Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Arch Manning is...)

Has anyone pointed out that the Lannister question was more about "always pays their debts" rather than how much cash we have piled up?

Texas seems to have a rep that we honor and pay out on agreed on NIL deals, even if we've walked away when the price was too high. Two different things.

Texas doesn't have a bunch of cash piled up.

Jalen Milroe's national rankings

Passer rating: 204.67, 2nd
Pass plays of 50+: 4, T-2nd
Yards per attempt: 11.3, 3rd
Rushing TDs: 8, T-5th
Completion %: 72.9, 7th

Fair enough, but I get the sense he wants to build Texas into a powerhouse like Saban had at Bama, and therefore wouldn't want to skip out after Arch heads to the NFL.
I agree, but things could look different is he achieves the ultimate success and the right opportunity comes along.

I think the angst was caused by the MSU time of possession. In your drive charts I added up approximately 35 minutes and 75 plays. It was similar in a way (at least to me) of that disaster against Rice in 1994. Rice seemed to keep the ball the entire game....while hardly making any yards or scoring many points.

I love Clark, but that's too high of a number. She was certainly central to it.
so I don't watch the WNBA really at all / I tuned in for a few minutes and thought it still looked awful

I would argue that 95% is about exactly where the increased interest came from / even if Angel Reese was a stellar rookie - in an alternate Universe without Clark / those viewers don't even notice - there have been other good rookies before I'm sure.... I don't know their names though.

Excellent write-up. I'm not sure what part was the best: Arch, the overall discussion of the game and the team or Jimmy Stewart. All truly good.

Stewart's movies changed after WW2. His first was A Wonderful Life. Perhaps he simply had matured as he aged or his service in WW2 changed him, and although he still played some comedy, most of his major movies after WW2 were more serious and some rather dark.

Stewart's life off screen was also very complimentary and for Hollywood uncommon. He was married to the same woman for 45 years, actively served in the Air force Reserves, was religious and very patriotic. For me, he not only was one of the best Hollywood actors of all time, but also, he was as well an all-around wonderful man...who lead a Wonderful Life.

Ketch...I hope you write Dame Maggie and Kris Top 10 lists as well. I expect I am not giving you any new ideas....on to the bye week.

Gotta disagree on Blue being the starter. He might have the most talent but until he can hold on to the ball he’s too big of a liability.

Also Kentucky is no doubt a tougher game than A&M. They might not be as talented, but until A&M finds a QB they won’t be much of an issue.
Gotta agree I have big concerns with Blue .... I loved the fact that he never got back in the game after his second fumble....glad the coaches are holding guys accountable!!! Next, maybe sit the offensive linemen that can't wait for the damn snap count!!

I saw Mr. Smith Goes to Washington with my roommate at the old Saturday Morning Fun Club in one of the auditoriums on campus. Loved it.

Does the Saturday Morning Fun Club still exist?

Great write up. Simmons is a jaw dropping talent as a freshman. I am trying to think of a comprable freshman and the name Tony Brackens comes to mind. He was also a defensive end and hailed from Fairfield, Texas. All conference as a freshman.
Texas Tech kickers for this and the next two seasons are rejoicing at our move to the SEC.

There were 100+ sellouts that occurred without her participation.

I realize that, but they do pay what they say they are going to pay. Hence the "pay thier debts"

Not a question about how much money they have.

Well, part of what makes the Lannisters the Lannisters is that they have the most money.

Kris Top 10 has to be done.

I'm on it.

Garrett Gilbert was terrible at SMU year 1 and barely average year 2. Why people think his ability to be a mostly practice squad player sonehow means he was even solid in college is beyond. Hell, Stephen McGee spent 3 seasons in the league on actual rosters.
I don't think that about his college career. We can objectively see he wasn't great in college.

However, I don't hold my nose up at starting in 2 NFL games. Making it to the NFL and then actually starting is incredibly difficult and speaks to his overall potential (that was clearly never met).

I don't believe so.

I will forever say that rushing him back after the torn labrum was an error that he never fully recovered from.

He just labored throwing the football in a way that didn't exist previously.

Quinn's worst problem has been that he just can't stay healthy, and that has hurt him-so this Arch mania is inevitable. When you get hurt every two weeks, it's easy for everyone like our fearless OB owner to get fixated on the shiny new toy.

I really feel for Quinn--it really been unfortunate--but it's a part of the game. He has delivered in all the big moments consistently including a few weeks ago on the road. But everyone's forgetting about him because he's not on the field.

If I'm Sark, I tell Ewers, "Go out and set ou on fire!--and then clobber the rest of the SEC--and show everyone why you're QB1, our leader, and the best player on the team."

Shenandoah is a great film. Since I haven't seen all of Stewart's films I can't say if it is top 10, but just the few great quotes, and stony looks Stewart gives in that movie makes me think it probably deserves to be in there.
  • Charlie Anderson: Do you like her?
  • Lt. Sam: Well, I just said I...
  • Charlie Anderson: No, no. You just said you loved her. There's some difference between lovin' and likin'. When I married Jennie's mother, I-I didn't love her - I liked her... I liked her a lot. I liked Martha for at least three years after we were married and then one day it just dawned on me I loved her. I still do... still do. You see, Sam, when you love a woman without likin' her, the night can be long and cold, and contempt comes up with the sun.

  • Charlie Anderson: [to the engineer, explaining the decision to burn the prison bound train] You run a sad kind of a train, mister. You take people away when they don't want to go and won't bring them back when they're ready.
That is a great movie, and Jimmy Stewart's character as the tough farmer and then worried, angry, grieving father is fantastic. The end of the movie where he is in deep grief but tells what is left of his family that they are going to church anyway, and then Boy comes through the church door on his crutch during the hymn, that is one of the best endings ever.
