Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (Herman is just showing off at this point...)

What, do you think she no longer hates America? This "benefit" performance will make her more money than any ten sold-out shows. Did she do it for the money, the prestige or because she has actually matured. I have no personal knowledge, do you? I would hope she has matured and realizes that her freedom was bought and paid for by Americans who have understood that liberty and freedom are the enemies of the haters of this world. Their would be no free Japan, France, England, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland and on and on if it was not for the America that she stated she hates. When you have seen the cost of this freedom and realize the unbelievable sacrifice it takes, actions and words, such as hers, cut deep. Thank God I never saw combat but I have many in my family that have, including my brothers and sisters in the American Legion. Words matter. Actions matter. We will see in the future which ones demonstrate her true character.
I don't really have any words for you.

Texas A&M picking up Max Wright and Leon O’Neal this weekend represents a major coup for Kevin Sumlin, considering he will lose his job in six months and Wright will take an official visit to Texas in January, once both players open back up their recruitments. This is nothing more than window dressing for a program heading backwards in 2017

Whatever that is supposed to mean. I guess it is more vaguery from you.
It means you hit all the talking points that a man who would slight a young woman in such a way when those that know more than you suggest something different.

I'm not talking about me. I'm talking about the universal high regard the UK has for her.

But, what would they know about this? You know... the 11 million that watched it.

Would the U.K. have that same high regard if she stated she hated them, or does she reserve that for the USA?

The concert was the right thing to do, undoubtedly, and she deserves credit for that. But it's not unreasonable to remember her feelings about this country either.

The moral of what I wrote is that we shouldn't judge and convict every young person as forever damaged goods when they make stupid mistakes.

There's more in a lot of them than that.

I can assure you a lot of the men and women that make up our greatest generation would tell you that there were maturity issues before the defining moments of their lives occurred.

You have a point- one of that generation, my father, did tell something very similar. And I'm grateful that I'm not still paying for the mistakes of my 20s. Or 30s or 40s for that matter. And that there weren't cell phones there to document them.

Who knows, maybe she has rethought her position and will one day publicly address that issue, too.

No way Jefferson would have started in the 2005 team. Not the way he's been playing.

Jefferson in 2005 would have had real coaches showing him how to play the game. Let's see how he looks this year.

But in all honesty 0.00% chance rashad bobino holds off Malik.

What OL and

DL do you see Texas landing and does the recent commits help land others?
Hardest part of this class to put a finger on.

Coburn is going to happen and he's one very nice interior player to start to build around.

No, Mack's 1999 recruiting class followed a 4-7 season in 1997.

Eventually, Herman will play the season, but it will still be a class following Charlie's 5-7 year.

The recruiting prowess Herman is showing at this initial stage in his tenure is more impressive than Mack's recruiting in 1999.
  • Mack inherited an experienced, talented senior class, particularly on the DL, OL and at RB. In contrast, Herman's lineups will consist mainly of kids not yet 21 and hardly any senior starters.
  • Mack inherited a number of NFL draft choices and a Heisman candidate. 4 of the seniors Mack inherited were future pro-bowlers. While Herman inherited some talented young athletes from Charlie Strong, it remains to be seen how many, if any, have the kind of next-level talent that Mack inherited.
  • Mack's recruiting success in '99 only came later in the season, after Ricky and a team of senior starters delivered signature November wins over Nebraska and A&M. In contrast, Herman has generated his early recruiting success all on his own efforts without the team contributing the wow factor for him.

You do realize that Shane is completely unproven in almost every way a quarterback can be unproven?
Except winning the starting job at least once, probably twice.

I get it that the competition was weak (nonexistent) but he outplayed expectations last year didn't he? And I don't think he gets enough credit for performing under the most predictable offensive play calling since the Greg Davis tunnel screen-fest of 2012.

If the bar was survival, yes, he somewhat outplayed it.

You misread the recruiting question. Mack's '99 class followed a 9 win season. Herman's class is unprecedented in the modern era of Texas football in terms of following a shitty season.
Not really. In 2014, Tennessee had the 5th ranked class & the 5th highest star average (3.65) following six straight 6-7 loss seasons. They went 7-6 the next year, and turned around and had the 5th ranked class again (6th highest star average at 3.69).
So, elite classes have followed horrendous years. The 2011 UT class ranked 3rd in the country, and had the 2nd highest star average (3.77) following a 5-7 season. Regardless, this is a great class for now having had 7 straight horrible years. But, a 3.5-star average isn't all that great by Texas' standards. That would rank as the 2nd lowest star average in the Mack Brown era. The 2016 class had a 3.54-star average, and that was with Charlie coming off of two straight 7-loss seasons.

I'm excited to see what Herman can do if Texas as an unexpectedly good year. I expect the 2019 class to be insane if he can get Texas to 9 wins this season.

Shots Fired!

... I wouldn't make too much out of Tom Herman telling 2019 running back Noah Cain that he plans on taking only one running back. It's called recruiting and part of big-time recruiting is living in the grey area when it comes to selling. If things change, they change and you can communicate that along the way.

I dislike this take. Don't make promises to these young men you do not intend to keep. Reputation is critical. Tom knows that, I believe.

I'm pretty sure the K was called a wild pitch, not a passed ball. It hit the plate and bounced -- almost no chance for Cantu. And he delivered a clutch hit in helping win Saturday night. I've become a fan of Pierce, but no way he should have pitched to the lefty who twice delivered 2 out, RBI singles, including in the 8th. Walk him and take your chances on a righty-righty match-up.

Championship game at 11:00 Eastern, 10:00 Central? What dumb shat thought up that schedule?!?!?!?

Hook 'em!!!
9 on the left coast. This is why the Pac 12 is a bad option for Texas. 2 time zones is too big a differential.

In that sense, each class follows all other prior classes, which makes the question meaningless. I believe the intent was "immediately" follows.

A few things

1. Even IF you solely go on current Rivals team rating of 3.5, I think it's a fairly safe bet that is the all but assured of ending up higher. There are at least 3 if not 4 more likely commits from the state's top 10 (Eagles, Woodard, Green and Waddle). And 2 of them (Eagles & Woodard) may very end up 5 stars. The foundation built with the first half of this class is extremely impressive and that's not even considering the circumstances. It's stronger than what Mack laid with his '99 class at the same time. And the back end of the class could be absolutely stellar.

2. 247 team composite has our current team average significantly higher. While the 3.5 star average is bested by 11 other teams in the top 20 on Rivals, in the 247 composite, the 92.81 avg. is 4th highest. And in comparison to Mack's '11 class, it's a 1.5 points higher. And again, going back to the first point, this arguably the LOWEST the class average will be between now and February with the back half projected to be loaded with higher 4 stars and perhaps a couple more 5 stars.

In summary, Herman has absolutely jumped out of the blocks fast as sh*t barely 6 months on the job. Even just meeting MINIMUM win expectations (8 regular season), he may very well end up with a top 5 class.

Once Dicker gets his three-star rating, which I think happens this week, the average star ranking will climb significantly and will correct the glitch.

Sounds good. That being said, I'm not necessarily concerned with the lack of a kicker rating as it relates to the discussion. I think we are seeing something very special recruiting-wise with Herman.

totally agree. just saying that the average star ranking is a bit misleading because the one non-rated kid brings the score down in an unjust way.

Hearing this might change as early as today.

Agreed on all points. I think this class could be the foundation of a future NC if he pulls off 9+ wins.
