Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend: 24 Hours Later...

Last night's game was ugly for sure, but IMO we would have won had Casey started the second half. Sark needs to get over his ego and let the guy play who earned it.
Texas was not coming back from 16-0. That game was over, but I'd still like to have seen Thompson given the chance.

I doubt it. Those people are very confident people and typically hold out hope until the very bitter end.

Lets play a game. Assume Urban discovers the NFL is not for him. Sark goes 8-4 this season and 9-3 in 2022. December 2022 Urban calls Texas and says I want the job... What does Texas do?

B/S Emotion plays a large part of college football.
B/S you could tell it was going to be a long day when the refs were letting Arkansas play after the play was over.
B/S Letting Arkansas throw Texas players to the ground or hitting them after the play was over just fed the emotions of Arkansas, which wasn’t needed.
B/S Arkansas was much more up for this game. We wanted to win. They wanted to kill us.

I tend to agree with @Ketchum. Sark is known somewhat like a quarterback whisperer. And he whispered Card less than a month ago.

Doesn’t a change at QB admit that he isn’t the quarterback whisperer everyone proclaims him to be?

It sounds like you are saying “since I don’t want to admit I was wrong, Sark should not admit he was wrong, and saving face is more important than winning games”. What more could Casey do to make it clearer he should be leading this team? As Anwar pointed out, the facts are inescapable. But, they don’t fit the narrative, so reality be damned. We’ve been conditioned to ignore hard reality coming at us, right in front of our eyes, in favor of accepting the agenda of a fantasy world.
That's not what I'm saying.

Excellent use of an AFTV clip.

I laughed, then cried because we have way too much in common with Arsenal.

It means he was woefully wrong about the single biggest decision he's had to make as head coach thus far. It's a criminal indictment, especially since he gave some of Thompson's reps during August to Wright.

What coach do you know admits being wrong quickly?
Whether he admits it or not, our eyes saw what they saw. Continuing with Card if there isn’t dramatic improvement and we experience another loss like say TCU that is pinned partially on QB play/offensive lack of productivity will be a catastrophic blow to Sark’s overall future here. Tom’s biggest failure was his unwillingness to make changes when he thought he was right. Play them both or switch whoever is the hot hand I don’t give a damn as long as we move the ball. Last night can’t happen again. I’d prefer to have a guy we stick with but if one guy isn’t getting it done, put the other one in before it’s too late. Right now Casey has earned the starter reps and he should keep it til he plays poorly.

Don't you have to factor in who's the best QB given the disastrous OL situation?

If you have a bad OL you really need a QB who's a legit running threat. Whoever starts at QB will be running for their life most games.
Again, I wish we had seen Thompson at the start of the third quarter. It would have made for a more apples to apples conversation.

Casey was 5 of 8 for 122 quarterback rating and his first touchdown drive was aided by 30 penalty yards.

I'd like to have seen a much larger sample size.

(Buy) I'll just let the facts speak for themselves. In my 25 years of doing rankings, all six of the quarterbacks I've ever ranked as five-stars that have finished their eligibility have played in the NFL and five of the six were drafted by NFL teams. If we extend the list to quarterbacks I've rated as high four-stars, the numbers are eight of 11 of the highest-ranked quarterbacks I've ever evaluated have played in the NFL. If we extend the data to include all mid four-star quarterbacks, the numbers turn into 11 of the 20 highest-ranked quarterbacks I've ever ranked have turned into NFL players.
By saying this, you are even including Gilbert as a “hit.” He is one of the biggest busts in Longhorn history, and you’re including him as a good call because he has somehow managed to have a long, but terrible NFL run.

I’m continually amazed at the lack of respect for Ash. If he had not been hurt in early 2013, Charlie Strong would not have replaced Mack Btown.

I thought Ash was going to be a great QB as he had both accuracy and arm strength. His sophomore season he completed 67.3% of his passes for 19 TDs against 8 INT. He averaged 8.6 yards per attempt and had a passing efficiency rating of 153.3. To put that in context, Colt’s career average was a rating of 155, and Sam’s was 148. There is no telling how good Ash might have been if healthy or playing on a better team.

Take him out.

It doesn't change the numbers significantly at all.

He was still an NFL drafted quarterback that has earned his pension in the league.

I just think it's too early to say that.
In 9 out of 10 possessions he has been given, he has led the team down for a score. 7 of those were touchdowns. In the one possession that wasn’t a score, Sark called 4 consequetive hand-off running plays, giving Casey exactly 0 chance to affect the drive. He is essentially perfect in a sample size of 10 possessions. Even your darling quarterback rating shows him to be superior. What else can he do? I just can’t understand not accepting the reality and facts staring you in the face. Saving face is not going to win games.

B/S-The cat got a louder ovation than the Miami football team!
B/S Bonus-If Manny Diaz’s defense was in charge of catching that cat, they would have wiffed!

Not based off of the previous six months prior to last night, no?
I haven’t witnessed practice but what I saw last night was pretty telling how TCU could go if we don’t have a qb who is ready for that kind of pressure and defense. This qb battle may be fluid throughout the season and we just ride the hot hand. Card missed way too many opportunities to still be considered the starter when Casey came in competed at a high level, moved the ball, and made some pretty badass runs to score. Perhaps he is named starter and we see one of his practice type performances but he looks like when the lights come on he elevates his game.
