Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (Let's Assume... dare I say... It's Cumbie)

Update:

Strong back on plane to Austin. Had a tall white guy with him. They couldn't tell if red hair. Had hat on. Odds are it wasn't Cumbie / just what I was told. Left 15 minutes ago.

As bad as it is being a Lakers fan right now, I can't imagine what it's like being a Sixers fan.

You could get the next 3 number 1's and still be the worst team in the league. What a f'n disaster that franchise is.

On a side note, Ben Simmons reminds me of Lamar Odom, without all the heroin and candy eating.

BUY or SELL: Shane Buechele will not have a redshirt season and will start at least one game in 2016?

(Sell) It’s probably too early to answer this question, but Strong cannot afford breaking in a true freshman next season and I think Buechele is best-served by using the redshirt season.
[/I]
Strong cannot afford not to play the QB that gives him the best chance to win. I agree that's unlikely to be a true freshman, but there's no let's-redshirt-talent-to-build-for-the-future three years in and under .500.

You GREATLY underestimate Coker. I have watched them all year and he is a great game manager in getting Bama in the right assignments and getting the ball in the hands of the playmakers at the proper time. And, that is just not handing off to Henry.
He is the typical Alabama QB. They know how to win the QB's just like Coker.

any road game for this program is a challenge.
I think the road game thing is a bit overblown. Texas lost 4 true road games this year (after going 3-1 on the road last year). 3 of the 4 road losses were games that just about every prognosticator had them penciled in to lose before the season started (at ND, at TCU and at WVU). Two were against teams that were contenders to make the playoff for most of the season and one was against a decent team in notably tough place to play. Iowa State was inexplicable but those types of games sometimes happen to the best of teams (see OU and Baylor for examples).

Sorry, Red Sox Nation, but I hate that David Price deal. I just don’t get paying an ace of diamonds price for the jack of clubs.

Liked everything but this. As a Sox fan for 60 years, I know that a team needs an ace to stop a 10-game losing streak. This was a GREAT deal. No, he's no Roger or Pedro, but he was the best available, and the Sox will contend this year because he leads the way.

Hook 'em!!!

Until we have the ability to pass with some accuracy it won't matter who the OC is in 2016.

True, but one more point to your reports. People that matter believed this team could have been 8-4 this year. What may be under reported a little is that Strong is well supported but this is his baby and he has to fix it. They expect that, and season next year that is 8-4 while better is what most feel could have been this year. From what I was told as late as yesterday walking out of the Baylor game was the blowouts can't occur next year. One thing that really helped him was not coming into Waco and getting throttled because he was telling those that mattered this team is better and the fact he basically did a Babe Ruth can called the way he believed the team would play and they played that way especially in the first quarter is why he's getting so much support. Not having the answers to why ISU happened will not fly next year.

Given the outlook for Charlie, if I'm Cumbie, I turn him down.
2 years guaranteed at 1 Million Plus. In a state you've been recruiting in when all you have to do is change one maybe two things and you produce a 7 possibly 8 game winning season. A huge upside on that. You go to OU or even stay at TCU and possible coach a team to the 9 wins at OU, or 7 or 8 wins at TCU without Boykin. A lot of downside. You have to look at the big picture. Plus Texas is a nationally recognized program.

c. I’m not sure what to make of Chelsea losing to Bournemouth. The Blues are just a joke right now.
I didn't want to believe it was possible, but this weekend's loss confirms that this Chelsea team has given up on Mourinho, period. Simply too much talent on the roster to explain such a dismal season performance. I think Mourinho and Jim Harbaugh have a lot in common in terms of burning teams out super-fast.

If Bedford is the D coordinator in name only, why is it may easy to replace him if only to show the players the consequences of poor performance? And more importantly, to bring someone in who can actually be a D coordinator so CS can focus on his job as head coach. What is clear is there is insufficient time for CS to be both head coach and de facto D coordinator.

That's a very good point.

This team was beyond dreadful on the road this year and you think think the road game thing is overblown?

He's not an ace, not in the truest sense of being an ace.

Charlie got lucky Saturday, the only real piece of luck he's had in two years.

Is that clear? Does Art Briles not have enough time to worry about his offense?

I'm in the camp that thinks Buechele should play some meaningful snaps just like Briles did this year with their freshmen QB. If you think about it, Heards improvement will probably be the #1 goal in the spring, while looking to see what Buechele, Merrick, and Locksley bring to the table. Swoopes should automatically be #5 on the depth chart from the start of spring practice. Buechele, from a talent standpoint, should be the #2 QB that we have.

Swoopes ultimately played better than Heard this season- so there's that.

I disagree with this to some extent. The part of the Baylor offense that was exposed this season IMO, was how exposed they leave their quarterbacks. How could the brilliant Briles duo expose their only remaining qb on the roster to the hits he took? Running zone read keepers with him was insane.

The fact that their top 3 qbs were injured was not some fluke. In hindsight, I would say that the fact that they have had few injury concerns at that position for the last few years is a bigger fluke.

Agree, and what I was most excited about Saturday is that they actually won a road game finally. Hopefully, they remember how to do it next year.

I'm chuckling at all the teeth gnashing over this win. 12th ranked team in the country. Texas goes in with multiple starters out and absolutely NOTHING to play for...with starters and backups dropping out during the game as well. The ENTIRE back seven was true fish down the stretch.... in a LOUD, legitimate road environment (impressed and completely confused that this was happening in WACO of all places). I don't give a damn how many yards were given up between the goals...Texas made the plays when they needed to be made and held them to SEVENTEEN points. Baylor scored 17 points and Texas WON....repeat that to yourself.

It was ugly. It was hard to watch. It was absolutely f'ing BEAUTIFUL when it was done. People are dismissing this win as meaningless. Am I in the twilight zone? It was anything BUT meaningless. No it won't pay out immediately in recruiting. But it for GD damn sure will put some hay in the barn down the road. We needed ANY type of win on the field vs. Briles and I can't believe some of the left field bullshit I've been reading. Scratch that it's OB of course I can.

So all of you fems out there can keep up your incessant whining, moaning, and bitching. It was a sweet f'ing win to cap off a shit season, Texas dropped a fat steaming turd on Baylor's forehead, and I'm going to enjoy the HELL out of it the entire offseason.

Yeah, I'm not sure you convinced me much.;)

I think Charlie gets another year with 8 wins minus the blow-out losses. If he continues to get tea-bagged by the likes of Iowa State, it should be a no-brainer.

Again, it depends on what the power players believe is available. I think that's as much a piece of the puzzle as anything else.
