Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (Shaka is a damn good coach)

Probably my least favorite thing about this site is when Ketch posts something that 99 percent of the people on his site disagree with and then acts indignant that it happens. I hate the condescending attitude. It’s a subjective use of facts to build an argument and come to a conclusion that is undoubtedly an opinion. That’s a fact. Your opinion isn’t more worthy in and of itself than anyone else’s.

Shaka gets another year and then he can likely go be a damn good coach somewhere else. That’s my opinion. Still love the site. Just prefer content from other contributors than Ketch.
No doubt. Truer words have never been written.

Lets not pretend Ketchum’s support of Smart is purely basketball related.

This. I make the motion there be 2 “10 Thoughts” moving forward; one “Inside the 40” and the other in the “Corral”.
It’s extremely ironic and been the issue since “shut up” it’s getting pretty obvious he can’t write without being subjective as relation to politics but he can with the school itself. Then paints paying members as the dults and hypocrites

I knew Shaka talk would dominate, but I didn't think everything else would be completely ignored.

I should have wrote about the Parkland HS kids in my last thought. Just snuck it right in,

When detailing why he's a damn good coach, his overall body of work does matter.

So, by your logic, Strong is a "damn good coach" as well, as @El Mahico was alluding to.

If that's the stance you want to take, that mid-major / G6 success from outlier stretches of performance dictates "damn good" status for life, fine. Just be consistent.

You compared this season to Charlie's last. That is what is not comparable. Keep up.;)
So, how far apart is a 5-7 season and missing a bowl game and missing the NCAA tournament that accepts 68 teams? I guess the only thing missing would've been the Tennessee State loss which would have been the equivalent of the Kansas loss. Is that the hang-up for you?

The fact some of you believe a team should be good just because it has a top 5 pick on it in this era is HILARIOUS.
Leaving this season aside, what's HILARIOUS is that you/ketch/any other Shaka supporter has even the first clue how to explain last season.
Never mind the locker room fights and players only meeting because the COACH can’t lead.....

26+ wins in six straight seasons isn't an outlier.

Come on man, he didn't have a PG...that's the excuse we heard all last year. I mean, of all the 100+ years at Texas, his was the first without a pure PG and it was all clearly Isiah Taylor's fault for leaving early, it's not as if Shaka could have recruited one.

Everyone is basically arguing over your central theme of him being a damn good coach. Who cares? Like you have agreed. He has underachieved overall at Texas and isn’t performing at a sustainable level. One more year. He will likely be gone after that. I really hope he proves me wrong. I really do.

I’m a supporter of the University of Texas. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see last season was abysmal. In the era of one and done having a top 5 pick means nothing. These kids are on vacation until the get to the league.

He was coaching at Virginia Commonwealth, dude. And he never won a conference championship as coach there. VCU won them before and after he left.
just lucky, huh?

It's amazing that the people at USA Basketball were tricked so easily.

@Ketchum repeating all the same things to all these. Posters doesn’t make them true only repetitive

Fact you act like only your opinion has merit

He's getting a ton out of the group of players he has, one of the youngest teams in the nation.

I would contend Davis is making strides this season.

Specific game-planning? Seriously?

The Tech win stands out as a clear example.

I would contend Davis is finally looking like the freshman we were all excited for. It looks like he is making strides because he had such a horrendous year last year.

Game planning, adjustments, whatever you would like to provide. There is game planning involved in basketball. Most coaches will have their staff watch film and try to devise ways to give their team an advantage. Like knowing that Kansas lives and dies by the three, so maybe they shouldn't let them shoot 35 threes and actually try to run them off the line. Little things like that. If he is doing such a great job it should be quite easy to find many examples of in game adjustment. Do we not expect in game adjustment from our football coaches? Do we not speak at great lengths about what was and wasn't done from one half to the next? Don't understand why basketball would be any different.

Not a game. Great help defense? Great ball movement? Going into each game, what facet can you say a Shaka team is going to do consistently well?

Texas rarely had successful teams with its best NBA level prospects.

That's what I cheer for, not a coach. Shaka has done less with more than any coach I have ever seen. He's recruited well, then he's failed when coaching becomes necessary. Poor guy needs a pat on his head.

Really? Kentucky won a MNC while on vacation? Bagley, Alton, porter considered this a vacation too? Interesting

How on earth did they luck into those six group one RPI team wins?

Has Shaka met the expectations obviously not, but to cry and wish for him to be fired when he’s not going to be is stupid. Who’s gonna write the 16 million dollar check? Just support the damn team.

The team is 16-11. Is Andrew Jones worth two wins?

Minds have been made up and in this world we live in now, it'shard to change them once they've been made.

I'm guilty of it as well.
