I took that response to mean…”yes, they actually are right now.” I wasn’t confused at all.As in 5 seconds from now? Confusing response.

Agree. absent a health issue I think there is close to zero chance he would possibly retire. I wouldn’t bet anything on Saban retiring. He always adapts eventually and he’s too competitive to walk away over Jimbo. Saban wasn’t wrong about aggy at all. He’s hypocritical but he wasn’t wrong. The defending of Jimbo from some has been strange. He’s basically Kevin Sumlin at A&M that can recruit better when dropping bags that some idiots in the media pretends are NIL deals. Even their own AD admits most of the incoming guys dont have actual NIL dealsNot buying this is Saban's last season at Bama. He didn't like up tempo spread offenses, so he decided to become the best at it....4 Heisman Winners in the last 15 seasons at a school that had never had one. Let's not forget, despite Aggy finishing #1, Bama was right there at #2. If you listened to Saban's entire speech, it was as much a damning indictment of the NCAA for not enforcing the rules, as much as it was slamming the Aggies. NIL was originally meant to take care of the players on campus, and there is supposedly wording that directly speaks to it NOT being used as a recruiting inducement to HS kids...that obviously happened at A&M. Saban is very likely going to win another natty, and end up with a top 3 class, like always..
Sort of embarrassed to admit that I hadn’t ever heard the name “Ivan Melendez” before reading today’s post. Glad I did! Wishing the young man great success!
I'm guessing Beautiful Day is a song a lot of people would vote for.Great U2 song list, but I would’ve included Beautiful Day, and In God’s Country.
I don't think he's quite lived the experience yet. He's only in the middle of it, and thus, can't quite anticipate how he'll feel at the end.I disagree... Saban plans on staying.
Here is why...
"Saban told a group of local business leaders that "A&M bought every player" in its top-ranked 2022 recruiting class with "a deal for name, image, likeness."
He wasn't complaining or trying to change the system. He was recruiting.
The audience was local business leaders. It sounds to me like he was putting the smack down on his NIL money guys. He probably said that if Alabama wants to land 5* players, NIL money is a genuine requirement.
Manning will be there is a couple of weeks and someone must have an idea on how close they can get to what Arch's agent wants.
Saban wants this. So he wants to be there to have a Manning as a QB.
He's losing c-o-n-t-r-o-l.Not buying this is Saban's last season at Bama. Hard to argue that point, even a little. It's hilarious that Herman thought he was some kind of WR expert. He sucked ass at evaluating them and their coaches.
I think he's got to feel like he let one slip through his fingers. And Rory was -5 after Round 1
Brutal.Ivan’s season is so unbelievably historic that it has allowed Murphy Stehly to have one of the best offensive performances in the last decade plus at Texas go almost completely unrecognized. Think he is 9th all time now for most HR in a single season. Without looking I bet he will be all time top 10 single season at Texas in at least two other offensive categories as well.
With the spring evaluation over and him having been scouted extensively in person, it'll be easier to write/finish the story.I didn’t ask that question, but I’m still waiting.
A&M is less of an NIL power and more of a paying players creatively off the books (allegedly) kind of way.I suppose you are only counting over the counter legitimate NIL deals
Right now I might only put A&M on the list of NIL powers - maybe you aren’t counting that as NIL compensation- but I’m just looking at the results and you know better than anyone the value of all those five stars
I’m not saying Texas isn’t doing ok in NIL - second tier ? I just don’t see power
Ewers was a big pickup but was that really NIL related or out open depth chart / him wanting playing time / us being a big brand name and big potential stage / childhood favorite etc
When I think NIL power I think picking up players you wouldn’t have gotten otherwise - we’ve picked up some offensive players to an offense that had a good year last year
Zero, huh?Agree. absent a health issue I think there is close to zero chance he would possibly retire. I wouldn’t bet anything on Saban retiring. Emerged as a starter at center for the Longhorns at the end of his true freshman season. He's another player whose development over the course of the next two seasons will largely define how this class is remembered.
well, in that case, they are in the NIL powers club.In the new world with no ncaa oversight I’m not sure why I should care about the distinction
do not disagree, although I wish I could.Has a Patrick Vahe/Junior Angilau feel. A guy who people are a bit overimpressed with early because of what is surrounding him only to not really get better as he gets older.
(Buy) This is his last season at Alabama. This new NIL world is going to break him because of his inability to control the sport like he could before it arrived.
Last five songs out: Moment of Surrender, New Year's Day, All I Want is You, Vertigo and Walk On
Mondays aren't fun without running on at least a few ledges. That would be stunning.
He would probably start if he did which would greatly increase his NFL chances. I’d love to see what RoJo could do as the feature back. 1100 and 10TDs feels about right.
ketch you get props for even attempting a U2 top ten.
They are probably about 5 songs that have to be in the list and then about another 10-15 which could be on the list.
With or Without you for me has to be number 1.
Unless you were around when Joshua Tree came out you don't understand the power that album had. It was the GenX Sargent Pepper (but not quite that big).
I can't think of another band post U2 prime that was that big.
Saban might be hypocritical, but…is he wrong? Multiple current and past college head coaches and prominent college football commentators are pointing out that what Saban is claiming is still the truth, even if Bama also essentially did the same thing. And from my perspective…what part of his accusation is false?
Loved your post. U2 is the last historical monster rock band.
... I have no idea what's happening in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
I'm not sure there can even be a band like it any more. Different time and place. The flame is out IMO.Perhaps the only one on the same level over the last 35 years in terms of body of work and worldwide relevance throughout that time is Metallica. But U2 definitely took the torch passed to them at the time from the Police when they wrapped up their career after their monster Synchronicity tour.
🤷♂️ 🤷♂️ 🤷♂️Might wanna finally get on that. You follow every other sport that exists, but not the one with the best post season tournament.
It absolutely did.Scott Bryant's numbers in 1989 were video game like. Then, add in his versatility on the mound. That loss to the Shockers still hurts. I honestly believe the change in CWS format that year cost Texas another national title.
I'm with the guys that say Saban isn't retiring until some teams starts beating him on the regular. A couple of 4 loss seasons and he'll pull the ripcord, but as long as he is playing in the Natty every other year, he sticks around for a while (assuming no health problem forces his hand).

Yep. An overlooked amazing fact about U2 is that in over 45 years of existence, not a single lineup change. Incredible.
