Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (They are who we thought they were)

the Aggies might have the best defense in the state of Texas. That’s a sentence I never thought I would write.

@Ketchum shouldnt Strong get fired based on this alone? I mean almost 3 years in and Aggies have better defensive unit than Texas, and that's supposed to be Strong's value?

Also, Chiefs defense (or debacle of Jets offensive) also cost me certain victory. Was 27 point favorite to win FF game this weekend and those extra 25 points were a killer....that and Cowboys allowing Miller to score 27.

Jordan Morris has 11 call ups under his belt and a goal vs Mexico....but you are right his season has gone well....

Jordan Morris has already been capped 11 times with the national team. Klinsmann actually deserves a lot of credit for giving a college kid a chance. He's a lock for the upcoming qualifier roster barring injury.

when you look at the Texas defense right now, it features a line that doesn’t rush the passer well, a linebacker unit that isn’t making any game-changing plays and a secondary that seems to have a constant revolving door of personnel.
Our inability to get off the field on 3rd and long is excruciating. The other team routinely converts 3 and 7 or 3rd and 13 like it's 3rd and inches. If this trend continues, I can't wait for Charlie to be gone.

Also, we were giving Mack more chances when we might have been able to get Urban Meyer. If we shuffle our feet on Herman while we are waiting for Charlie to figure it out, I am going to be pissed.

You are overrating A&M and their defense. Sure the goalline stands and forced fumble as Arkansas was about to score were impressive, but Arkansas repeadetly shot themselves in the foot and the Ags gave up only 16 less yards of total offense than we did against Cal in a game we are considering an abomination by our D (I agree on that).

I see us going into OU weekend at 3-1. We'll respond this week; and I see us even money against OU next.

Buy or Sell?

Sell -- I have zero confidence in CS's ability to turn the D around, and I am worried about SB's ribs. If he goes down in the first half, this is a blowout for osu. If he plays but is injured, well.... we saw what happened at Cal.

I am so disappointed in this year's D -- I really thought the back 7 would make up for deficiencies in the D-Line. I couldn't have been more wrong. These are talented kids who have no idea what they are doing on the field -- and that's coaching that can't "be fixed" by the current coaches who made them that way.

But I hope I'm wrong.

Hook 'em!!!

Aggy D Line is the difference. We don't have the upper classmen leading the way there that they do. Our back 7 has been the real disappointment to me. LBs have got to play much, much better or this will be a terrible season.

So, let me ask you ... what has to happen by the end of the season for you to give Charlie Strong the same type of grade as a "defensive-fixer-upper" that Robinson received when he came off the street three years ago and somewhat saved the Texas season?

This is apples and oranges when comparing the two situations. Strong has had full control over both sides of the ball as a head coach for the past three years. If he wanted to make some obvious changes after the blowouts, shutouts, and defensive embarrassments he would have by now. You don't let $hit like TCU or Iowa State happen last year without taking some kind of responsibility...especially for the side of the ball that made you the man in the game.

Let's say Sonny Dykes had a team running one of the worst offenses in America, and he was brought in as an offensive guru. Three years in to his coaching stint, they're still one of the worst in the country. Wouldn't it sound absurd for Dykes to say that he was just now getting more involved into the situation like an outside consultant? Hopefully Strong's "new" participation makes a difference, but it would be a total head scratcher as to why he didn't start to take more responsibility after the D became the worst in history for consecutive years.

I agree about your comments on Harbaugh being worth the money and that Zimmer is one of best coaches in NFL.

Chavis leaves Aggies after this season---along with his 2 Defensive ends, IMO.

Texas might face 4 1st-2nd round NFL QB picks this year---Kizer, Webb, Mahomes and Rudolph

The only part I would change about your entire TTFTW is this:

"Minnesota went to Carolina without Teddy Bridgewater AND ADRIAN "FREAKIN'" PETERSON and dominated Carolina...

Why is it a given OSU is going to put 40 on Texas ...in 2014 OSU scored 7 points in 2015 OSU scored 30 ..Texas has just as much talent on defense as Baylor and way more dept to sub out on the D line... I get it Cal put up 50 points on us but its not like Cal offense is chopped liver... I also would not call Mason Rudolph David Webb either...

Agree, OkSt has never scored 40 on Bedford/Strong's D, not sure why it's a given.

@Ketchum

1. When you say Strong has had in game management issues what specific incidents/plays are you referring to?

2. It does appear Sumlin will be back in 2017 that is probably not a bad thing.

3. Sumlin & Chavis vs Strong & Bedford who you taking?

I still believe we stay in the hunt for the Big 12 title. The competition is very flawed and we have weapons that are difference makers.

I hear some of these great quotes from Joel Osteen every Sunday morning at church and they are very inspiring. That is why I say things are going to turn around for the Texas Longhorns and all the doubter are going to say My God what just happen. Believe for a better future for your team and stop tearing them down.

LSU needs to hire Chavis back as their head coach, what you think????

I think everyone including our Leader needs to take a chill pill. It's one game and Yes it was bad. But Charlie is a D coach, and knows this is his last chance to show up or go home. Lets see what this week brings before we all Start going "Bat-shit Crazy!"

Considering how terrible this defense has been for the last 2+ seasons I am astounded that people were talking such ridiculousness as conference titles and playoff appearances.

When you consider the results on the field compared to the amount of money UT has paid its current coaching stiff it's pretty easy to make a claim that this dude is easily the worst coaching hire in the history of the program. The earlier he gets shown the exit the better.
