totally agree.Seeing Nicholson 7th on this list seems criminal.
I only cited to show how Hathaway's performance isn't viewed as elite in batman cannon.I read that list and thought it was ridiculous. But, to each their own
You think it's Two-Face that outs Ledger over the top?@Ketchum I also recognize that these lists are often based on some auteur film school analysis, the same thing that might win an Academy Award, recognizing a crazy performance, that doesn't necessarily (and often doesn't) jive with characters I actually enjoy watching. The best example is Phoenix' The Joker. Did he turn in amazing performance? Yes. Do I like watching the movie? No. Do I think he encapsulated the actual character of The Joker? No. Did I enjoy myself while watching it? No. Does it contribute to me feeling moved in any direction or any catharsis for the hero of the film? There is none. Does not compute.
In my opinion, what actually makes Ledger's Joker work so well in The Dark Knight is the character of Two Face in that movie. Their viewpoints pitting against each other make the Joker story something more than just a crazy person being crazy.
I’m less interested in an Oscar-caliber transformation and more interested in an interesting, enjoyable, and captivating character relevant to the story I’m watchingI only cited to show how Hathaway's performance isn't viewed as elite in batman cannon.
What I said is that TwoFace makes that character (Joker) work. Otherwise he’s just a crazy person spewing anarchy. That’s not narratively interesting. But the juxtaposition of TwoFace’s attempts to help Gotham against Joker’s make you think, and make that story really interesting. It’s why Batman does what he does in the endYou think it's Two-Face that outs Ledger over the top?
Man, you just keep fascinating me.
I need a top ten civil war generals list.
I have an extreme obsession with that place. Trip #6 in May.You should listen to Jocko Podcast #323 and 324 on Gettysburg. Good stuff
I don't think that list had anything to do with the Oscars...I’m less interested in an Oscar-caliber transformation and more interested in an interesting, enjoyable, and captivating character relevant to the story I’m watching

Well you said her performance is "elite" and Hathaway's isn't. Just trying to contextualize my perspectiveI don't think that list had anything to do with the Oscars...

Are you saying Georgia is the favorite for Manning? Or someone else besides Texas?Among whom?
Got it. Fair take, but the whispers seem to be he decides before the Fall and thus the season wouldn't matter.Yes, I still believe Texas not shit its pants in the fall and look remotely like the Mickey Mouse sideshow it did last season.
Lots of whispers out there. Almost all of them come with a little confirmation bias attached to them.Got it. Fair take, but the whispers seem to be he decides before the Fall and thus the season wouldn't matter.
It's the last thought in the column.Hey Ketch,
