Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (The best hire of Tom Herman's career?)

I think he has to win it IMO..... Just getting there is not going to be enough based on the obvious the relationship is strained between him and all parties involved.
I think CDC is going to have 1 hell of a decision to make if Herman somehow goes 8-2 and makes the B12 game. Retain Herman an piss off the BMDs and majority of the fan base. Or fire him, bringing an unflattering look to Texas, CDC etc after he goes 8-2 and a spot in the B12 game.

Which game weren't they impressive in? It sure wasn't this weekend...
Shouldn’t we be pumping the brakes on Ash until next year? This is awfully reminiscent of Orlando, Diaz, Bedford, etc.. They all struggled during their sophmore campaigns and never recovered. But in year one everyone wanted to make them the next head coach in waiting. Fool me once..

Ash is good. Tom is very bad. Would like to see Ash survive the termination of Herman.

I saw that show when I was a kid, but I don't recall much from it.

I wonder if Meyer will like card more...
Well the Chuck Barris part was a joke but that man was very talented as a show developer.

I’m ready for Card myself

C’mon @Ketchum - where is Peter Tamarkin of Press Your Luck!

RIP Alex Trebeck...but Richard Dawson got to kiss everything thst had breasts...and of course Bob Barker nailed every female employee on the staff...so he’s got that going for him

That was an absolutely great Bob Stoops question...but I can’t help but wonder If that University of Texas softness would have washed all over him like it does everything associated with Texas athletics.
(Except the volleyball program....I don’t think that guy gives zero fvcks)

That is not anything I have ever said.
Absolutely untrue. I asked you about covering volleyball and women’s basketball since they were successful. You said that you had taken a poll and there was not interest on OB for it. I really can’t believe that you are not man enough to admit an error.

It has been about 1000X here by the mods and the quality posters here that CTH doesn’t have anyone left in his corner......he’s done this year if you’re paying any attention at all.

Urban Meyer says he is elite, that’s all we need to know LOL......

I think too much has happened. There's too much unhappiness.
You are generally conservative in your words on this type of topic.

I might be reading too much in to this, but your statement here, along with your things Urban might do with staff or Card vs Sam, seem very telling about things you are hearing from people that matter and that will be in the room when things go down.

Am I reading too much in to it?

Another site is suggesting Urban is less and less likely .. anything you've heard that makes you think this is true if a change is made @Ketchum

Ketch- from what I can gather, two horrendous CTH decisions crystallized the Donor‘s and Admin‘s desire to can Herman:

1) His handling of the Eyes and the player‘s response turned the donors, and
2) His, or his agent’s, playing hardball about the Covid pay cuts and forcing the later, quiet, reinstatement of the money soured CDC and the Admin.

Theoretically, If either of those situations had been handled correctly, would he have been safe by making the CCG, regardless of the CC or Bowl outcomes?

Development.

It's that thing that occurs when players are better in November than they were in September. It's that thing that occurs when a player like Mitchell can be trusted in game No. 7 when you weren't sure he could stay on the field in week two without costing the team seven points. It's also that thing that occurs when you're left wondering how a defense that gave up 142 points in a three-game stretch from game No. 2-No. 4, but has only given up 63 in the three games that followed.

D-E-V-E-L-O-P-M-E-N-T.
I agree with all your observations in the lede section, but there's one other element involved.

There's a lot of mocking of Herman on this board for continually talking about missing spring practice, off-season training and totally improvising preseason camp, but the fact is, there's no way that missing that much concentrated work together as a team with new offensive and defensive coordinators doesn't affect the way the team executes when the well-damn-it-looks-like-we're-playing season starts.

Seven games into the season, the team is now starting to catch up on all the missed reps and is now reacting within the schemes rather than just trying to learn them. And all the new coaches have had to learn about their players in games rather than practices. Now they know alot better what they can do with whom, what works and what doesn't. And now they're able to scheme with that knowledge.

Obviously, the progress is a lot more conspicuous on defense. But hats off to Chris Ash, his unit is affirming his reputation as great coordinator. And hats off to Mark Hagen and Oscar Giles. Multiple guys along the defensive line are playing a lot better and show improvement from game to game. And the same for Coleman Hutzler and the linebackers.

I thought the offense would be playing better long before now, and I thought Sam Ehlinger would thrive under Mike Yurcich. It appears we may have found where Ehlinger's ceiling is, and it may well be that he just isn't suited to some of the throws that Yurcich's scheme emphasizes.

But hopefully we saw the running game rounding into form against West Virginia.

@Ketchum Sam coming back for a 4th year would be selfish. I love Sam, but I think he knows that he needs to move on. The football program needs him to move on, for the continuity of the program. He had his 4 years. This season isn't going how anyone would hope, but that's mainly on Sam.

CT and HC deserve their shot after this season.

If we win the Big 12, Tom stays. As he should. Anything less, he goes, as he should. It's not that hard.
