistically improbable at best.

I'm just busting your balls. I had way too many complaints about the kindler, gentler, holiday season, network television version of me. If I get a timeout, then @nuufaola and @sflonghorngirl should receive one, as well, by proxy.

Your quote is the story of Strong's tenure at Texas.

"I don't see how <insert subject> is Strong's fault."

Of course it's not Strong's fault. The source of the ills with the program has to do with everything around Strong except him.. Recruits are flakey, we've fired the athletic director, we've blamed Mack Brown, we've kicked off inherited players, we've trashed the inherited players that remained, we've fired assistant coaches, the schedule was too difficult, etc. I think the band and maybe when the new Bevo arrives will be the last remaining pieces of the program that are left to blame.

Well, I figured that someone would respond to my post about one specific situation by summoning an army of straw men to recite the Hooplehead Creed. If you have any evidence that Henderson decommitted because of Charlie Strong, please share with the class. I'd be equally intrigued to see all these posts where I have decreed that Nothing is Charlie Strong's Fault. Now please tell us how Strong, as Chief Financial Officer of this university, lowballed Sterlin Gilbert.

- You didn't mention this, but remember when we thought Aaron Rodgers was the baddest man on the planet?

Why it seems just like yesterday that folks were talking up Aaron Rogers and Mother Teresa in the same breath. I'd ask Mother Theresa what has she done for me lately, but I can't.

No problem.

1. Rodgers
2. Newton
3. Brady
4. Brees
5. Big Ben
6. Palmer
7. Russell Wilson
8. Romo
9. Luck
10. Rivers
11. Bridgewater
12. Dalton
13. Alex Smith
14. Matt Ryan
14. Derek Carr
15. Eli
16. Bortles
17. Cutler
18. Mariota
19. Winston
20. Stafford

This team will get more attention in the coming months, but I just couldn't force myself to watch Sam Houston State today.

Understand completely. The new record is the part that surprised me - especially with all the success Jody had back in the day.

Dude, you know how the world would be a better place if the dangerous jerk driver could get pulled over and get his ass whipped? Well, OB would be much more entertaining if you didn't humor these types. Instead, you should just tell them to suck a dick, unless they are complaining about soccer reporting. In that case, you should listen to them.
:)

my only comment on DT. . ..Roach grows into DT. . .kid is 255 now. . . .and I suspect like Lamarr Houston (who came to us as a RB/DE) or Ridgeway (DE) . .he'll be a good one.

Doesn't change the overall point and nice summation.
Certainly possible, just doesn't help this year.

I think there's no real debate amongst the first 10-12 on the list. I do think you, and you likely would even have to admit, that the rest of your list, or a lot of it, is simply throwing names on the wall to reach 15.

I think Fournette is going to run for 300 against Tech. I don't think that's a stretch considering Warren went for 276.
Tech has allowed 4 backs to rush for 200+ this season.

Fournette runs for a billion.

Not hardly. There's a reason I went 20 deep.

Deniro bothered the hell out of me the entire movie. Russell's decision in directing this movie were confusing.

Overriding negativity?

I'm sorry I don't pretend with you guys for the sake of pretending.

Meant to say that you seem to be more positive than usual and it was appreciated during this holiday season. There are always shades of leaning one way or another. Could have stated it better.

OK. Your final 9 are:
13. Alex Smith
14. Matt Ryan
14. Derek Carr
15. Eli
16. Bortles
17. Cutler
18. Mariota
19. Winston
20. Stafford

I'd say at this point that the young guys such as Carr, Bortles, Mariota and Winston are no better than Cousins. Eli is getting ready to pass age 35. Smith has been no more than solid at best his entire career. Cutler? Come on man. So yes, you were throwing names up against the wall much of that back half.

I wonder whether people are right to assume that a DL recruit should be drooling to start as a true freshman. Of course a WR would be but that's a different story. Is it crazy to think that some of the DT recruits view the fact that UT would be relying upon them to perform almost from day 1 as a minus not a plus?
I think most would really like the prospect of early playing time.

Your math is wrong. I said 10X as many respond to the random thoughts on soccer vs. volleyball. I did not indicate that I was talking about 70-percent of the subscriber base.

- Texas will not bring in another QB, so the battle is really going to be between Jerrod Heard and Shane Buechele in my opinion.
We dem boys on this one, Anwar. IMO, there's no way Strong lets his tenure end (which will happen after this year without much improved QB play) without his only potentially program changing recruit getting an opportunity, unless Heard just really turns the light switch on and he tries to save SB's redshirt. Also, if Gilbert feels like his offense can't run effectively without someone with SB's skill set, they have to give him a chance. It's not gonna be Swoopes.

- You didn't mention this, but remember when Ketchum thought Aaron Rodgers was the baddest man on the planet?
FIFY. Aaron Rodgers can go smooch a man sprinkler.

I don't even know how to process what's happened there.

I don't go out of my way to be negative. There's just not always a ton of positive stuff to write about.

And exactly zero people made a request for coverage until they made the Final Four, so be careful with your spot on Hypocrite Island.

Seriously, the moment people start to act like they care for that type of coverage, we;ll focus on it. Our dara shows that about 10-percent of you care.
I understand your reasoning but you should look up the definition of hypocrite.

Great writing.

I see crack is making a comeback.
My sentiments exactly on European soccer. I thought that this was a UT forum not the EU.
