Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (FIRE!!!!!!!!)

Love ya, Ketch.

But maybe be a bit more careful to make distinctions between laying out an argument and seeking rhetorical advantage. We begin with one, but we are often pulled into the other without really noticing it.

Tennis. That's what we're talking about during football season. Tennis sucks enough as it is, but damn. WGAF about tennis?

Spell it out then.
I've listed ample evidence.

Perhaps you'd like to list a similar situation where a player of Serena's stature received such a punishment in a final.

Just one.

Perhaps that is because no one else other than Serena ever continued to malign an umpire as long in a final as she did. I have been an avid tennis fan and attended tournaments before you were born and never seen one player stay focused on attacking the umpire over an issue like Serena did. I have seen men players disqualified for verbally attacking the umpire . Nastase was the worst. He would lose his mind.over a line call. Serena’s issue was about her integrity. Not a line call and she would not let it go. It occurred in a final but the result should have been the same if it was a first round match. Do you actually believe that her coach has never coached her from the sidelines in a match and she has never seen the signals? That he just decided in this match to coach from the box for the first time.

The moment he took a game away from her to make it 5-3, she had every reason to lose the plot.

In the history of tennis, nothing like this had really every happened before. McEnroe going full foul mouth in 1987 is not the same thing.
Jeff Tarango at Wimbledon comes to mind.

(Sell) I'm only speaking for myself, but I was always of the opinion that Herman was a risk. I've been banging on that pot for a while.

Herman was 5-3 in Conference his last year at U of H. With losses to Navy, SMU & Memphis. He finished FOURTH in his Division. Yet he struts onto the podium like he has Nick Saban’s resume. Time to deliver, Coach.

I’ve never appreciated Serena’s inability to admit someone was better than her on the days of her defeats and am disgusted by her outburst in throwing out her motherhood as a reason why she would never receive coaching when there is no way an umpire would give a warning or penalty unless it was blatant. The winner didn’t get the credit she deserved because of the absolute lie that Serena made a fool for herself over.

Here’s a clip of her coach admitting 100% that he was coaching so either he or she is lying and he gets no benefit from lying, while she gets the sympathy of all the idiots that want to feel bad for the greatest female tennis player of all time. Poor poor 225 pound Serena.

Check out this thread. btw, nothing you said was wrong but he could have given her a warning before taking away a full game. He clearly has been that lenient in the past.

No you're not right, unless by "her place", you mean in a position subordinate to the agreed-upon rules that govern the game.

He stuck to the principle of the rule, in spite of the fact that he knew he would be called a sexist for doing so, and that he was likely committing career suicide.

He did the right thing, when it was entirely against his self-interest to do so. That's courage.

Reminder - Ketch says he hadn’t seen a single tennis person argue against Serena, I point one out from a current tennis player and he doesn’t respond but continues to post articles that back up his point. I haven’t seen you seen take a stance against a woman on this board ever...do you seriously believe that you are unbiased in these discussions?

If we had not endured the Charlie Strong era prior to Herman taking the reigns we would be much more forgiving in the 2nd year....I'm remaining optimistic about our coaches and players as the season unfolds. Positive thoughts yeild positive results!

Remain Calm and Hook 'Em

You're hard to take serious when you make things up because you have nothing else to lean on.

To be clear, she was given a warning for receiving coaching, which she went nuts about even though she was 100% lying. She then broke her racquet, which is another violation, totally on her. She then proceeds to berate and call the guy a liar and a thief even though he rightfully caught her cheating. The next phase in the process is s game penalty. Each instance doesn’t get a warning. This Djokovic clip is nothing close to Serena. He was taking too much time serving and was correctly docked a serve. He then told the umpire he was out of his mind and that warranted the first phase of the warning. Had he continued like Serena, he more than likely would have received a point and then a game penalty.

Maybe the men get away with more, but at the end of the day, she cheated and got caught, broke a racquet, and then repeatedly called the umpire a liar and a thief when she was the liar all along. I liken her behavior to someone who goes off on a cop because they got a speeding ticket. Never mind that they were speeding, the officer didn’t get the other people that were also speeding.

a. Those things with coaches happen a million times in every match.
b. Her back was turned to her coach when the incident occurred.

The chair umpire just had to make it about him and his job.

was she hit with a game penalty in that match?

Not possible because she foot faulted on a second serve at match point, so the match was over. Had it been at a different point in the match, her behavior absolutely warranted the next phase of the penalty process.

Tom Herman might have 99 problems, but through two games the offensive line ain't one.

And it might actually be better if Hand looked hard at Okafor at guard. 2 games in and the trend seems to be that Rodriguez or Kerstetter are going to be the weak link at RG.

Context matters.

That this was a critical point in a final of a major matters.

Yeah, but that's better than the alternative.;)

That’s fair. I feel like this is similar to an instance where someone breaks a board rule and one of the mods put the person in time out. That person then goes off on you guys stating it’s personal and that you just don’t like them because others get away with so much more.

At the end of the day, the rules were broken and the process was followed so I don’t feel bad for the bad board member or Serena.

4.25 years of dumpster fires is rough.....Since we all know what is coming, an ultimatum that Herman clear out the staff by the regents. What 3 assistants need to go and who do you think would be the top candidates for their replacement.

As a mod, I give free passes for people deserving a free pass if the context allows for it.

Context is everything.

When was the last time a player was hit with a game penalty in a major final? The answer might be as recent as d yesterday, but I can't remember ever seeing it.

Everyone on offense but Hand and possibly Meekins.

I'd have to give some added thought to the replacements. A new OC will want to bring one of his guys if he's worth a damn.

I’m not sure that’s fair because when is the last time a player had a three violation meltdown in a major final where an official was forced to act or ignore?

As far as the mod comment, you guys had a discussion within the past month about people claiming you don’t like them for whatever reason and how you have no idea what they are talking about. My point was that you justly make your decisions without concern to who they are.

It's fair. That you can't answer the question is why it feels unfair.

Maybe it gets Garrett fired and Riley hired?
From the same wishful thinking crowd that were sure Riley would flame out and aggy would be aggy under Jimbo. We are f*cked for a long time. And we better wake up and realize we ain’t who we think we are. Instead of wishing our competitors will falter we better build our own program back up.

I don't see any point in keeping Meekins.

If we have to keep Herman, I'd clean house on that side of the ball other than Hand unless the new OC wants his own OL coach.

Fun stuff (and all too predictable).
