Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (The underwhelming-ness of it all...)

Ketch I thought you had a better understanding of D1 football and rebuilding a team after 8 years of getting worse every year. For one thing the teams that Texas has on it's schedule aren't pushovers and I think we have given a good account of ourselves. Having said that the one problem that I see is Herman's mistake with the OC. Beck isn't a D1 OC and it not even close. He has talent but his system doesn't take advantage of the talent. This year is lost and I hope he sees his mistake and I think he does. Herman isn't going to throw Beck under the bus in public but I do think there will be some change for the rest of the games. Rebuild doesn't happen over night so we need to give him so space.

Agreed. Sometimes having the smartest guy in the room presents a different set of concerns than normal.

I was talking to some buddies and I mentioned to them that he could be wanting to show Meyer that it wasn't Beck that was the problem at Ohio Sate last year and that Beck would be successful under him as a HC. I know I'm probably way off but thoughts?

Ketch, didn't some of the other services have him rated as a 4 star. What has happened to him?
He wasn't a high level player in high school and I kind of view him as a 3-4 year project.

Didn’t affect Sam Bradford . Sorry but you’ve got this one wrong. You don’t need more film on a top 10 player at line and Williams isn’t risking another injury and then being labeled injury prone.

He’s gone.
You're just hoping dirt burglar. It should've impacted Bradford, he's missed more games than he's played in the NFL and sucks when actually sees the field. Tell James Hale hello.

Not sure if you're agreeing with me, but you know as well as anyone skipping out on Jerod Evans at the time was criminal.

Even if a new guy can't win the job, we need a QB stopgap badly even if it all it does is put separation between Ehlinger and Rising.
Yes, I was agreeing with you. My comment was directed towards the program repeatedly ignoring what is obvious to the most casual observer.

Jerrod was ours for the taking but Charlie shit the bed by not pursuing him.

I think PJ has been too harshly judged this season.

Ketch,

Perhaps you are right, or have information that we do not have. I am aware that at times the guy that is trailing on the long pass is there because he is trying to make up for a mistake made by others, and just happens to be caught up in the video. I am hopeful that he does continue to develop.

It appears that our string of mediocre QB’s came during the time of the most talented quarterbacks in Texas HS history.

A possible three Heisman Trophy winners within a one hundred mile radius of Austin plus Luck, Stafford, Dalton, Keenum, Barrett, Hurts, Stidham, etc.

I think he's had a few rough moments, but for the most part, he has been a very good player.

It defies logic.

Sorry, I know you didn't say rebuild overnight. I wasn't clear on that statement which i meant for others who think that it happens by simply hiring a different coach. My apologies.

no worries. I got you.

Agree. In addition to Juco players, high-level recruits would work (national top-fifty types). I'm talking immediate difference makers. Admittedly, there aren't many of those, but we hired Herman with the expectation that he recruit in the stratosphere with Myer and Saban. And, we need more than just offensive lineman. Another QB, for example, would be a good idea, especially if Sam goes on a year-long concussion protocol and Shane remains very injury-prone (and I think he will).
The top 60-75 prospect in the nation are different than everyone else. The No.90 player is more like the No.500 player than the No.50.

Bedlam was a good game. Ou fans are definitely excited to have loads of talent on O. 3 RBs that can take it to the house, 3 WRs, 2 Deep OL, 3 TEs/HBs, and a Heisman QB. Loaded. So much easier for Lincoln to call plays when you have to cover the whole field and your OL is kicking ass.

The liability in Norman is the defense.

We aren't automatically getting 2 or 3 stellar Offensive Linemen every year like we once did. I'm not sure why that is. Vince and Colt in succession was a rarity too. That streak ended with the Garrett Gilbert disappointment. I got no answers. Just know the wait is not over.
