Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Permission to Dream Colossally)

I think what separates 2008 from 2024 for now was the D and the schedule. That 4 week stretch was brutal.

As for Hanks, I liked Forrest Gump as a kid, but now on rewatch it's kind of a goofy movie with a badass soundtrack.

My Top 10:

1. Saving Private Ryan
2. Catch Me if You Can
3. Cast Away
4. Charlie Wilson's War
5. The Money Pit
6. Road to Perdition
7. You've Got Mail
8. Captain Phillips
9. Sully
10. Turner & Hooch
I still remember that 08 mizz game a week after the OU game. I thought the stadium was going to explode before halftime.

I've always thought it was just ok.
I went to college with a girl (now a grandmother) who worked for him in the Lufkin area and she said the movie was mostly accurate although not working in DC she wasn’t a witness to much of the movie script but she said working for him was an experience she won’t forget and that he was a wild man- even more so in person than the movie portrayed- I wanted to find out about Gust but she never met him

I'll try my hand at this @Ketchum

1. DT Mbatchou
2. DT Simpson
3. DE Hilson
4. WR Kelshaun
5. DB Dorian Brew

I feel pretty confident in my first four, but struggled with #5. I would think that fifth spot will need to be a DB.

Thoughts???
I think there will be a guy or two that come out of nowhere ala Aaron Butler

1. Saving Private Ryan
2. Forrest Gump
3. Big
4. A League of Their Own
5. Cast Away
6. Apollo 13
7. The Green Mile
8. Philadelphia
9. Catch Me If You Can
10. (tie) Greyhound/Captain Phillips
Nothing other than Big from the 80s, huh?

This board seems to love Charlie Wilson's War.

Turner and Hooch!!!!!!!!!!

Also, was that four week stretch really that difficult?

It was 4 ranked teams, but only one was in the Top 10.

I only watched the first half, but was not as impressed with Arch as many of your are. Obviously, he threw an interception and almost threw a second. On another occasion, he threw into a crowd of defenders with only one Longhorn in the vicinity. From my perspective, Arch is still demonstrating his youth and inexperience, which should improve with more experience. Yes, it is a good time to be a Longhorn, especially in football. It would be nice to learn more about the basketball and baseball teams. We have a great new coach in baseball. Can you tell us about how well he is doing in recruiting and in the portal. When I read about the baseball elite in the Metroplex from the Dallas Morning News, I have to look closely to find any of these standouts being committed to the University of Texas. I look forward to reading Orangebloods each Monday morning, as I gain insight into the athletics at UT. Keep up the great work!

Jimmy Jackson
Of course, he is still demonstrating his youth.... he's young.

The question is if given a run of games, how long would it take for the light switch to fully come on and what would the upside then be if it did?

@Ketchum you agreed that after 2027, best QBs in Texas history would be: VY, Arch, Quinn, and Colt.

First notice my avatar. I was at the game in Jan 2006. I'm a massive Vince fan. But, isn't it more likely, if Arch performs at the level you expect, that after 2027, the list is:
1. Arch, 2. Vince, 3. Quinn, and 4. Colt?
No.

Yes, the guy who was a third round pick vs. 2 that will be first round picks.

One guy was a career back-up, the other two will be drafted as projected starters.

But, sure.... lol
Yeah the Maxwell winner and two time Heisman finalist.

Unless Quinn wins the heisman or national championship he won’t pass Colt on the pantheon. Arch it remains to be seen.

Ewers throws the ball down the field beyond 20 yards once every 11.3 throws and between 11-20 yards once every 5.6 throws.

Manning throws the ball down the field beyond 20 yards once every 4.7 throws and between 11-20 yards once every 5.8 throws.

=================================================================

It's very obvious that Arch throws a beautiful deep ball, and every defense he faces is going to have to game plan for it.

But don't you think that as he works his way into the starter role next year that that stat of every 4.7 throws will go up somewhat? He's come into a couple of blowouts, and started against pretty much a tomato can. There has been pretty much zero need to play with any sort of conservatism every time Arch has been on the field.

There's a difference between talent and overall quality of player.

Colt is a better player at this point, but he was never more talented a day in his life.

Yes, it will go up. Maybe somewhere between the two extremes, which would still be quite a change to the offense.

Forrest Gump was very unique and kind of a surprise hit in its moment but in the years since it just doesn’t maintain the same magic for most people. It’s a bit over the top and saccharine for me which drops it a little.

My personal list (I prefer dramas over rom-come so it’s slanted in that way):
1. Saving Private Ryan
2. Castaway
3. Big
4. Green Mile
5. Apollo 13
6. Captain Phillips
7. Road to Perdition
8. Catch Me if you Can
9. Forrest Gump
10. League of their own
Have you queried "most people" to come to that conclusion. I believe, with equal proof, that most people love Forrest Gump and think it was Tom Hanks' greatest acting job.

You think his acting in Forest Gump is the best of his career?

Ok. I’d agree with that. With the exceptions of accuracy passing the football annd mobility. And while those are big components I realize it’s not the whole story.

Arm talent, sure Quinn has him beat

It's a great movie.

The top 5 teams in the conference basically beat one another up. They were all pretty salty.

and yet the piling happens,,,

why?
Well when you post his numbers, I always look hoping he’s turning a corner and finding success, but it just doesn’t really happen. It’s not a personal indictment, at all, I’m just commenting on the stats and performance.

I think Colt is the better athlete and has a more accurate arm.

He finished 2nd and 3rd in Heisman voting in 2008 and 2009. Probably should have won it in 2008. Quinn hasn't been invited yet. I think he's running 4th or 5th right now, so unless he blows it up against blowu and Georgia, he might not get invited this year.

Played in one National Championship. Was a screwy rule away from playing in one in 2008. You can probably argue if Colt doesn't get hurt in 2006, we might play for one that year as well.

What they both may have in common is that their bodies might not be able to hold up.

They were pretty good, but there was only one top level team that they played.

Texas never should have lost to Tech.

I wasn't talking about you, specifically. Technically, you were responding to someone else's responding.

I would have Bridge of Spies somewhere in the top 10.

He’s an interesting case because I’m not quite sure other than people like to piss in your Cheerios when you really like a guy. He wasn’t even a high four star so there shouldn’t be any 5 star flop butthurt, he just kind of fell into the majority of guys at his level that don’t pan out. Seems like a likable kid though and I would think most want him to succeed, it just hasn’t happened objectively.

Per the transfer player stats, I always thought Jerrin Thompson was a pretty good football player. He clearly had a nice game against Arkansas. Shows the depth that UT has and how stacked we are now at so many positions.
