Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (Fueling Sam Ehlinger has to give Herman the tingles...)

@Ketchum You should be more clear when mentioning the name Rachel Nichols. I presume you are talking about this one:

But I am much more into this one:

FYI, there are about 60 actresses named Rachel Nichols.

In fact, I've started to wonder if Herman isn't paying the Bradshaws of the world to crap on Ehlinger. Maybe he can get one of his former Ohio State players to remark that he wouldn't make third string on the 2014 Buckeyes? Red McCombs hasn't done a controversial interview in a while, so maybe we can run that up the flag pole?

Or maybe one of his favorite Ohio State Coaches like Zack Smith to say a few words?

Herman will need to take stock of what's happened and determine whether he has enough recruiting war daddies on his staff and whether the net gain of adding a few rainmakers

My recollection is when CTH was hired he stated that recruiting effectiveness would be criteria #1 for the assistant coaches' hiring and retention. I agreed with that policy then, and I still think it is the essential approach. As head coach ultimately you have to decide if you can REALLY afford not to do the right thing.

You may get away with it briefly, but eventually reality comes home.

Speaking of all these drinks, I've always wanted to try all the drinks of the old signs hung up on the Catfish Parlor walls.

1 Will Texas land anyone from AZ?
2. What RB do you give TX the best chance at landing? Do they just take 1?
3. Will Texas land any big time play making DL or LB's?
1. Yes.
2. Hard to handicap at this point. They seem second with too many important targets.
3. Define big time.

Nope, not gonna let you guys ruin the thread. Take it to the Corral.

Read my reply.
I did- was responding to another poster before reading your reply.
His inquiry was a good one, and questioned whether several things weren't at play other than recruiting prowess of certain staff members.

I don't think it's any one thing. I think it's a number of things, some not completely related to Texas, specifically. That being said, I'm not sure Texas has elite recruiters at a time when the landscape probably demands it.

Yep, and I think a couple of those things are hard to overcome without getting down and dirty.

Why aren’t any of our commits at these National events?

The last two classes were built on a network of ballers that recruited other players. I don’t see that this year...

I'm not sure that I would say they aren't stellar. I'm just not sure that stellar is good enough, if that makes sense.

You said UT needs to be elite in everything and that just winning isn’t enough...if the staff isn’t the problem, then what exactly are the problems and what do you think Herman can do to fix them? Thanks!

Each kid has a different set of circumstances, but at the end of the day, the commitment list lacks some firepower. It doesn't help that the out of state commits haven't been pouring in.

I don't think there is a THE problem. I think it's more complicated than that.

Please expound and help us unravel how complicated it must be.
The state is currently in a state of recruiting competitiveness that has never been seen before, which makes it hard to pin down some of the moving parts.

Texas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M have never all been this good with this much momentum and with this much quality in the way of recruiting. On top of that, the out of state poaching hasn't been this impactful since the 90s... when Texas and Oklahoma were somewhat lost in recruiting.

In a normal day and age, the staff Texas has would probably be god enough to win the majority of impact targets in the state, but this isn't a normal day and age.

On top of that, Texas being good is mostly a myth for most of the kids being recruited, with all due respect to Texas beating Georgia.

There's just a lot of factors crossing paths at the same time.

I’ll take the bet about aggy having a better class. Texas will finish ahead. And, both will finish in the top 10.

Wadda ya expect Ketch? You know better than to say a picture of a controversial sports figure right now is thee photo of the year and not expect any push back. Don’t disagree or agree with whatever y’all are going on about, but you started it.

For many here where sports is a safe haven, it would be appreciated if politics were kept out of our beloved sports.

On that topic of normal day and age, do you think access to information and social media have anything to do with the willingness to go out of state?

You can find out just about anything and see everything from your fingertips, which I’m sure removes some hesitation to leave home.

I expect every facet of this team to improve next year. Gone are two of the fiercest Air Raid coaches that gave Todd Orlando hell. Going into the season there are only 2 traditional air raid teams to worry about.

This is a 10 win team at the worst, even with ABB inexperienced Defense. But I must admit that the thought of us playing as the favorite is a little scary.
