Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (What happened in Waco should be personal for all of us...)

I'm pretty confident the NCAA will do absolutely nothing. What happened in Waco is a disgrace to mankind. That is one sick Baptist university

The NCAA won't, and shouldn't do anything to Baylor. Baylor involves crimes, felonies, and the lack of compliance to federal regulations. The NCAA isn't a police force, it's not a federal court, and they shouldn't try to be. They should only be concerned with members following the rules of their voluntary organization, recruiting rules, scheduling rules, coaching staff rules, practice rules, approving too many bowl games, etc.

Baylor should be held accountable for Title IX violations by the federal government. Rapists should go to jail. Those who covered up, interfered with, or gave false information to law enforcement should go to jail. And that includes local law enforcement and prosecutors who helped hide these crimes.

What happened at Baylor is over the NCAA's head. It's much bigger than a member of club disobeying the club's rules. The NCAA doesn't have subpoena power, they couldn't prosecute the Baylor case if they wanted to.

Glad to see you admit your mistake re Aus Open and also Liverpool, a lesser man would have let both slide by with no mention
a. Super glad to be wrong. Just didn't think a run to the final was in the cards for either.

b. Good or bad, I usually own my sports team's failures, for better or for worse. For God sake, I'm a 76ers fan.

So I gave you my personal opinion and you feel like a personal attack is an answer?
I did not attack you. I suggested that what you wrote ("Now let that shit go! Enough already.") is something that a Baylor fan might have said a year ago. As I stated in my column, we owe it to the victims to ask questions about those that were involved in the program at that level for the entirety of that scandal.

Good lord, hey Horny I wish you nothing but the same torment that you brought down upon those victims yourself. I only wish that Horny gets back what he dished out. What a piece of shit.
Herman is responsible for this shit stain on the University of Texas! Dissapointment doesn't even begin to describe the feelings I have for Herman right now.

… So, this is what it’s like to be a Liverpool fan? It’s a little like being a Dallas Cowboys fan.
Don't ever say I didn't warn you ;)

You made a horrible choice a couple of years ago. As predicted, at this rate your interest in the EPL should wane to around zero within the next 2 seasons -- what a shame...

Known Briles apologist.

Apologist, not any more, but I do admit to having a somewhat different perspective than most on OB as we share mutual life long friends. They don't know what to believe about Briles, either and have known him over 50 years and all played ball together at some point. None of these guys are apologists for Briles now and are as disgusted as everyone else that's following this story. Take that as you wish as my position on the matter.

The victims deserve more than that from us and if that proves to be an inconvenience to football-related thinking, well, too damn bad.
Ketchum, "The loud and self-righteous people always seem to think they're standing up for important principles." Perhaps you should (again) consider moving forward (like UT has) along with 99% of the free world... Signed, UTwiz

I'm all-in. One day, the sun will shine.

I feel for all the kids at Baylor as it has shed a bad light on the WHOLE student body and Alums. You of all people know I'm a long time fan of OB (one of your longest subs) and UT. Would you like to see all your subs to go to Waco and protest? Damn get a grip man! If the people who were involved don't get punished for what they did there is nothing you, I or anyone will be able to do about it.

If this matter (somewhat similar to the Penn State Paterno & Sandusky matter) sheds bad light on the WHOLE Baylor student body and Alums, then the WHOLE Baylor student body, Alums, Waco residents, etc. MUST get involved by protesting, etc. to oust and/or prosecute all individuals involved in letting these criminal acts go on and/or had knowledge (or should have knowledge) of any of these acts. That is what "good" people (especially those who have ties to Baylor) should do AND not keep on backing the Baylor administration, sweeping things under the rug, and/or ignoring the news so that it will go away. As you know, there were many Baylor students, admin and alums who backed Briles, Starr, etc. after the original news came out instead of trying to find out all of the news.

Once the site crashes on NSD can we not get the bs "we should be better" apologies?

Just come out and say "what else were you guys expecting?"
raw

I like the idea that if it starts crashing someone should make a thread entitled" if you can see this post tits" and go from there

Appreciate the response @Dos Horns and my apologies on the previous inflammatory response.

"… The Williams sisters are the greatest story in American sports history. This weekend might have been the final chapter of the Disney movie that will eventually be made about the two."

Nope, nope nope.

May be the biggest hyperbole ever for Ketch. I can think of many sports stories greater but will just remind Ketch of an Olympic sprinter and long jumper in 1936

Let me tell you a story.

It's about two poor girls from inner city L.A. Coached by their father and without any of the advantages that most of their peers enjoyed, the two girls turned into two of the top 10 players in the history of their sport, currently combining for 30 major singles titles, 14 major doubles titles and a slew of Olympic medals. The younger sister is the greatest performer in the history of the sport.

After all these years of dominance, they just met in a major final in their mid 30s.

With all due respect to Jessie Owens, he has nothing on these two.

I can't wait for spring practices
Plenty of football talk to go around. Feel free to engage on anything in sections 2-8 (minus UT basketball).;)

Love the Bieber picture. I can't wait for the Spring game to get here. Out by the fire, we are finding it hard to lay off the kook aid.

The NCAA is a fraud. It uses its claims of caring about student-athletes as cover for its true purpose... printing money.

There were NCAA athletes raped in Waco. None have received protection.

a complete and utter joke. disgusting really.

penn st and baylor both show that the org is there for nothing but money.

.. and if it's outside of your purview.. make it part of it.

True, but like someone mentioned above, the NCAA does not have much legal power. With regard to the Penn State and Baylor matters, I put most of the blame on those schools' administrations (such as the ADs, school presidents, towns' police, etc.) b/c they did NOT do their part to prevent other acts from being committed after they found about the initial act(s).

Herman is the Coach & I trust his decision

Here's the thing if you mess w sh*t you get it on you. THAT doesn't mean that he didnt make mistakes, wasn't a good person in a bad situation & doesn't deserve an opportunity to redeem himself.

Herman HAS addressed the issue EXTENSIVELY & Perrin has made a statement. Herman has been on the radio, in print, & TV & addressed the hire extensively.

EXTENSIVELY!!!

I dig where you're coming from but have to disagree that the Jessie Owens story has nothing on the Williams sisters story. Maybe being an old gives me a perspective that you can't fully or reasonably grasp about the distinction. The world was a very different place in 1936 than in 1980 and subsequently, let me try to sum it up that way. It adds a degree and dimension that just isn't quite there in the same way in the second story. No disrespect Ketch.

And..... back to publicly slandering Horny. I hope you guys never sit on a jury anytime soon. I would love to see you man up Ketch and actually go to Hermans next presser and express your feelings directly to him , rather than continue blast him directly or indirectly over your site.

Peace out

Exactly. And if the poster cannot figure that difference out then shame on him.

Maybe this will bring back a memory for him Ketch " Can't we just talk about football".....

Sincerely, Art Briles.

I concur. It is a hard thing indeed when you know someone and then find out he isn't quite the person you thought you knew.....It can sometimes force you to think and wonder what went wrong.

I totally get the Baylor situation and what I don't get is why the NCAA continues to turn it's ugly head to the ugly mess in Waco. It's time for all the large schools to get rid of the NCAA and form their own governing body. That poor girl that you mentioned should have the protection she deserves from the monster and Baylor should receive the death penalty in football. What they did is 10 times worse that what SMU did to get the death penalty.

Ketch,
First, this was the best article that I have read from you, period. As a father of a beautiful daughter, the very thought of this kind of acute and chronic abuse is beyond my ability to handle. No human being should EVER be raped, and the continued harassment is as worse and horrific. Well done sir.
Being the eternal optimist I still cling to the hope that we will make a sudden move close to or on signing day. Just like unreal expectations of winning Power ball I will stick with this to the bitter end. Either way I am happy we have Coach Herman. Hook Em
