Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Is the coverage of Ewers too intense?)

Buddy, it was a waste of time and space dedicating the first section to explaining the mods coverage of QE. You shouldn't have to, that is exactly what we pay for, whether people want to b*tch and whine about it.

With that being said, you guys are on point with the QB reporting and it showed last season. Keep it up, even if it aint sunshine and rainbows
I didn't think it was a waste of time. I thought it was a heathy discussion.

Not if he’s fully healthy — something that I think is often overlooked when reflecting on the 2023 season.

I think that's kind of naive and danagerous at the same time.

Bad performances happen to great players all the time and he's not even great.

Fantastic write up man.

Was nodding my head along with you (especially in the B/S section)

You are spot on when you say that "sometimes you just need a little Ray Charles". He's a late Sunday afternoon running around with the car windows down type of guy. Gets you to thinking about the the good stuff in life
It's funny, he's an early Sunday morning listen for me. ;)

Good write up. I pay for opinions, analysis and debate. Get all that on OB plus some extra head scratching corral BS. If I wanted group think I’d be an aggy.

I doubt Sark wants to lose any RB to the portal, but if he does he would pick Robinson. Not an everydown back but has great speed and open space agility. With Baxter and Red they cover that to some extent.

Ray Charles - spot on and great timing on the list. I would switch #1 and #2 but would not die on the hill for the switch. You nailed the description on “Come Back Baby”
You think the guy he went out of his way to feature in the last game they played is the guy he'd most want to lose?

Thanks for the kind words on Ray.

i've always been interested in the complete spectrum of coverage not just the positive aspects. It's totally fair forEwers to receive praise when he performs well and criticism when he doesn't.Same for any position on the team. That being said Worthy got a ton of criticism over the dropped passes issue. Then we hear after the season he was playing with a broken hand.Maybe I missed it but I'm sure I'm not the only one curious to know at what point in the season did the injury occur and what kind of break it was.I understand there are privacy issues concerning this type of information but I'd like to see what you can dig up on this especially the time frame of it.
I don't think the coaches (Sark) have been straight up with us over that injury. It's kind of a Sark thing to be misleading about such things, even if it leaves the kid hanging out to dry a little.

I wonder if it's something Worthy will be asked about if he's ever made available to us again. lol. ;)

Watching Earl run was just so much fun i mean that run at the end of the game was just unreal. I got a kick out of watching some of those commercials football was sure different 20 years ago.
The QB position is always the most talked about spot on any football team hopefully Ewers is the man this year & if he is we win at least 10 games win Big 12 & compete for a playoff spot Ewers declares for the draft gets drafted in top 10 Manning is the man in 2024. All I have to say is the Longhorn koolaid tastes so good

Then reveal the sources of the people saying Ewers wasn’t giving enough time etc. because those are opinions presented as facts. Nobody said take it easy on the the kid, but in the end if anybody expected more than a first year qb with no ups and downs, they are delusional. But to question his commitment with unnamed peoples opinions borders on a bias that makes me uncomfortable. Sources should make themselves clear to show that they don’t have an agenda. It’s disingenuous for you to imply that’s information that is not going to cause a stir and bring out a lot of emotion, but is it really a fact, or an implication without any real discussion of weather any of that was true? Maybe he never had a major injury and didn’t know how to respond and had the learn how to adapt to the spotlight. What do we know as fans about that kind of spotlight? There were no facts to back up what is essentially speculation. Unless the source is given what is the credibility? We all saw the struggles, but also saw the great plays, which in context, imply his season was better than an average first year starter and showed he had some great talent. A few catches of dropped great throws and the season is much different. If the sources are so credible, they would be able to say they gave Ewers their thoughts and expected him to respond. That’s actual transparency. Not the reporting of opinion without backing facts.

a. I'm not going to reveal sources.

b. No one has ever really disputed the facts. I've spoken with people close to Ewers and no one disputes the details. What they dispute was the fairness it reporting it.

I drafted OBJ in the 17th round last year and he's my keeper. I also drafted Trevor Lawrence in the 18th round. However, I like PrizePicks and not having to draft and maintain a fantasy football team throughout the season. If you're thinking about retiring from traditional fantasy football, does it mean you're already retired?

Yet when Sark decided to run the ball against Baylor the narrative is “Sark has lost all faith in Ewers”….

That's not really accurate. I'm also not sure why you put that in quotes when that's not an actual quote. Those are just your words to generalize what was said.

In that moment, yes, confidence was lost. It was a reflection of where things stood at that moment,. It was also the right decision needed to win that game, which was quite different than other times in the season when he had chosen to lean on him a bit too much in the same situation.

Which is what made your coverage of Card vs Ewers so polarizing…

How so? Everyone on the site said that Ewers was going to start repeatedly.

The only time that changed was when the events that led to the suspicions that card had won the job, but you'd roll on the floor laughing if you knew the truth about how that even came about.

It would be interesting to have a discussion on why the coaches were not up to coaching in the fourth quarter. Was it stubbornness to stick to a game plan that maybe didn’t highlight advantages as it didn’t fit the scheme that Sark wants to run or were they just out coached? I also wonder if Sark’s duties of a head coach take away from being prepared to be a play caller on Saturday?

I think Sark is at his best when he's able to script and before opposing coaches have had a chance to adjust.

The struggle comes in the need to adjust to the adjustments in quick fashion. It often hasn't come quick enough or not at all. Of course, Texas was great in the third quarter of games last year over the course of the season, so it's not a weekly occurence.

Was that someone you?

Knock twice if you need help right now.

I like how you said 3 year player as it relates to Ewers....you added that in on purpose to justify some of the negativity from this site toward ewers...

:oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops:

He's literally entering his third season. 🤷‍♂️

I do think it's a little disingenuous to put on your "objective journalist" hat in this discussion, especially since your following section consists almost entirely of speculation & prognostication about the RB position.

How so?

I also would have placed "Georgia on My Mind" at #1, but anything by Ray just gets to me in one way or another.

If we don't win nine games and you wouldn't want to be here if we don't, where would you go?

How do the sunshine pumpers live their daily lives? It fascinates me.

Ewers came in as the #1 player in TWO recruiting classes. He left high school early to pursue stardom and NIL bucks. He carried himself and that ridiculous mullet with a rockstar attitude. So, if you're gonna give off the superstar vibes, expect superstar attention. And, if you don't live up to the hype that you yourself have played a very active role in creating, expect some criticism.

And, it seems Ewers gets that. He's a kid. He's learning and improving. But, the critical coverage was more than fair given what he was giving the media to work with. Fame is a double-edged sword and whatnot.

I also don't remember ever seeing a QB yo-yo so much between looking like the second coming and looking like a guy who should maybe be benched. Extreme highs and lows last season led to a lot of frustration for everyone.

Glad to see the good reports this year. I'm excited to see his improvement.
I think Ewers is more comfortable in his skin that some of those around him.

I think that's a really good thing. He's going to need that for the next 15-20 years.

@Ketchum, what would the score by quarter look like if you took out the pre-conference patsy games that we pulled starters after half? Just curious.

Taking the three non-conference games (Including Alabama out)

1st - Texas 91-50
2nd - Texas 107-47
3rd - Texas 61-48
4th - Opponents 83-68

Oh, I'll probably play.

I have Garrett Wilson as my keeper.

On Phil I used to be one of his biggest fans but him joining LIV & his defense of them I just don't care about him anymore & took no joy in him finishing 2nd
He's still my guy. I still think of him as the guy that went out of his way to send autographed Masters flags when we wee fundraising for our Cole Pittman events. He did more than a lot of Cole's teammates were willing to do.

This is an embarrassing article by you @Ketchum and another long winded attempt to change the narrative, which is your MO time and time again. Those of us in the know that have been critical of you aren’t critical because you gave unvarnished truth, it’s because your reporting was BULL SHIT.

Now you come on here and act like you’re different than Tex Ags and have all the sheep cheer for you while you chide others saying “You can’t handle the truth!” No, Colonel “we want the truth” and your reporting about Ewers being lazy was not the truth.

Your not reporting how Worthy was a terrible teammate last year and a big reason for Ewers struggles was not the truth.

Your reporting how Ewers is turning over some huge new leaf is not the truth.

In short, lose the high and mighty act and get better sources, and we’ll all be better for it.

This place is Hotel California. I'll always be here, but if I had to leave I might start a Liverpool fan site. ;)

I don’t think he is blaming you. Everyone was shocked to hear Card was besting him out and that always creates chaos. Sark himself didn’t give Ewers a warm hug by sending his spokesman out the next day to tell the media without warning to name Ewers.

No one was reporting he was besting him out until that one 24-hour window.

One day you guys will probably learn where all of that fuss came from. In the interest of the team/program, it wouldn't be healthy to have that conversation now.
