Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (Shaka is a damn good coach)

It's a 16-11 team with a ton of close losses, many without Jones.

Even if the answer is only two... suddenly the team is 18-9 and probably a top 7 seed, given its resume of good wins.

And that’s good enough? With Andrew Jones on the team I agree that’s probably where they would be but I don’t see how that’s good enough for a team with as much talent as it would have when you have a Starting Five of Bamba, Roach, Jones, Osetkowski and Coleman. Two freshmen I get it, but Bamba I feel is the exception to that rule because he is so talented. So you have three upperclassmen, a top five pick and Coleman. That’s a team I feel like should be a top four seed in the tournament.

Vs. Expectations? Circumstances?

Yeah, I'd say a 20+ win season is a good start after last year. He likely gets there with Jones.

Never mind the locker room fights and players only meeting because the COACH can’t lead.....
Has Shaka met the expectations obviously not, but to cry and wish for him to be fired when he’s not going to be is stupid. Who’s gonna write the 16 million dollar check? Just support the damn team.
Ok...
Two potential top 5 picks in three seasons=1 tourney bid.

Worst record in school history.

Ability to recruit but apparently not the players he needs to win.

Fist fights and numerous players only meeting which I’m guessing means great leadership.

Forget the 16 million because you need much more than that for a basketball arena. Won’t see a dime from me for that with this product. In fact I’m cool with putting them in a high school gym and just being cool with status quo. I mean cheering for gold stars exudes “we are Texas”.

I read it all.

Unfortunately I have eyes and actually watch the games. Our offense is the same as most middle school teams. 3 guys stand around, 1 ball screen. It’s so bad it hurts.
Yet, they have as many group one wins as almost any team in the country.

This is the same BS parroted over and over again on this site buy folks who know nothing about basketball. I agree 100% with what you said Ketch, and continue to marvel at the tone deaf charlie comparisons and folks who clearly are not watching games and passing judgment.

We will see how we finish as we are about to run off 3 straight and get to the dance. Then we will see what kind of damage we can do.

I hope Andrew is back at 100% next year. The team is going to be very salty.

That's what I cheer for, not a coach. Shaka has done less with more than any coach I have ever seen. He's recruited well, then he's failed when coaching becomes necessary. Poor guy needs a pat on his head.
Hate to break this to you, but when you’re supporting the team you’re also supporting Shaka at the same time.

So basically those who disagree with you tonight are doing so purely on an illogical and irrational basis. Riiiiiiiight. The irony. Be better man.
A lot of them, yes. Some understand context. Some have made good points.

I would contend most on this board have never done a better job at their own jobs when faced with the type of hand he's been dealt.

Wow, you’re such a joke when it comes to writing about basketball.

So, would you say that 2% of the posters in this thread agree with your take or maybe even 5%? Must be everyone else, as per usual. No way your take sucks, right or that you have failed to adequately get your point across despite dozens of attempts for clarification.

A bunch of one and done’s that according to you were on vacation.... Cousins.
Yeah when you accumulate that much talent on a roster it’s not that damn hard to win.
I was wrong it was Davis and Kidd-gilchrest. They were the best players on the team and “on vacation” move the goal posts some more. I’m not saying we should win it all by a long shot but making the damn tourney last season and this year should’ve been given with 1 top 10 national player. FYI that would be the expectation every else. I mean if you care about winning that is

What is the back-channel marketing stuff you mentioned?
He worked the back channels at Texas to build up momentum the idea that he was going to be on the staff. He tried to will the move to happen.

Brew is a master at gorilla marketing himself.

I think it's quite dangerous to believe that the volume of those responding in the thread represent the same percentages of those that don't post online.

Got it. Don't foul me, bro.

Moving the goalposts? I said last year was unacceptable. I think this team makes the tournament. Also that Kentucky team had Terrance Jones pretty nice college player. You’re saying having just because you have 1 top 10 national player you should make the tourney. The last two No.1 picks didn’t make the tourney.
