Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend

Awesome report. after looking at the roster, seems like a significant # of players are not of “SEC“ caliber” and eventually wont make the cut. What “managed” attrition occurs with red shirt freshmen, linemen and d-line to free up roster spots?
I'm not sure what you're asking.

@Ketchum lets assume the new WR coach Brennan Marion from Pitt. Is Sark waiting to see if he can bring Pitt star WR Jordan Addison with him before making a move for the UTEP Wr in portal? Could that be a case Sark would take 2 Wr?
I think there's a world where if the right two guys are available, he might. I couldn't turn those two down.

9. Penny Lane
10. Chains

You can probably tell that I’m more of an early Beatles guy. I can still remember playing my dads Beatles records when I was a kid. Great memories.
Great list!

If Luke B starts again WE ARE IN TROUBLE. Ford should be only one listed there. I would think Cook moves to Safety and Jamison moves to Nickel. Watts and Barron are best two CB's on this team with Brooks hopefully close 3rd.
All of those things could happen. I just don't know that I'm moving my best nickel player away from nickel.

I also have questions about whether Watts is more of a corner than safety.

Has anyone in the college football modern era played both ways at DLine and TE? Would it be too much to handle for J. Sanders to go both ways? Thoughts? Seems like a good sell for NFL draft status.
Very, very, very rare.

I know these OL RECRUITS are Freshmen, but Flood didn’t score High B/C, he promised early playing time, while players like Banks and Campbell I’ll struggle mightily they will not red shirt. If you put the same ole guys out there we will be lucky to win 6. You may as well give them early playing time so that following year they can grow into All Americans. Everyone on this board believes Banks and Williams are guards, they can’t be any worse than what we had in place. For sure Banks will be our starting LT, as the picking in the TP. IF YOUR GOING TO BE A LOSING TEAM LOSE WITH THE YOUNG ONES.

Oh, you might very well be right. I just have a hard time expecting them to come in and play when it's so rare that guys are ready from jump street.

Ketch,

this “giving up on Card” is just in your head (unless you have inside information”

I have listened to the YouTubes but you are just making this up.

FACT
It is the job of every football coach to recruit the best players and let the best man win. PERIOD

FACT
It is not the responsibility of the coaches to hold open a position until a player “is ready”. The best player plays. If Card is better he will play. This conspiracy is in your head.

FACT
Card looked comfortable in the pocket in 1 game. The WV game where he got hurt. Shame he didn’t get to finish that game and the season because then talking heads like yourself would talk about a QB battle as opposed to “the coaches have given up on him” BS which there is ZERO evidence to support.

you like to say “what other position would the coaches give up on a player” but I would actually rebuff with the obvious, In what other position is bringing in talent seen as “giving up” on more senior players? It’s literally the coaches job!!!!!!

Sark gave up on the kid last season and Card knows it. 7+ quarters is what he got.

Jett Bush or Finkley starting at Edge? Finkley is enrolling in Jan and has some deserved hype coming in, but he's still just a freshman. What about Dorbah or Harris who have had a year or two in a college lifting program? We're in real trouble if Jett Bush is our starting Edge.
What about them? Neither have really made a dent so far, although Harris has flashed.

No Jaylin Ford? He was our best looking LB this season.

And Banks is the most LT capable recruit Texas has signed in a long time.
A. He could easily be in that spot. It doesn't change the need to make an upgrade.

b. we shall see.

i don’t think it’s a mail in the coffin statement for Card so much as a vote hell to the yeah Ewers.

Card is in the Matt Cassel USC years mode. or Shane backing up Sam. His job is to prepare like a starter. Be ready if Ewers gets hurt. Which seems probable given our line. Then he grad transfers to some school he can showcase his improvement as a player. QB2 is a legit role.

But for Card to actually start game one it would mean Ewers sucked in Spring and Fall camp Annnnd Card would have to look lights out. and even then, you’d have to give Ewers the start to see what happens when the lights come on.

It is interesting to me that we never hear or see any statistics about Orangebloods and it paid subscription base. Any reason why Ketch does not release that data? I assume it must be maid available to possible sponsors, right, so they know what there exposure is?

Random.

Surprised you don't see Banks as a LT. Every other service puts him there (I thought Suchomel did too but could be wrong) and a couple have quotes from college coaches (not named) and a couple of analysts that talk about his unique qualities necessary for LT.

Hope I'm wrong. It would be nice.

Chris didn't have Jamaal's straight-line speed (back in '66 or '67 I read that he ran 100 yards in 10.5 seconds), but indeed he was extremely quick and had exceptional balance, and probably vision as well. He also seemed surprisingly strong for a man of 180 pounds. I remember a number of his many long runs--a delight to see in person and, if I could only listen on the radio, to hear and envision.
I wish there was a Gilbert highlight tape on Youtube we could all watch.

All these DL 1 has to be able to rush the passer. We need a Edge/LB to come in and replace Bush and Brock. We need a LT and WR done. Fix those spots and we should not have an issue winning the conference.
No, it's a little more nuanced than that.

Sure, but neither have the 3 true freshman you mentioned. Most guys don't come in and make an impact as a true freshman. Hopefully Dorbah or Harris breakout this season.

Great write up on Christmas weekend! Thank you Ketch, and great job on Beatles break down! That’s not easy to do.
It was a thankless task, but someone had to do it. ;)

It’s funny that @Ketchum has been doing these Top 10 list for what seems like years and they are based on HIS opinion. Yet so many people attack his list like he was committing some kind of fraud. OMG! He gets more replies and feedback many times on his list than the previous 9 thoughts.
I’m not huge into music so I often gloss over this part of the write-up. This week however I read it and all the replies. It probably needs to be its own thread.
Of all of the list that anyone could compile, I feel that a Top 10 Beatles songs is practically impossible considering the depth of the success they had in such a short time.
They had 20 #1 songs and 23 songs are in the Billboards all time too 500 songs.

According to Billboard Hey Jude is their greatest Hit.

But for me Revolution is my favorite.

You cannot go wrong with any Top 10 Beatles play list. Only a few others bands or artist can say that

Any Beatles list of songs is a great list and I'm sure everyone's personal list is different.

For example, the most played Beatles' song on Spotify is "Here Comes the Sun" by George Harrison and it's not even close, played about twice as much as the second most played Beatles' song.

I understand your sentiments. I only had 10 spots.

Here in lies the problem with trying to rank the Beatles. From Feb 1964 to June 1970 they had 20 songs that sat on top of the billboard hits list. That is just crazy that they have more #1 hits than any other artists and they did it in a little over 6 years. To narrow their entire library down to a top 10 is crazy.
