Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (D-Tackle mess is years in the making)

A little to quick on the QB situation! Until these QBs actually have a Coach worth a s$&t to coach them up, how do we know what the hell is on the roster. And the last time I looked Ketch and writers were exactly that and not coaches. Same with DT's. Hell who knows who is going to be their coach each year. They leave as fast as they get here.
k

You think he starts the first game of next season as a true freshman in Charlie Strong's most critical opener as a coach?

Can you imagine this place if that happens and inevitably fails harshly and publicly?

Ford is consistently underrated around here, imo. Dude has a lot of potential, just needs to gain some consistency. He won a lot of one on one battles this year
You just answered your own question.

And what happened with Volleyball. A Texas team plays for a national championship and there is no coverage. Have fun explaining this to your daughter when she is a teenager.
And exactly zero people made a request for coverage until they made the Final Four, so be careful with your spot on Hypocrite Island.

Seriously, the moment people start to act like they care for that type of coverage, we;ll focus on it. Our dara shows that about 10-percent of you care.

First of all I'm not a fan of Weeden but looking at his performance I'm not too surprised. He is playing with a team with a great head coach and has some good players around him. I wouldn't put the last two teams he was with in that category. While Dallas has a fairly good team they lost DeMarco Murray which basically took away their running threat. Then they lost Bryant to injury but the real difference is O'Brien. He is a great QB coach and when you combine a halfway descent QB with him then you have opportunities. You could see the Texans making progress as the year went on under O'Brien and now they have confidence when they hit the field. Something they never had in the previous years.
Folks trying to spin Weeden's performance in two games as something more significant than the rest of his sample size is the best part of this thread.

10% of people care about volleyball coverage? Certainly that's a typo.

I imagine you will be quite excited.

For all of his faults, I don't think Charlie Strong is clueless enough to start a true freshman in a career trajectory-defining game. Give the guy some credit.

I'm not necessarily arguing he's a franchise QB but hard to think that at least some of the anti-Cousins sentiment (odd to say the least) is due to those who somehow cling to the notion that Colt deserves(d) a shot there in DC. In Foles' best season he had LeSean McCoy and a in-his-prime Desean Jackson. Cousins has no running game and his top target is a f'n TE. Cousins has been asked to carry a HELLUA lot bigger load than Foals and he's managed a QB rating of 99 which is better than Cam Newton and Aaron Rodgers. I mean, at some point, he does deserve some credit.
I gave him credit. I called him this year's Nick Foles.

I can name at least 15 quarterbacks I'd rather have, so I'm glad those in Washington might go nuts and give him a big deal.

Should have seen this earlier.

Still quoting players' recruiting grades rather than their production in college. Like Rivals' grades should remain an accurate standard of measure of the quality of a player for the remainder of his career.

Should be obvious how flawed those recruiting grades are by now as a prognosticator of a player's future. I suppose you have to sell them because it's a large part of what Rivals does.

Check out OU's DTs on the linked depth chart. Only one four star among the five DTs listed, backup Jordan Wade. Let's devote an article to how poorly OU has recruited DTs, and how disastrous the results have been.

I'm usually the last one to be critical of "negativity", because it often requires analysis of some kind, and I don't think there is enough of that, in general. But Geoff, you've clearly gone over to the negative side, and I don't think your take is as objective, or as good, as it used to be. It just kind of blends in with the rest of your audience, IMO.
Your post is completely misguided and it probably has to do with the fact that you went looking for something to complain about.

Nowhere in the article is a central theme old recruiting rankings. They are only mentioned in proper context, which is that lower rated recruits pan out at a lower rate that highly ranked recruits. That's not an opinion, that's math.

Let's keep it somewhat real... given the lack of merit in your post... are you really the last one to be critical of negativity?

Hell, how was I negative? Is that what you call telling the truth and explaining the situation?

Enjoyed your writing and lack of your usual overriding negativity. Good analysis and some great sounding Christmas presents. Jackets lookin' good. May God bless us all with a happy new year! I appreciate your social consciousness btw. Don't listen to your critics on that score.
Overriding negativity?

I'm sorry I don't pretend with you guys for the sake of pretending.

Or it could be coaching/system. I still believe 90%+ of the Cowboys problems are self-inflicted, and just about all of them lead directly or indirectly to Jerrah.
Or it could be an incredibly small sample-size. This Weeden stuff is killing me today.

Dude, you know how the world would be a better place if the dangerous jerk driver could get pulled over and get his ass whipped? Well, OB would be much more entertaining if you didn't humor these types. Instead, you should just tell them to suck a dick, unless they are complaining about soccer reporting. In that case, you should listen to them.

my only comment on DT. . ..Roach grows into DT. . .kid is 255 now. . . .and I suspect like Lamarr Houston (who came to us as a RB/DE) or Ridgeway (DE) . .he'll be a good one.

Doesn't change the overall point and nice summation.

Yep. FWIW, he's a list of DT recruits going back to '06.

Brian Ellis - He was projected to move inside from his DE spot so I'm putting him on this list. Miss
Lamarr Houston - Truth is, he only got moved inside starting his 3rd year because Muschamp was desperate for a second DT body when he arrived in spring of '08. Big hit.
Alexander - One can argue he reached his ceiling. One can also argue his ceiling was never very high.
Higgins - Late commit who Mack took a head-scratching flyer on. Said head-scratching proved prophetic.
A. Jones - we all how that tragic tale ended.
Wilcoxon - head-scratching early offer. Said head-scratchign proved prophetic.
Humphrey - @Ketchum alluded to his issue.
Randall - Thankfully we got him away from LSU. Not an elite player but qualifies as a hit. Compared to damn near the rest of the DT recruits in this time period he's damn near an AA.
Howell - Came in flapping his gums. Unfortunately that's about all he accomplished. Mix of low motor and concussions. Miss.
Derek Johnson - GF got pregnant. Miss.
Kriegel - Projected to move inside. Head-scratching offer 12 months before signing day. Said head-scratching proved prophetic.
Bible - Loved food too much. Miss.
Cotton - Did he ever even play? Miss.
Dorsey - Hit, relatively, I guess?
Jackson - At least we got 5 years out of him.
Russell - again, see @Ketchum
Boyette - Decent. Granted, his real payoff hopefully is 18-20 years when hopefully he and his wife will have had a son who matriculates to Texas.
Brown - Big hit.
Norman - miss
Ridgeway - Hit albeit with stretches of miss. But sh*t, would be nice to have back.
Moore - JUCO miss.
'13 Class - Missed out on Robinson and Billings.
Poona and Nelson - Jurry still out somewhat. Although certainly valid questions of ceiling height can be raised.
Lampkin - No esta aqui.

F*ck, that's a lot of ugly. I wonder if we might see a guy or 2 rotting away on the OL depth chart asked to transition over to DT out of desperation.
If I had posted that, I'd be called too negative by some.;)

BUY or SELL: Losing Ridgeway and Raulerson will cost us around one win apiece next year?

(Sell) But not recruiting another quarterback to compete with Heard and Swoopes might do the trick.

I don't see how this won't cost us a game or two along the way. Not being able to consistently stop the run and our lack of depth among the offensive line. Do you trust that our DL will be able to stop a team late in 4th and then a critical game winning drive? @Ketchum
No, there are definitely trust issues, but I think the games I think they'll lose at this point won't be greatly impacted by one or two players.

honestly, @mln59 did yeoman's work in that department all year. Maybe just toss the man a comp and pin his game posts. Problem solved.

All joking aside does it make you question the coaching of Garrett? I mean you have the best offensive line in the league, a HOF tight end, and a top 5 receiver and your offense is that bad?

I've never really seen your opinion of Garrett so I'm not sure where you stand with him.
I've always questioned Garrett. He's not an elite coach.

I just realized I got Shane's sisters phone number about 6 years ago at a bar in clear lake while she was on break from OU volleyball. So I'd like to think I had something to do with Shane's commitment. Or at least that's what I'll tell myself.

I wonder whether people are right to assume that a DL recruit should be drooling to start as a true freshman. Of course a WR would be but that's a different story. Is it crazy to think that some of the DT recruits view the fact that UT would be relying upon them to perform almost from day 1 as a minus not a plus?

- Texas will not bring in another QB, so the battle is really going to be between Jerrod Heard and Shane Buechele in my opinion.

- Houston over FSU? I'll bet you lunch at Plucker's FSU wins.

- Hard for Carolina to get jacked up emotionally every week. I think they will be fine when the playoffs begin.

- Houston better not let the opportunity to get a franchise QB allude them again in the offseason. Weeden is fools gold.

- I'm drafting Antonio Brown, Julio Jones or OBJ in the first round of next year's fantasy draft.

- You didn't mention this, but remember when we thought Aaron Rodgers was the baddest man on the planet?
a. Not adding a quarterback might just seal Strong's fate.

b. FSU hasn't been playing at a high level all season and they are down a quarterback. Houston is going to score points.

c. I think Carolina is running out of steam.

d. I thought I was safe drafting Dez. F me.
