Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (The times are a-changin')

With all due respect to Britt Hagar, who has several UT records, I think Derrick Johnson should be the second defensive player with his number retired…best LB I’ve ever seen in a UT uniform.

(Sell) The thing that is supposed to make Sark a guy worthy of running a program is his ability to run the offense at an elite level.

@Ketchum, I think Jimbo was the last national championship team where the head coach was calling the plays.

That just seems like a dated concept. Not to mention, Sark hasn’t shown he’s capable of doing both. He’s no Lincoln Riley.

As you said, there has never been another Earl. Good job!

* Has anyone ever met an LA Chargers fan? I can only imagine how they are still feeling. How did that happen?
I’m an old Houston Oilers AND KC Chiefs fan - I know EXACTLY how they are feeling. Like a avalanche that just buries your fan-soul…
* Arsenal is going to win the Premier League. I can't believe I just typed those words.
You scoffed at me when I said they’d be top four to start the season - don’t jinx us with your scouser angst.
1. Earl Campbell (Tyler John Tyler)

@Ketchum

Here’s a question for you that I saw on Twitter this week? What’s the greatest pair of backs on the same college team at the same time? I say Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders - what say you?

I hate ou and Billy Sims and his obnoxious behavior at the Heisman ceremony every year
But it would be hard for me to vote Jamal Charles ahead of him

As usual great write up

No running back in NFL history (post-1960) has ever averaged more yards per carry in a career than Charles, who was a three-time All-Pro and totaled more than 10,000 all-purpose offensive yards in his career.

Ketch- I find it interesting that AJ Milwee isn't being groomed by Sark to call plays. He's been with him for a while now.
exactly GIF

We need to be very comfortable not seeing conference titles. Of course, given we only one a decade now I guess we are all used to it by now, but if we cannot win this shitty concerned we have no shot in the sec.
No one remembers who wins conference titles in college basketball. I think the same is going to eventually take place in college football.

Spot on take on what the measure of future success will be. I hadn’t thought about how much a 12-team playoff changes expectations for Texas (and everyone else). That’s what I pay OB for! That said, like last week, if you had a different No. 1 on your Top 10 list, it would have been time to cancel that sub. For all the great plays when Earl pancaked tacklers, one of his most memorable runs for me was the Monday Night game against Miami when he went the distance down the sideline for a long TD. Jim Brown is the only other runner with his combination of power and speed.
Earl was so violent that the NFL really doesn't try to showcase some of his plays any more because those runs took years off of lives.

upset?

“* I'm prepared for the worst as a Cowboys fan. I know how this season ends, whether it's on Monday night or the following week. “

Unfortunately many of us olds that have followed the Cowboys since their inception have known this ultimate and honest reality for the past 6 weeks. It’s just another year of frustration with the post Landry/ Jimmy Johnson years. Jerry just can’t figure out that he needs a real GM and a real Head Coach.
Upset?

Not really. I've come to terms with my fate.

If you take away the thing that is supposed to be Sark's greatest strength, what is left?

Has to be Thomas and Sanders.

I agree that making the 12 team playoff is the goal starting in 2024.

But the thinking needs a tad of refinement. Since the top 6 ranked conference champions are included in the 12 team playoff field automatically each year, almost assuredly one to three of those teams will not be in the Top 12 in the rankings each year. So I believe the goal needs to be in the Top 9 or Top 10 each year to guarantee a playoff spot. Stated another way, starting in 2025, if we don't win the SEC, our goal is to be one of the six best teams that doesn't win a conference title.

Top 3-4 in the SEC should get in the top 12 every year.

1, 5 and 6 were all SEC this year. LSU was No.17 with 4 losses.

@Ketchum the OU haul and roster overturn is alarming and something we should be prepared for. 7 starters sounds like a solid upgrade.

But I guess it always comes back to the Qb.

With a season similar to the one that he just enjoyed, returning All-American Jaylan Ford will have a chance to place his name in some rarified air.

Nobis ... Johnson ... Ford.

That's the legacy that Ford is playing for in 2023.
Given that rarified air, is #60 a possibility for his senior year?
