Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend: (Does Sark need to sit Ewers?_

If you would have told me we would be 6-1 and thinking about benching Quinn, I wouldn’t have believed it.

I do think if Sark is going to make the switch, tomorrow would be ideal. Give Arch Vandy and the open week as QB1. He won’t look back!
It's not going to happen. He'll go with Quinn.

@Ketchum trying to figure out how to best articulate this thought about highs and lows of a season that I’d like your comments on, so bear with me.

All the hype, talk, polls, mentality of the fans are all behind the curve a little when it comes to recruiting, conference championships and ultimately national championships.

What I mean by that is that mentality the collective college football universe outside of those that are in it are still in the BCS/four team playoff and old conference alignment sense of urgency. Where every loss still feels like life and death in this sport.

In reality there has been a paradigm shift in how recruits view a programs success, how programs can rebound, and that these games will no longer be “games of the century”, but the norm. Fans and pundits alike will start to frame their conversations about the teams and who is a success much differently over the coming years.

Would you agree that we still frame wins and losses in the old way, and that will shift significantly over the coming seasons, or have we already made the transition?

I agree on all your points on Quinn. I think he is definitely off. I also think Sarks gameplay was flat out beat by Kirby's defense. Pass, Run, even the 2H adjustment Sark made was further adjusted by Kirby. What should/could Sark have done differently earlier to adjust? It was like Georgia knew what play we were going to run. Felt like OU game during Mack/Davis early years.
We did nothing new, and Kirby’s team was very disciplined on all our presnap motions in the screen game. Once that was shut down, along without being able to get the edge with speed our game was done.

Texas needs to get a OT in the portal if both starters leave this year. Also they need a RB and P in the portal. They better take it one game at a time and figure things out on offense ASAP.

Saturday at Vandy is about as big as it gets for Quinn. Here’s hoping he comes out hot and we blow the doors off of them.

If we find ourselves in a tight game at half time because he’s completing less than 50% and turned the ball over, I think Sark will turn the page for good.

Ewers was mentally shook in the first half. It could be because it was the first time the left side of the line left him completely hanging and he got lit up. It could be because he’s still hurt. Whatever it could be doesn’t matter. It could be because UGA was flying all over the place. But he’s got to play significantly better.

The game reminded me of Nebraska and Suh just dismantling our offense in the Big 12 title game. Made Colt look he had never taken a snap.

Was a massive failure from the offensive side of the ball. Sark and Quinn wear the blame. Just don’t think we should fool ourselves in to thinking the O-line and WR’s didn’t get soundly whipped either. It was bad. Hopefully a wake up call.

I have loved this column for a long time, but damn, this one was incredible @Ketchum

The Morgan Freeman list was NAILZ! You had the Big 3 (DMD, MDB, TSR) all in there - I didn't care what place you put them in. And that insta post about the dogs - all the feelz - I think its important for our media to remind us to be good/better humans, especially heading into an election season.

Respectfully, fvck that. This is the guy who lacks institutional control with consistently allowing his players to drive around town doubling speed limits all the while he is shoving opposing teams players on the sideline? Hahahahah fvck that Ketch.

Yeah Kirby can't say a thing. Look in the mirror dude.

I’m just saying Kirby is the absolute last guy that should be allowed to be upset about water bottles lol. His kids will end up killing somebodies child. Saban would have never allowed that. He had kids that made mistakes and then made sure they didn’t make those same mistakes again.

On another note, is Morgan Freeman the actual GOAT?

Pretty sure he's God.

I'd actually put the odds higher for Ewers to portal than to go pro. Zero chance he's taken in top 3 rounds.

Colt was bigger, more athletic, much more accurate and was a winner and was taken in the 3rd round.
This QB class is a joke and NFL teams will still overdraft them.

I don’t think he’s anywhere close to a first round pick but someone will fall for the potential and arm talent.

At this point there is very little he could do at the college level to ease fears. Hell, if he came back and then missed time again for a 4th straight year that could cripple his NFL hopes. It might be better for him to get drafted in the 3rd and 4th round and go to a place where he can develop and not be rushed like he has his entire life.

Embarrassing fan behavior. Never want to see that again. And I'm glad you mentioned it @Ketchum and called them out.
I thought Quinn's footwork the past 2 games looked a lot like him in 2022. Kinda lazy. Not getting set.

QE looked more like Manning holding the ball too long. At least Arch can move in the pocket or run for yards.

How did Sark not see what was coming? Did he just not see that Georgia's defense would have their best game of the year so far?

Damn, you have to love this defense.

You have your finger on the pulse. Seasons will ultimately be decided by making the 12-team playoff moving forward.

That corner blitz that rocked him... really rocked him. He has to see that/feel it and he didn't.

So much of this thread is about Ewers, but if the OL provides a strong rush attack it really seams to solve all the problems. You saw it in 2H were the rush set up play action and more time for Quinn to throw. Clearly Quinn needs to step it up a notch, but the OL is cuplpable here as well. I also think we had a ~ 50% chance to beat UGA if we three and out them on the first series of that 90 yard drive. That 3rd down pass play was a killer.

It's not just the OL in the run game. The running back play wasn't good enough.

Yeah agreed

It’s nuts that some Texas fans are saying we are being an aggy if we also agree with the punishment that was doled out

Those fans should damn well be banned for the year

No effective running game; Ewers doesn’t run much or well; he can’t throw long passes. I’d say that’s quite a few limitations. Wonder exactly how you game-plan in that setting.
Especially against Kirby Smart and GA

BTW I liked Freeman in Red quite a bit. Definitely more of just a fun role, but he was great it was entertaining.

I feel like an ass criticizing the young man, but QE isn’t making plays. It’s always felt to me like he’s great at executing plays, but when it all goes to shit or the stakes are the highest, can you impose your will to make something happen that just otherwise wouldn’t.

VY had all kinds athletic talent, but also played to “make the play” when it was needed it most. He was going to bend the game to his will. The greats at the position, even ones lacking elite athleticism, were always trying to bend the game to their will.
Well said. In my opinion QE needs a dominant running game to be in alpha mode as you describe above. Look at the Alabama game last year as a notable exhibit. Particulary that last 7 minute drive. A Bijan, a RoJo a Jonathon Brooks, that's really what this team needs. I was hoping Blue was going to be that guy. Can Wisner become a Brooks clone?
