Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (Addressing the elephant in the room)

(Buy) What he did in that role is almost unthinkable. I wonder if he’ll ever come close to delivering another performance like that in his lifetime.

I thought about this when I asked the question. There have been examples of this "shooting star" performance, and yet the actor or actress faded after that.

What immediately comes to mind is Brandon De Wilde who had a significant role in "Shane" and then soon disappeared. He came back for a brief moment in "In Harms Way" and played his part perfectly in almost perfect contradiction to Capt. Rockwell Torrey, one of John Wayne's best roles ever as Capt. Rockwell Torrey.

And so it goes for child actors and actresses. Please, give them their due when they earned it.

Hard to expect that they'll be elite-level impact guys in less than a year, no?
They don't have to be elite. If they can score 35 points a game they will be worth their weight in gold. If they can score 40 points a game they need statues erected somewhere on the 40 acres.

I completely agree with your statements that this could should be kept private until it plays out.

One question though for Ketch. Why did you retweet the story (from a very suspect site) which was full of innuendo last night? That's not keeping it private. Did you delete that or are you standing by it? Just curious because it really damages our efforts in recruiting and basically overall perception.

I can understand an aggy mod retweeting that to do damage to us....(right before one of the biggest recruiting weekends for 2017 guys)....but why you? Like I said, just wondering your angle on tweeting that article.

(Sell) I’ve yet to cover a Texas/Notre Dame game that has witnessed the Longhorns emerge as the winning team and I’m at the point now where I’ll believe it when I see it. The Irish will arrive as the more accomplished team with a huge edge at quarterback.

Yep, ND conveniently stayed clear of any contests with Texas during the Mack years when they were sub par and the Horns were winning.

Room was a powerful, powerful movie, and she justly deserves the Oscar.

But holy hell, Saoirse Ronan in Brooklyn was amazing as well. Subtle, like Michael Cane's great roles over his career. You don't even notice the "acting", and yet she is powerful in it.

Any other year and I'd say Ronan was robbed by not winning with that role. But Larson was just too powerful, and too dynamic, to not win the best actress.

I don't think that is hard to believe at all. Plenty of examples of teams installing variations of this offense and experiencing dramatic improvement.

In the first year of this offense, Tulsa added only 4 more offensive plays per game but added about 100 yards and 2 touchdowns per game. Considering they were already running a spread offense the previous year, whereas Texas was running an offense without any identity, the improvement is likely to be even more profound.

But if you are right, and Gilbert is just a guy, then we're looking at an entirely new staff a year from now.

BUY or SELL: Every year the Academy Awards fails to even nominate a great performance and this year they screwed up big time by not recognizing the masterful acting job of Jacob Tremblay (Room) as the little boy Jack?

I quit watching or putting any stock in the Oscars when Kurt Russell was not nominated for his flawless rendering of his role in Captain Ron. It is only one of two movies I have watched in its entirety in Spanish, the other being "Second Hand Lions."

NOT EVEN NOMINATED. And Will Smith's wife is bitching.

I don't understand how you can think Wickline was the best position coach. All we have heard over the last two years was how bad the offensive line was and confusing over him him not replacing the 2 ineffective seniors.

You referred to the coaching hire "upgrades". That sounds very presumptuous. Granted, in the situation with Watson, predicting an upgrade there would be pretty much a no brainer. However all of the other hires at this point are a crapshoot. Optimism is high for just about every school in the country from February to August, and then reality sets in as the season begins. That old phrase " I'm from Missouri" really has some meaning in this instance. Plus, just hoping Charlie didn't put him and his family and the school in a dramatic spot.

By "ice thinner" do you mean he'd have to win even more games next year to keep his job?
I think Alex has his finger on it. 9 is the number. Maybe 8, but it had better be a hell of an eight.

While I can appreciate some people trying to rationalize the situation and come to the conclusion that Mr. Blue is just trying to throw things around and see what sticks. We don't know what he knows or how he came to know it. What if his wife told him that she had an affair with Strong? What if he (with his financial resources) hired PI's to dig into his wife's background and activities and Strong's name is what they came up with? The guy seems to think or know that Strong had an affair with his wife. Even if the judge denies Mr. Blue's subpoena request, it still might not end there. Somebody might dig into this and make any findings public in the future. My point is, as a fan, I'd prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Needless to say, I hope it ends without Charlie needing to be involved.
Something is there IMO. The statements by Strong and Perrin said things without saying things.

It's very slim pickings, but I would suggest that the group with two true freshmen (first time in school history) starting every game played at a level that was better than other position groups when you consider the special circumstances.

They don't have to be elite to be a big improvement over what we've seen the last couple of years.
I'm not so sure it's that easy as they show up, and hey, the offense is averaging 30 per game.

Two reasons.

a. It was the first "national" type of site to pick up the news after it had been getting state wide run from the AAS, SANE and Chron.

b. There's an actual picture of the woman and Strong together inside the story, which I had not seen.

c. I think the role you think I play vs, the one I actually play is quite different. Trust me, it wasn't my retweet that harmed the perception of the program this weekend.

While Ketch was busy with the twins over the weekend, he missed some posts. The coUrT of public opinion, led by the prosecutor's of "CS, gotta,& go" with legal aid from "The Herman4Prez" club for men, have already frisked Charlie and found him wanting. The lead prosecutor, HH87, was seen late Sunday night pulled over on 610 south. Officers indicated he had a Macallan 18 on the dash, one hand on his johnson, and was staring at his new grill in the rear view. Officers indicated he had not actually pulled off of the highway. No ticket was issued as; well, he's hh87 and he don't need not stinking facts.

The upgrade at OC is perceived to be so large that if it's a wash everywhere else, it's still an upgrade, but your points are more than fair.

Actually, a ticket was written. I wrote it.

All in all, that was a negatively tinged collection of weekend thoughts.

Personally, I think our FB and BB teams are finally trending up.

Great 10 thoughts and thanks for the no soccer thoughts. Don't know if they player or not but thanks either way.

I started getting very worried about this when Strong didn't address the insinuations head-on and also take the platform to reiterate his Core Values. Like it or not, that is Strong's program foundation he created. If it turns out he's a hypocrite, I'm not sure how long he will last here, especially being 11-13 $10M into the job.

BJM > Gilbert because of recruiting...smh. The recurring false narrative here that recruiting skills are on the same level as actual coaching ability is ridiculous. Those who played for multiple position coaches with varying levels of skill know exactly what I mean. It's no coincidence TCU and Baylor owned us on the field last 5 years even with mediocre recruiting classes.

So who is more important to us improving and winning 8+ games next year...SG or BJM? Without Gilbert taking over for Norvell, we had no shot. At the same time if we let BJM go tomorrow, I'm pretty sure the defense would be just fine with Charlie or Vance filling in coaching LB's. Sometimes the inner dynamics of how football teams operate is like Sanskrit to writers here. P.S.: Win 9 games and the waterboy could sell Texas to recruits.

+1. Gilbert isn't a miracle worker. He lacks a proven QB to run the offense, the O-line is still iffy and outside of Burt the receivers are still questionable.
It will probably take more than one season to build the type of offense to win 9 or 10 games and compete for the conference title.
The offense in 2017 could be very productive IF someone steps up at QB, the O-line continues to improve and the receivers improve as well.
There are a lot of big IFs. Personally, I don't see Charlie winning 9 or even 8 next year. The team may be improving and still be 2-3 after the first 5 games.
There will be a lot of young guys on both sides of the ball in 2016. I'd look much more closely and critically at the last 7 conference games and how much both sides
of the ball have progressed by the end of the season. If he wins 5 of the last 7, with a win over TCU or BU, it may not make sense to terminate the experiment
without letting it go full term and seeing what he can do in 2017.While I support Charlie, I acknowledge that he screwed the pooch on his offensive staff and
vision his first 2 years in Austin. The really hard decision after the 2016 season will be to decide whether Charlie is a keeper whose early missteps delayed his impact
by a season or whether he's a JAG at Texas and move on in hopes of hiring the next superstar.Unfortunately, next year Charlie may win enough to fan the faith of the
believers while convincing the haters that he's not the guy. In that case, Perrin and Fenves will have some very tough decisions to make.
