Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Arch Manning is...)

Early in the game is a pretty broad statement. Their opening drive was okay but it took 13 plays to go 47 yards.

We were throwing the ball pretty much at will from the opening snap and only ran the ball 4 times total in the first half (1 of which was the Blue 1 yard TD) so not sure how he can sit there and say his DL easily won the battle early.
Agree but still an overreach by Lebby, IMHO.

Thanks for doing a Jimmy Stewart list. As someone who loves movies and loves the few Jimmy Stewart movies I have seen, I am embarrassed that I haven't seen most on your list. It gives me a good list to watch in the coming months/year.

Question I would've asked for 10 thoughts: If you were the UT Coach, would you start Colin Simmons against OU and moving forward?

Excellent write-up as always. However, nobody can ever convince me that taking the points off the board when you’ve just made it a two possession game against a team struggling to score is the correct game management decision regardless of the play call. Giant underdogs crave momentum and we handed it to them.

@Ketchum

A bet has been made.

Question…knowing that it is just speculation…if Arch came out this year…which he won’t/cant…would he be the first QB picked? The first player picked? Even at this point….

A steak dinner has been bet and we’ve both agreed that your answer will settle it.

"If you believe that Mississippi State's run game wasn't controlled and that Texas was pushed around at an alarming rate, you're just wrong."

Lebby's comments about LOS... 😳

Q. What were the keys to those early defensive stands?

Lebby: I thought we won at the line of scrimmage both sides of the football early in the game. We needed to finish drives and score touchdowns. Some things happened inside of the drives where we had to settle for field goals. To me, that's the difference. There's a story in the game. I felt we had opportunities in the first half if we're not kicking field goals, we have a chance to be up at half.
He covered up multiple sexual assaults so I don't believe a word he says.

Lane is hilarious and love the comradery between the Saban boys.

I have started rooting on the Texans this year in addition to my Cowboys. It has given me a more optimistic outlook in general. One less concern on top of life events to keep up with.

Love this Sunday column. And enjoying this season all the way through.

When you left Shenandoah off the Jimmy Stewart list, it showed you need a break.
Shenandoah is a great film. Since I haven't seen all of Stewart's films I can't say if it is top 10, but just the few great quotes, and stony looks Stewart gives in that movie makes me think it probably deserves to be in there.
  • Charlie Anderson: Do you like her?
  • Lt. Sam: Well, I just said I...
  • Charlie Anderson: No, no. You just said you loved her. There's some difference between lovin' and likin'. When I married Jennie's mother, I-I didn't love her - I liked her... I liked her a lot. I liked Martha for at least three years after we were married and then one day it just dawned on me I loved her. I still do... still do. You see, Sam, when you love a woman without likin' her, the night can be long and cold, and contempt comes up with the sun.

  • Charlie Anderson: [to the engineer, explaining the decision to burn the prison bound train] You run a sad kind of a train, mister. You take people away when they don't want to go and won't bring them back when they're ready.

I mean... he's a known liar.

Ever seen “The Flight of the Phoenix” with Jimmy Stewart?

Kristofferson’s appearance at Willie’s 90th birthday concert put a lump in my throat.

a. I didn't quite get to it.

b. I can imagine. Those two have LIVED.

@Ketchum

Nice on Ketch.

Maggie Smith will be missed in my house by everyone.

Obviously the kids love her.

Obviously the wife loves her.

Obviously, I’m fan of all her work, for both the younger and more mature crowd.

Edit: can’t argue too hard with your top 10. Glad you had Rear Window near the top.
Rear window is the bomb.

No way Colin Simmons isn’t getting the majority of the snaps by season’s end. Jimmy Stewart has been in so many great movies I give you credit for even attempting a list. You didn’t mention Shenandoah a really great movie. Btw, I’m actually watching Vertigo right now on on TCM (Kim Novak was hot)

You say what you need to tell yourself to allow yourself to sleep at night.

OK Geoff, here we go. First, I don't like mentioning tranfers in a negative light. Even if it's true. Second, BALLSY but unwarranted in your eval of Arch. Don't tell this unwashed mass of UT fans how good we know he is. Quinn will need support. He won't be 100% whenever he returns. My fear is he won't tell Sark when he's not because of who's standing on the sideline with his helmet on. Sark should really hire a psychologist just for Sark. Why don't we focus on who just pushed our DL back on a lot of plays between the tackles. The score on October, yes October, is 0-0 right now. If there was one thang my team showed me yesterday is Don't Call It In. It's contagious.

Let's just do a "Best of Paul Simon" and rest. When you left Shenandoah off the Jimmy Stewart list, it showed you need a break.

I think the Trey Owens question was more of a “will portal and kill it elsewhere” question than a “Matt cassell” question

It's entirely possible that he will transfer, regardless of what he says at the moment.

Gotta disagree on Blue being the starter. He might have the most talent but until he can hold on to the ball he’s too big of a liability.

Also Kentucky is no doubt a tougher game than A&M. They might not be as talented, but until A&M finds a QB they won’t be much of an issue.

Blue is the best guy. But, you're not wrong about what he needs to do.

A&M is a road game. Kentucky is not.

Arch is the QB Sark has been waiting for at Texas. His love for the deep ball and Arch's elite abilities will drive this offense into another level next year

Hope so! But should we be worried about Arch playing behind a much less experienced O-Line next year?

b. Play the best players. He's one of the best players.

I’m not Ketch, but this is an interesting question.

It really gets at: who will be better in 3 or 4 years.

I think if Arch were in the draft, he would be the 1st QB off the board and it wouldn’t be close.

Who are the top defensive guys in the draft and how do they compare to the likes of Lawrence Taylor, Reggie White, Aaron Donald, JJ Watt and similiar?

It would take someone like that to make me pass up Arch, and I’m not even sure I could pull the trigger then.

The good news for teams is Arch isn’t in the draft this year. But his Left Tackle is.

One of your best Ketch! We need to take time to enjoy this team because we are in the next good old days. Don't wait until they are over to appreciate it. Hook 'Em.

I can't root for the Texans, but I don't mind them winning.

I would bet $100,000 w no odds that Arch is going number 1 IF you can promise me he won’t get hurt in his time here.

No NFL GM is turning down drafting a HEISMAN winning Manning.

I found every Stewart list I could find on the intrnet and watched every film that was in someone's top 10.

Shenandoah was a consensus Top 25, but not top 10.
