Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Kudos to PK, but what about 2023?)

It might come down to playing with the No.1 overall pick in the 2024 Draft or taking your chances with unproven players.
I get it. Move back to cali too is part of the equation. His numbers were great last year. If he doesn’t think Quinn his roommate can suddenly throw the ball like bama or OU then yeah he should leave. But hopefully he thinks the team is getting better. Sark’s two man routes aren’t helping.

He’s also the anti-Bijan or Roschon if he makes the move. I realize it’s a “business” bet but there’s more to it than that

I LOVE Patton. If it's on, I'm in.
My take on Patton-it's not a story so much as it is a character study. When I watch the movie, I get the impression that the scenes are vignettes to show Patton the man. Not a knock; like you I love the movie.

And since? He spreads the ball around. And they rotate its well known. How many yards does Addison have?

My guess is you have zero clue Addison missed two full games and was limited in a 3rd due to injury. If he doesn’t miss those games he’s likely 60-65 catches for 1kyds and 10+ TDs. UCLA he was finally back to 100% and dominated with 11/178/1.

I do have a clue. I promise you. Lots of would coulda in there and cherry picking a shootout game

yep - I wasn’t being Snarky. Cornelius Ryan wrote the book (Longest Day) and the adaptation is incredibly accurate. It has an ensemble cast like Kelly’s Heroes (which should be top 3 on your list)

It’s incredibly good. I have ridden a bike from the Albert Canal to Arnhem, the Bridge looks exactly the same.

Both Kelly’s Heroes and ABTF should be top 5 I’d guess.

I don't think any list I looked at (to make sure I didn't forget anything) listed either anywhere near that high.

Thoughtful write-up. I’ve kinda wondered about next year’s D, but boy has PK delivered this season. Agree on your choice of Patton. Maybe the best opening scene of any movie ever. I would add Hurt Locker To my top 10.
Hurt Locker was in my next 5.

I hate to hear that in regards to Worthy. A Bridge to Far has to be on the list. Platoon at #9?

giphy.gif
Platoon is a great movie.

And true. There are plenty of areas to nitpick about how he's performed this season... "pocket presence" isn't one of them.

Says the guy that also doesn't think Sark has had any game management issues this seasons.

Every part of Ewers' game needs to improve.

lol. He has 51 catches for 750 and 9 Missing 2 games and affected a third. That’s not “woulda coulda” lol. That’s reality. It’s ok to admit you were really accurate with the “spread it around.” When Riley has a premier WR that WR stands out.

It's a bit of a different flavor but 1917 is a good war movie. Single shot movie, which might make it difficult for some to watch.

But it also creates some unique filming opportunities and the work put in to create it is pretty impressive.

Do you not think Worthy's hands are below-average? He is very fast and gets open, has good moves with the ball, but isn't coming down with much in contested spots (or, honestly, looking like he cares very much about doing so).
I think his hands are fine. I wonder about his focus, though, as his frustration levels increase.

B/S: The Card boys on this board have reached a new low continuing to bash a 19-year-old redshirt freshman who played fine against Kansas and didn't do anything to lose the game this week!

It's time to give it a rest!

Besides, what has Hudson Card actually done to make anyone believe he's the savior on the bench that Sark refuses to play, and even more so re Malik Murphy?

(Sell) Aren't you doing the same thing to Card right now that you are frustrated with others doing to Ewers? Frankly, you're looking at the Ewers situation through a vacuum if you're only looking at the Kansas game, which he played with training wheels on. It's been a while since he's played at a high level. Meanwhile, Card has only been better this season in terms of efficiency rating by 30 points. He's no savior, but he's played better this season. That's not a subjective opinion. That's math.

B/S - Sark deserves a grade of “C” for the job he has done as head coach this year.

(Buy) One of the most important aspects of this season was his ability to develop the quarterback position to the point that it was an absolute strength going into next season, no questions asked. It's the second year in a row it hasn't happened.

@Ketchum You don't find your two B/S answers above just a bit contradictory? You're saying that Sark developed Card into a much more efficient QB compared to last year, but SS somehow missed completely on his development of Ewers over the limited time he had with him over the spring and summer? During Q1 of the Bama game before he was injured, Ewers looked to be much improved from the spring game in his decision-making and touch on his downfield passes, and he shined again in his return from injury in the Cotton Bowl vs OU.

No doubt QE has somehow regressed terribly as the season has worn on, but improvement in his game was evident at the first part of the season. However, he seems to be shellshocked and increasingly seeing ghosts over the past several weeks, resulting in poor footwork and stunningly bad accuracy.

I went back and read again. For the future most items were negative.
1. Defense is good. but we are losing our best players.
2. No depth on defense, especially linebacker and defensive end.
3. Ewers is worse than Card. There will be a new QB compitition.
5. Jaylan Ford was good this year. He to will be gone as a second round pick.
6. DJ Campbell waisted a redshirt.
7. Worthy will go to the portal next year.

I am not saying you are wrong, but it is was a tough article..
We focus on the things we want to focus on.

I celebrated Ford's great season and pointed out how well he's played. You just focused on his potential departure.

If historical accuracy was one of your criteria for war film, Braveheart should be nowhere near that list....Yikes! Starting with the name itself.

It is my understanding that A Bridge Too Far is considered one of the more accurate WWII movies. Also one of my favorites,
cool. I've not seen it.

He's loyal to the program and hasn't checked out, and will still give it his all (others can argue what exactly that is) to end this season to position himself as well as possible in portal, just like he's trying to position himself as well as possible after next year. B/S?

I'm not sure how to answer your question.

a. You knocked Ced.
b. His durability and the ability to take a heavy workload was part of his super powers.

Ask those A&M defenses what they thought of him.

You could make a strong case that Herman and Sark both failed to get the most out of Bijan. He has Heisman winning talent and likely will never even get an invite to NY.

I don’t think I’m reading too far between the lines to think that worthy and/or worthy’s circle have indicated to ketch or anwar that they are beaten down by Ewers and plan on transferring to usc. Sucks.

Also didn’t think we were playing Bama in Birmingham rather than Tuscaloosa next season.

Also is there zero percent chance Ryan Watts goes pro? He’s a Junior.
a. Actually, I think there's a split in what Worthy should do behind the scenes from those that are close to him. He loves Sark. I think everyone is frustrated by the quarterback play.

Sark's comments last week that some viewed as slightly throwing Worthy under the bus did not go unnoticed.

b. I haven't heard watts is a threat to go pro.

When he got to the Giants, his limitations became glaring. Didn't have breakaway speed, was a straight ahead, downhill runner with little to no shift, and his pad level was too high to consistently push through the middle. What worked in college didn't work in the NFL. Not close to being worth a first round pick.
Yup.

Sark may very well have blown a decent chance at playing for and winning a Big 12 title this year because his ego can't let go of the fact that his prize QB isn't developing the way that he wants.

All this offense needed was a guy who could distribute the ball to the talent and hand the ball to Bijan. Maybe use his feet once or twice a game when things have broken down. Instead Sark just wants to keep giving a somewhat snake bitten freshman-aged kid reps.

Any good head coach would have stepped in by now and told the OC/QB coach to pull the plug. Actually that would have come at half time of the OSU game. You know Saban wouldn't tolerate it. But Sark can't disassociate winning games from being right.

I think these are the risks that come with taking someone with the recruiting profile of Ewers.

So the defense will be the excuse for next year if it the season sucks?
Too early to say that, but there's a lot of rebuilding to do. They have to be aggressive at linebacker in the Portal.

The way I see it is that Sark let this team down in an egregious manner, Ewers was OBVIOUSLY not ready to be THE guy. He had one and a half terrific games. His play against Alabama and Oklahoma were noteworthy, but it pretty much ended there. Card, and the rest of us, deserved better than the crap show Ewers was putting on. Every week I spent half the time bitching about overthrown passes and missed opportunities caused by QE not performing at a reasonable level. Sarkisian, and Sarkisian alone, has to shoulder that blame. On top of Ewers underperforming, the play calling was so often abysmal, all Sarkisian. I don’t think it’s fair to roast Ewers, he was simply put in a really tough spot by a coach with blinders on. Looking back, I remember Saban pulling Jalen Hurts in the middle of a bowl game to replace him with freshman Tua, because that’s what was best for the team. Winners just do things differently.
Ewers is a young player playing like a guy that isn't quite ready. It was always a possibility that he might struggle like a lot, but not all, young players.

It was discussed quite a bit before the season. No one should be surprised.

I really liked Bo Nix at Auburn, but he was really hot and cold. He’d make some great plays, and then he’d have some horrible “wtf was he thinking?” type plays, more often than you’d like.

I really haven’t seen him play much this year, but I guess he’s settled in at Oregon.
He's been pretty fantastic.

🤷‍♂️

It was a player vote that decided it. It may be or it could just reflect Tyler’s leadership qualities.

I’ve read a lot of Leeds fans on Twitter saying they’ll be rooting for the Yanks now as a result.
Adams is easy to love, but Pulisic was supposed to be the leader of this outfit coming out of 2018's disappointment.

First, I agree PK has done a great job getting our D where it is today; but I still put the lion’s share of blame for the losses to Tech and OSU on a defense that couldn’t protect double digit leads. That said, where we are NOW is we have a pretty salty defense.
And any war movie list that omits Midway (the original) is sorely lacking
Haven't seen Midway. I will say I don't remember any list I looked at really mentioning it.
